A Char B1 and M3 Lee are hardly at a disadvantage when compared to a StuG as they all have 75s, but the B1 and Lee also have rotating turrets. Armor also hardly seems to matter as I don't recall any Ooarai tanks (except maybe the Porche Tiger) ever deflecting a shot.

Seriously, how did they manage to turn some yokel polka into something so great?
>>
>>134903133
>they all have 75s

They're also retarded huge targets with mobility ranging from barely adequate (M3) to utterly appalling (B1). The B1 also has added disadvantage of being an engineering CF with deplorable ergonomics, no top vision for want of a top hatch and retarded task distribution for the crew.

>the B1 and Lee also have rotating turrets

With peashooters for guns (nb4 P-26).

>Char B1 and M3 Lee are hardly at a disadvantage when compared to a StuG as they all have 75s
Nigga, pls... there's MUCH more than gun caliber.
The StuG III had a high-speed 75mm gun which remained a viable AT weapon all through WW2 (maximum AP capability over 140mm*), while the M3 had a medium speed 75mm gun (in fact, it was a 75mm M2 gun, an even slower predecesor of the Sherman's 75mm M3), which was largely ineffective against late war tanks (maximum AP capability over 70 mm*). The B1 is worse, as it had a LOW SPEED howitzer not intended for AP work (usually only seven APHE rounds were carried by each tank...) for which n AP data is available AFAIK, but which performed as AT weapon actually worse than the "Stummel" (short Pz IV 75mm gun; max. AP capability, 40mm*)

*: 100m@30 deegres, RHS armor

> I don't recall any Ooarai tanks (except maybe the Porche Tiger) ever deflecting a shot.
Lee (ep. 5), 38(t) (ep. 6), Pz IV (ep. 8)...
>>
>>134904672
Obus de rupture Modèle 1910M
40mm /30° at 400m.
Much comparable to the Stummel.
>usually only seven APHE rounds were carried by each tank
The HE shell (Obus explosif Mle1915) had a penetration of 17mm/30°. That's about the same as a Puteaux short 37mm (the FT-17's gun), and good only against light tanks

OMG, you've just dissed what may well be the most beloved side team, MY favorite team and if you have to compare them to a bunch of relative newcomers you've lost :-)

The best way to describe Hippo Team is that they are the reliable executor type. However, their creativity (even with all their historical knowledge giving inspiration) is limited and their ability to independently judge situations is not really that good. Miho understands all this and keeps StuG close by - it is not only because it is for most of the series her best gun.

By weight it's a heavy tank, but it was used alongside even heavier Tigers so from German point of view that's not incorrect. Of course since it was not really a medium tank it failed to meet most of the requirements, such as numbers, cost, ease of maintenance, upgrade possibilities. Of course, reliability was the biggest problem. Which is why >>134914939 is wrong. Didn't really worked as a heavy tank either due to side armor being much thinner than Tiger I.
Not to mention it's firepower/armor was puny compared to IS-2 of the same weight.

She basically sacrifices her own freedom so Miho can be free.
She remains the "perfect heir" to Nizishumi school, even though reading Little Army you can see she doesn't QUITE aprove of the most strict of its teachings, yet she does follow them to be the aforementioned perfect heir. So Miho (who wouldn't be able to do the same) is free to follow her own style.
And when, during the series, Shiho goes full retard and wants to disinherit Mihoi, Maho goes out of her way to speak up to her mother for the very first time to try to get her to see Miho's value. Of course, it backfires on her because Shiho takes said value as "heresy", and Maho is forced by her own "perfect heir" façade to fight against Miho (note her choice of words when she agrees to defeat Miho, then read betwen lines; you can almost hear Maho's heart breaing down as she speaks).
Then in episodes 10 through 12, when Maho fights Migho fair and square, you may notice Maho folows Nizishumi style teachings to the letter, which actually gives Miho a small chance.
Then pic related happens.

But is Maho really doing anything different than if Miho never left? The only part that resembles "being good to Miho" is when she tells Shiho to consider Miho's abilities, but even then she didn't do much. 99% of the time Maho is needlessly cold to Miho.

(Keep in mind I haven't read much of any of the manga or anything, just watched the anime, so if maybe I'm lacking information that does actually redeem her)

That's the point. Trying to explain you what happens in LA, which is basically the core of Maho's motivations.

Maho telling Shiho to consider Miho is actually the first time she openly speaks against her mother's wishes. And she does that for Miho's sake. Bear in mind that for her "perfect heir" façade, openly arguing AGAINST her mother and schoolmaster is a pretty big issue.

