It seems like anyone that wasn't around during a game event can act freely. Riku's 5000 troops didn't seem to be filled with the craziness of the rest of the army, Vrusto and Roppu thought the group was nuts which let Riku make counter plans. Well Riku's 5000 troops weren't supposed to be there, since Rook said it was supposed to be 15000 soldiers in the fort not 20000.

Riku is like a permanently broken character since Rook broke her route at the key moment and otherwise she would have just been by his side for the rest of the story.
