What's your absolute 10/10 anime - and why?
Eureka Seven because it was like the first anime I actively sought out to watch.
My level of casualness is so high, I picked it up and watched the whole thing on Adult Swim as it was airing
Neon genesis Evangelion.
No other anime has this perfect characters.
Master of Martial Hearts.
It's the EoE of anime. No anime even comes close to perfection.
>art is amazing
>soundtrack is amazing
>plot twists are amazing
>emotions are amazing
>story is amazing
But above all, it's the direction and pacing. It's so incredibly sharp. There is no unnecessary scene, no unneccessary line. All the camera angles and lightning are incredible. It's simply perfection. The only anime coming close to what Madoka did on those two aspects is Perfect Blue, and it was my previous favourite.
Someone already beat me to it.
Master of Martial Hearts, I still can't forget it.
I casually watched that during an Anon Streaming Conference and the reaction was glorious.
Everything we believed in was shattered, reestablished as truth, shattered again, another out-of-nowhere connection pulled out as plottwist, shattered.
The entire prior four episodes were building something that couldn't be anticipated. How could this shit haunt me even today.
>tfw the 20th anniversary of the last episode is in under two weeks
Nope. March 27, 1996 was when the last episode originally aired. I'll be starting my 20th anniversary run soon (though, it won't be much different than usual; I watch Eva about once a week or so).
>1996 was 20 fucking years ago
You mustn't run away from the truth Anon.
If it is any consolation, Third Impact was just under three months ago.
geass is still my favorite. It has a fuckton of problems and i dont think critically its that good. But the memories and the amount of insane asspulls are something if never seen since.
Not the same guy but I really think that Arakawa is a genuinely good mangaka. Even if FMA is not the best of her works I think is a pretty solid shonen and everyone that likes manga/anime should give it a try.
That being said, like with many popular things, it tends to have a very retarded and obnoxious fanbase and I genuinely believe that is the only problem it has a series and why so many anons don't like it that much.
I give it a 8.8/10. It isn't a masterpiece but it is good.
K-On! just works for me on every level, I dunno, I seriously doubt I'll ever enjoy something so much again.
Not that guy but one of my favourites. It has silly elements cause of course it's a shounen, but are those really enough to give up on it? Even if you are a big "mature and dark" fan, my favourite arc in the series is pretty grim. I dunno, all I can say is don't give up on the show. Maybe revisit it down the road.
There was a lot of shit in R2 that make it impossible to "objectively" call Code Geass a 10/10, but the show was so fucking subjectively good that you can easily overlook them, even after rewatching.
There is no such thing as a 10/10 anime, just like there is no such thing as a perfect woman, a perfect song, a perfect movie. Perfection is the absolute pinnacle and can not ever be reached. No matter how miniscule a mistake, if only one happens, it is not perfect anymore. Perfectness is an ideal that we all should strife for, elevating everything we do in the process, but that we will likely never reach.
Madoka cops a lot of shit for being too popular and both the tv and movie having a lazy world reset-type ending, but frankly it's more than well deserving.
you're correct that an artform can never truly be perfect, but I don't believe something has to be truly perfect to be a 10/10. However, I don't think anything is objectively a 10/10 either. Something crosses into the 8/10 realm and that last point or 2 is purely how well it resonates with you.
Rose of Versailles. Can't even explain why considering that French Revolution never really interested me in school. I suppose that's just the power of Dezaki direction and animation. It certainly has the best female MC to ever be an any anime at the very least.
I actually didn't really like Oscar. She wasn't particularly interesting to me until the end. Wish there had been more focus on her femininity and all that jazz, rather than her just being this icon of justice for most of the show. My pick for best female main character would be Utena.
Still new to anime but I thought this was flawless.
This show was perfect in every single way, it was without exaggeration life-changing for me.
Call me pleb, call me a faggot, but Mirai Niki was 10/10 for me. I love how autistic the show is for the first 20~ episodes, then once the MC stops being a bitch and starts doing cool shit, it was one of the most pleasing things to watch.
Also gud grills
(except the ones that gets raped a lot)
I've rewatched the show a few times and still enjoyed it, liked some parts better than others in retrospect, so "trusting memories" seems shortsighted.
That said, I'd argue Code Geass as a whole had more virtues than flaws. But it isn't 10/10 since R2 did stumble a lot, admittedly. Yet while there are certainly a lot of over-the-top events, they aren't necessarily all "asspulls" in the first place nor is it "wrong" to find them entertaining either.
Pure objectivity doesn't exist when it comes to entertainment as well as art and media, so all opinions are inherently subjective by default.