As for "being cold to Miho", we learn in the LA finale (>>134922128) that she is putting an act. She is ACTING in the series as if she's cold to Miho because her "role" as the Nizishumi Style "heir" demand her to do so, because of the style "head"'s orders. Her only two conversations with Miho are episodes 5 and 6.

In episode 5 the one being rude and cold is Erika, and Maho can't OPENLY defend her sister - we can plainly see Maho keping a "cold" face, we're led to believe it's against Miho, but LA finale (which was published at the time episode 12 shoudl have aired) lets us know she loved Miho and was likely resented at Erika at that point (remember GuP loves to pull that kind of tricks on the viewer: one word, Anzu)

Episode 6 (where she offers their chopter to Oarai on her own, and snaps at Erika for protesting).Personally, I thinks that her "this is senshado, too" line is she reprimanding Erika for her previous unneeded rudenes against Miho, but taht's only my opinion, unlike the above

Okay, so I get that Maho is just putting on a show for her mother, but is there really much of a difference between her actually felling that way and it being a façade, if she's always "acting"? What I mean is that even if Maho doesn't actually feel the way she acts towards Miho (i.e. cold, distant, etc.), she still isn't much of a sister to her and doesn't even privately encourage her. Instead she seemingly treats Miho as not worth acknowledging for years.

I think her "act" is more present than her true personality and therefore has extended beyond being an act, it doesn't matter if her feelings are genuine or not. Her actions speak for themselves.

>always acting
Maho is "being the perfect heir" so Shiho doesn't feel the need to force Miho to be a "backup heir" in case she (Maho) isn't a good one. That forces her to be PERFECT in Shiho's eyes. Meaning she can not ever act in any way contrary to Shiho's rulings and ideas. So yes, she is always acting. That includes when Erika talks shit about Miho. In Maho's mind, if she goes and defends Miho at that point, Shiho could think: "Maho isn't a perfect heir, better try to have Miho as backup; let's force Miho to follow my style again".

Hey, we all know it was a bad idea that basically backfired on Maho, I'm explaining her motives, not saying she was a genius.

>privately
Remember that Miho basically left house and has no regular contact with Maho (actually it seems even to be frowned upon by their mother). Also mind >>134922128. For her façade to work, Miho must not know she's putting an act (that's why Maho keeps it a secret and "entrust" Miho to Kikuyo).

Also remember that the relationship betwen the sisters is rather bumpy; This is never shown all together at the same time, but parts and pieces of it all are refered to all over the GuP franchise. Miho first held Maho on a pedestal of sorts, then that pedestal broke (the whle "firing at a tank that was rescuing your own comrades" thing), then it was repaired again (this chapter 7 that has been posted), then it broke AGAIN (when MIHO rescued a tank in trouble and was ostracised by her mother's asslickers fo her efforts, and Maho, who had to kee the façade, couldn't openly support her).

TL;DR: There was little pivate communication betwen sisters because basically each of them thought the other was dissappointed with each other. As I said, they aren't social interaction geniuses outside of the tanks, and that's actually canon for both sisters.

Soviets actually wanted to make a tank that would be somewhere in between t-34 and KV to be used as their main tank. That led to projects like T-44 and KV-1s (KV-1 with some of the armor stripped). So that would have been a Panther-class tank. All of those along with SU-85 were made redundant by putting an 85 mm gun on T-34 and were scrapped to not overextend resources.

For the Sherman it was, 17 pounder was too big. And the Americans had already developed the 90mm M3, and so had their own gun of comparable quality and didn't need to license a British one.

>>134938981
He already said about it being used as a gun for a Sherman. Of course tank guns aren't everything, artillery took out most of the tanks I think and 17-pounder was one of the best but that's a different thing. Since a few Fireflies were produced, intense noise and clouds of dust were real problems because they instantly revealed the tank position. If every Sherman carried the same gun, that would have been fine, I think.
>>
>>134939113
yes
>>
>>134939267

Muzzle blast was probably equally bad with 76mm and 90mm when you get down to it, and shooting first was the most important thing for tank on tank anyway.

Yeah, it was cramped in Firefly, but you battle carry one round, and it's going to take longer to figure out fall of shot than it will to reload the gun.

Not to mention the German medium/long 75mm and short/long 88 all would have had equally as bad muzzle blast too.
>>
>>134939573
It was also harder to correct aim after shots, and they would have to move between shots often. All in all, they worked well as support vehicles from behind the front line. 76mm Shermans were better equipped to handle a wider array of targets.

The manga adaptation was fine, it added a couple interesting tidbits and character stuff, but some of the art was pretty iffy.

