Not the OP, but 3.0 abandoned all form of narrative reason and provided a pure yet hate-filled concentrated dose of pandering. There is no buildup or actual plausible reason for anything that happens, it is just the effect without the cause.

There is nothing holding back 3.0+1.0, it's story elements are already as dumb as they can be so it won't be jumping any sharks or betraying any sense of realism by doing what OP suggests (or the opposite for that matter).

Even citing how Asuka has less screentime than in NGE proves nothing because of what happened to Rei, the character with the most development and consistent characterization after Shinji (even after 3.0). They just abandoned the character and rewrote it's background to degrade it and provided a strawman in the character's place we all know as Rei Q.

Not at all unlikely, FYI. Four years ago you wouldn't think they'd include a flying battleship or a 14-year long timeskip or "curse of EVA". Cat EVA's. But they did. Bringing back pen-pen in a half-a-second scene as a zombie dog in some lab, if just for shock value, is likely. Maybe it'll be a heart-wrenching story about how Misato did it to keep her companion alive? It could happen, because 3.0 made Rebuild sink that low.

Having that said, there is no reason for them to not do what the OP says. Because even if it ends like the OP suggests, the central loop still hinges on Kaworu's affections for Shinji and vice versa, they're portrayed as fate-bound and destined to meet again, regardless of the outcome.

Don't be like a dumb fujo, accept that there's a distinct possibility that it'll happen and if it does, there is nothing you can say against it except that it's pandering not built on any solid characterization.

Objectively wrong. On every basis from audience response, interpretation as well as direct admission from the writers, what you just wrote there is wrong.

It's also not even close to what Toriyama does. I don't think I misunderstand you at all. What you're saying is inherently self-contradicting. You say they won't sabotage their own marketing or assets, but they did just that with 3.0.

They do have these clear patterns of preferences like we've both pointed out, but no matter how much you may hate it, that pattern includes Asuka and inherently excludes Kaworu, albeit to a minor degree.

They both can and will do it if it suits them, and who's to say it doesn't suit them? To date in Rebuild Asuka is the only non-killed character untinged by failure, why would it stop in 4.0?
Kaworu is dead and they left the door open for the kaworufag fanbase to fanwank to their hearts content, including a grace period of more than three years now and more.

Regardless of outcome between these two, it is predetermined to be pandering garbage.
