Messer's almost certainly going to die because of Hayate's actions; Messer's position in the cast is really wierd considering there's ample need for him to get offed (unless Bogue becomes Hayate's running rival, Hayate's going to have to move up the chain, and there's plenty of opportunity for Messer/Hayate/Mirage character development if he does go down the road towards pineapple salads), as well as plenty of foreshadowing (The whole shinigami deal, being affected by Var). Also, we obviously have to get MMJ shenanigans between Hayate and Mirage, and what could possibly bring two people together than sharing wartime experiences and living through the death of a wingmate?

Messer's inevitable death will hopefully be a pretty important turning point in Hayate's development.

I don't see them pulling an SDF and having Hayate "replace" Messer and take on his role after he dies in combat. That being said, if you thought Ranka was anywhere near to winning Altobowl, even in the TV series, you're out of your mind. She spends the last quarter of the series flying around with Brera while Sheryl lives and sleeps with Alto for weeks, and on top of that, Ranka's last full line in the series is, "I won't lose to you."

The Hikaru's reasons for choosing Misa in episode 25 were very different from his reasons in episode 36 which you can figure out if you actually watch and pay attention.This was actually pointed out to me by one of the Macross World translators Yot-chan aka Gubaba and a Minmeifag but those novels were made before the last stretch were even made and therefore is only applicable to the first 25 episodes. And before you say anything else, Kawamori himself did say later on say that by the end Hikaru did fall Misa and chose her because he loved her and Minmei did fall for Hikaru (it should be obvious why-hint it's not the reason you've been championing) in the very same interview were he divulged that Misa and Hikaru have a daughter, and does so everytime he's asked about them. No, they don't. And you have Kawamori affirming again that Hikaru would have chosen Minmay if she loved him. Hikaru was in love with Minmay while he was fond of Misa, it was a choice of convenience, of his career, rather than his heart. Minmay, on the other hand, never once loved him.

Kawamori concluded he couldn't call what she felt for him love, it was more of awe and a escape of her life, but there weren't romantic feelings. Just falling in love with the 'idea of being infatuated." Minmay was always supposed to be like Basara: completely autistic about music (Basara was her heir in all aspects). Any distraction was that: a distraction that wasn't what captured her heart.

Common misconception but the novels end right when the two of them are in the ship over the razed Earth. They don't cover the whole series, only the first part of it. Don't forget, Hikaru essentially chose Misa twice, once because of the reason you stated and then because he'd moved on with Misa and Minmei was no longer the one he wanted. Kawamori's interview was regarding those first 25 episodes and Hikaru's choice in episode 25 ONLY.

Seriously taking into account the development that both Hikaru and Misa received in the last 15 episodes that should have been obvious unless you blatantly ignored it, or are of the belief that people's feelings can't change.

Kawamori has actually stated that at the end of the series Hikaru did love Misa, and Minmei Hikaru, so there actually isn't any room for argument here, in that area. By the end of the series Minmei was no longer the one he loved, Hikaru's final realization was about him realizing that he had already moved on.