Anyway, definitely read LA and LA2. Rabu Rabu is just a comedic thing with a bunch of yuri. Ribbon Warrior is cool, but very much its own thing.
>>
>>134941323
>>134941512
There is also a cool manga about training fight with Maginot academy. Unlike super-condensed main series it's 10 chapters about 1 event.
LA is a must because lore.
LA2 - read it if you like Amy from LA1, she is the protagonist. Quality level is the same as LA1.
Ribbon warrior - I'll quote MAL review
>So in this manga two girls ride small 2-crew tank, and the commander/shooter (Shizuku) rubs driver's (Rin) back to steer the tank. But unlike Russian tank commander, her nimble feet are bare. And through this foot-fetish adventure girls get more intimate and strive to win in unofficial light tank competitions for Senshadou rejects.
Now, you've probably already decided if you should read it or not

Yeah, I forgot about Maginot. The one additional thing I'll say about Ribbon Warrior is that it's very self-realized. Sure it's all about yuri implications and plenty of weird fetish undertones, but within that framework it has a pretty damn enjoyable story, and I love the art style.

>>134943410
I can only admit to my lack of knowledge. Best portrayal of Tiger I saw before was team Leopon's, so it looked fine to me. Hey it was actually possible to make wheels look more like Porsche Tiger's by putting "masks" on them. Maybe they should have made it into a Porsche Tiger instead.

>Confirmed.
FTFY.
The fight happened in front of a whole infantry unit. The tank was a confirmed kill. They took the time to stop the AFV, exit it, shake hands with the GIs, crawl all over the tonk, confirm it WAS, indeed, a Tiger, and write an ample after-action report, with withnesses, of the whole thing - including exactly how the round managed to kill the tank. Posterior research confirmed Tiger Is were present in the area, too. The ones saying "unconfirmed" are armchair storians who keep babbling about how "my extensive Wikipedia(*) research shows a 37mm couldn't possibly do that".
(*: OK, I'll be fair. Some of them predate the Interwebs and used paper books for their "extensive research").

That's a VERY confirmed unlikely kill.

Compare and contrast with the allegued Tiger II kill of the one Super Pershing. "We were inside the tank, under attack, we say a tank that totally was a Tiger II, we fired at it, it didn't fire back anymore so we totally killed it, we were under more attack so we moved on; nobody else saw us in that fight", while posterior study showed no Tiger II unit was in the area, yet units of th evisually similar Panther were.

THAT'S what an unconfirmed kill looks like, Anon.

I kind of want to see Ribbon Warrior animated.
>>
>>134950995
But locally, it was true.

That's the POINT.

Also, you mean as opposed to losing his shit and having them all purged in a paranoid fashion, thus crippling the leadership of the Red Army like early on?

If he hadn't had such a large margin of error to work with and the steely resolve of the Russian people to survive, shitting the bed that badly would have been more of a disaster than it was.

I don't think a lot of other countries in World War 2 really could have done that well under so much pressure given that kind of blow. Imagine what losing all the "good" officers would have done to other Allied nations. It wouldn't have done the other side, Germany a lot of good, although at a low level NCOs and infantrymen would have still gotten by on their own anyway. It would have been the operational level that really shafted them.

(Of course, the overall goal was kind of nuts. Obviously. It's like giving a guy a gun and telling him to go shakedown everyone in town in an ever increasing spiral pattern until he gets shot. Then someone comes and arrests you. Unless you shoot yourself first.)

GuP was able to create tension by having tanks get disabled without actually ending the fight. In the case of Ribbon Warrior, it's all or nothing. They either survive and win the fight or get knocked out and lose.

As for the second part, I wonder where else I could find a sensitive lesbian who gets worked up because of the actions of an eccentric and oblivious senior? Putting that dynamic in a tank doesn't make it less generic.

>GuP was able to create tension by having tanks get disabled without actually ending the fight.

You mean that GuP where tanks and crews survive hits by a Mörser Karl?

The battles in RW are from a purely mechanical point way more intense than in the main series.

How long did that last? Was it like this totally awesome back and for battle where they shot at each other a lot but couldn't hit and they were driving all over the place but eventually Saunders won?

They did that for the final battle in GuP. It's cool and all, but seeing that dynamic over and over again is fucking boring.

>>134954839
You are seriously telling me that the lesbian dynamics in RW is not generic. That is not a question, it is a statement.
I'll repeat myself: putting lesbians in a tank does not make it novel. It's still. Just. Lesbians.
>>
>>134954847
Well, it's less than Star Wars where they introduced EU to advertise the several works as part of the main universe. Because for some reason nerds need that official confirmation.

