Usually the scratches are just light ones, though the last time I bought from them I got one where it looked like someone ran a mechanical pencil over part of the cover, and another one had loose binding. It's just especially disappointing because alter generally does such a fantastic job on the face and posing, which is what I like in a figure. No, I am not in the cabinetry business and no way am I in joinery. My father had a client that had a simple job for us at his home, so we took it. I only helped because he needed someone to help position the glass and do small corrections to the team placing the glass.

As for DIY stuff, it's fairly simple if you know what to do. I don't deal with glass as much as I should, but I find that sourcing custom fit glass panels can be a pain in the ass, especially if you're doing some art-deco stuff. Even worse if you your area doesn't offer glass-related services. Making your own detolf copy is fairly simple though. If you've got the plans, do your research on materials and availability. If you're going for more ambitious, larger designs such as a corner display units or even wall hanging displays, seriously consider the design, feasability, mobility, cost and assembly process.