LA and all the other series are just written after the main story was done. And they don't even care that much about continuity and stuff.
>>
>>134954898
He means battles wher loss of ONE tank doesn't mean the loss of the battle (unless flag tank, of course). We have to give him that, because it's a fact.

Now, as opinions,
>The battles in RW are from a purely mechanical point way more intense than in the main series.
How amusing. I find it to be the exact oppossite.
>>
>>134954997
That's the point of a 1vs1.

Yes.

The story was developed by Mizushima and Yoshida.

All the other non-anime entities are based on that story and are more specific author focused than written in an extended universe mindset.

>giant city ships
>light weight, nearly indestructible carbon armor
This show obviously takes place in the future (or alternate universe). That same "carbon finishing" that makes the interiors of the tanks functionally impenetrable could also provide the light weight strength needed to make giant city ships. Point being, it's obviously a magic plot element to make tank combat feasible for high school students, but it's also not the most impossible thing science fiction has ever cooked up.
>>
>>134955033
Excatly. His point (for that part) is that GuP creates tension by means ot it NOT being 1vs1, because in 1vs1 you know the hero is gonna win without losses. He might be right, or he might be wrong, but that's the point he's making. The reasoning behind his point (that RW doesn't have as much tension as GuP) is a different thing, to which I don't quite agree (I said it was a valid argument, not that it was a RIGHT one), because RW uses other storytelling techniques to build tension. You have to give Takaaki Suzuki some credit.

LA is also pretty bad with some pretty "I do it for my sister!" plot.
The question would be what did she exactly except moving to the best senshado school in Japan? The general problem is that there isn't really a story worth telling pre-anime.

Tsuchii is quite okayish in copying Fumikane's artstyle but he sucks at everything else.
>>
>>134955233
The point isn't the tanks surviving the hit, the point is hitting such a small target with a stupid giant ass big artillery like that.

You forget that LA was written by Saitaniya at the same time GuP was being made, and with the endings of each other referencenig mutually - because the intent was to publish a manga prequel referencing the anime from the start.

Now, because I know you're gonna fish that post quoting Saitaniya talking about his ideas for LA when he was writting it, kindly remember said ideas happened when he was developing the manga - that is, when he was discussing it with Mizushima and Yoshida, when both GuP anime and LA manga were still only in rough script form.

I know you're in a personal crusade to make all GuP manga not to be canon for some reason (likely because teh yuri overtones of Rabu Rabu trigger you), but please drop it. MIZUSHIMA considers both of them canon. Deal with it.

Average day in the Star Trek and Star Wars fandom.

There are people who just want to see everything as part of one big universe for some reason. It's like they think they would waste their time if LA for example isn't canon.

Also if Maho's LA background story was that important, they would have included it in the anime. And wouldn't tell such a crucial point in a manga which didn't even chart in the manga sales charts.

It's quite simple.

Selling point, Anon. LA was meant to be published at the same time as the GuP finale. Not "if"s, not "they would"s. It WAS their intention. For people to understand Maho while reading the prequel at the same time the anime was published
Then shit happened.
>>
>>134955607

Crazy!
>>
>>134955657
>didn't even chart in the manga sales charts.
>>134955725
Not samefaging, forgot something.

They didn't think GuP would have the exit it had. The "let's tie in with a prequel manga as hook" was a idea they had beforehand.
>>
>>134955725
That is a little desperate.

>Let's outsource one of the most crucial points in the story to completly different people for a manga that barely sales a few thousand copies at best!

Best idea ever!
>>
I love how that canonfag is pulling out stuff like "Mizushima states the series are canon!" or "It was all planed exactly way before".

Sadly, a simple gimme source would break everything apart.
>>
>>134955785
>Best idea ever!
Yep. As I said, it's what happened, never said it was a GOOD idea.
Also kindly realize you're assuming they'd knew how many copies would LA sell. They thought GuP would be a niche anime and that LA would help it, instead of the oppossite happening.

also
>desperate
you seem a bit desperate in your attempt to steal "canonicity" from a part of teh franchise that's part of the core story and that the franchise owners treat as canon. Please, realize it's a lost battle. It shall keep being "canon" until or unless they make a LA anime - let's hope soon - no matter if you like it or not.

I can give you source of Actas treating GuP stuff as "everything is canon unless we say otherwise" (OVA 7 regarding Anzio battle of the manga). In light oof that, YOU are the one with teh burden of proof of LA *not* bing canon.
So, kindly, Actas statement that LA is no longer to be treated as canon, or let the argument go.
