Why didn't they just drop some boards if it was too much? This is just like when Easymodo died.
I'm not just scared that the archive might be gone for good. I'm scared that the archive, if it's ever brought back, might have to delete images again. Which is a fate worse than death.
Guess it's just one of them, God knows why they decided to do it for every board.
"The Web server does have some record of the requested URL, but now believes that this URL should be serviced by a different Web server. The 410 error indicates a complete dead-end. The URL is effectively useless, and there is no clue as to an alternative Web server or URL which might be used instead.
If the URL really should be alive, then there is something fundamentally wrong with the setup of the Web server."
It's not over yet.
i have to go to school pleasse im out of time.
THIS ALL COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED IF ONLY DAIZ HAD BOUGHT THE ARCHIVE.
Good riddance. Archive is the tool of the devil. The original charm of 4chan was the fact that all posts vanished and could not be retrieved. Archives basically turned 4chan into a forum.
>can't view opinions on the show/manga I watched/read anymore
Lurk more, newfag.
4chan always had an archive.
Easymodo's owner just couldn't manage to get the first 4chan archive (not that shitty one where you have to vote to get your thread archived) owner to dump his database when that archive went down and so disappointed, Easymodo's owner than created easymodo.
This is what happens when you try to archive too much. Stop archiving /v/ and /vg/
Where were you when Fantano killed the archive?
>Indicates that the resource requested is no longer available and will not be available again. This should be used when a resource has been intentionally removed and the resource should be purged. Upon receiving a 410 status code, the client should not request the resource again in the future. Clients such as search engines should remove the resource from their indices.
Sounds pretty final.
The archive is the only tool we have to keep /v/ from entering the void. if you remove it the place will go under and i can guarantee that we will all take /a/ with us making sure that this place becomes hell on earth where even your thoughts on anime will be derailed.
The old archives rarely ever went down.
Foolz also never went down until it started archiving /v/.
Funny enough some months after Woxxy started archiving /v/, he ended up quitting.
So, who's gonna make the next archive? Get on it.
Fuck off beta. /a/ wrecks /v/'s shit every single time.
Remember that Accel faggot? Not even /v/ was capable of producing such autism.
That shows how low tier you faggots are that you aren't even considered a pest tier.
Where are you going when newmoot kill the site again, anon?
Browsing the archives and pretending I'm a time traveller, imagining what I'd say to the past anons is such a big part of my life. Whatever am I going to do without it?
Which is why it's pointless for the purpose.
Just take some small-resolution jpg with lots of artifacts, preferably a reaction image with a blued background, think up a number from the range 04-05, and pretend it's authentic.
Just make sure that if it's an anime screenshot that the anime was already released at the time.
Now I have to bookmark te threads like a newfag if I want to read something after I wake up, fuck.
I have literally no idea how that shit got there. I never really renamed files I saved from 4chan. It's probably that I accidentally added that shit at some point. Oh well. Can't use this image as "proof" now.
I'll leave in shame.
>there are people who don't give a fitting name for all of their images
I don't get why you guys are so hung up about being unable to be identified as an oldfag. It's super fucking easy when you talk about shows that you've seen airing, like you know someone's a newfag instantly when they say some retarded shit like "Just watched Kyoukai no Kanata!! One of the best animes amirite?"
You are missing the point of why spoonfeeding is discouraged.
You aren't supposed to do things for others that an adult should be able to do for themselves (spoonfeeding is done for babies) When people are lazy, call them out on it. When they can convince you that they actually tried to employ what resources we all have at our disposal, then you help.
Archive is just one of many resources.
But then that would mean other anons being able to identify you.
Honestly I feel that "just finished" threads are among the worst kinds of threads, but for a different reason: I feel that 4chan is not the place to broadcast to the world that you've just finished a series, and very frequently OPs tend to "blog" about a series they just finished. Honestly I'd rather let it be that they start a thread which simply says "what does /a/ think of X?" and leave it at that.
>Don't really want to bother renaming my screenshots
>But if I don't, someone will throw a fit at it
I couldn't be bothered naming files when I saved 200 per day. Now I don't save that many, but starting to name things now would be inconsistent.
I have a bunch of HorribleSubs 480p screenshots just to post them when /a/ has its bloody days.
A few stream screenshots and several images of my screen taken with my phone.
>Saw a thread discussing a show I was watching last night
>Discussion seemed pretty interesting
>"Oh I'll just finish the show tonight and read through the thread tomorrow on the archives"
>Realise my mistake as soon as I wake up
>frequently OPs tend to "blog" about a series they just finished
What the fuck do you people expect. To write a short summary of the series and thats it? People "blogging" their opinions about anime is a good thing, this is what the board is for, you dumb shit, discussing anime.
The biggest loss is the One Page Threads.
I loved them, but they would usually be at a time when I can't come doe to various reasons or sometimes they would start when I'm here but die during the night so I would leave it open in a tab and just look them up when I open the browser next time.
Now, it's kill. Fucking moot.
4chan isn't a blog. And you're missing my point, since blogging and discussion are two separate things. Those threads tend to go like "So I just finished X and I think it was [insert long paragraph about what anon thinks about the series]", as if the anon was writing for a review site.
I thought they're now banned except for Wednesdays?
This happened. Every tom dick and harry wanted to see the archived thread, of course.
Most of my screenshots are HS 480. Damn bullies.
>It's not over yet.
I think it is my friend.
>Indicates that the resource requested is no longer available and will not be available again. This should be used when a resource has been intentionally removed and the resource should be purged. Upon receiving a 410 status code, the client should not request the resource again in the future. Clients such as search engines should remove the resource from their indices. Most use cases do not require clients and search engines to purge the resource, and a "404 Not Found" may be used instead.
It's a way to start a thread, you shit. OP giving an actual opinion allows for some actual discussion, as people can argue for and against his opinion. It's a much better way to start a thread than yet another lazy "X thread!".
The archive was having problems even before that. It was having problems the whole month of September.
So basically he planned to commit suicide from the start and it wasn't a case where he killed himself because he was cornered by police?
>insert long paragraph about what anon thinks about the series
Well what the fuck do you want him to say? That sounds like a discussion post to me. The "I just finished" isn't necessary but I don't see the problem.
Now those "I'm about to watch X" threads I really don't understand.
>"So I just finished X and I think it was [whatever]
And that's wrong because...
They want to talk about something, they share their opinion, and we discuss it together.
How is that any different from a "X is starting in a few minutes. Get in here.", and then people share their opinions in the thread and discuss whatever is airing?
As I said, the problem is as if they treat /a/ as their blog.
I could post some examples, but you know, that's why this thread exists.
Does it even matter?
After the last fuck-up all the images before 2013 were purged from the database.
The thumbnails wouldn't even show up anymore.
Just think about it, everything of value that wasn't saved before 2013 was completely lost, it's already gone, vanished.
Seriously, why even bother with this piece of shit if only the stuff from 2 years ago is archived.
Just let it all burn.
Look, it's a blog if they talk about themselves. It's discussing a series if they talk about the series (no matter how entitled or stupid they may look). Simple as that.
If you don't like them, filter them, but stop spouting bullshit.
They treat /a/ as a way to talk about anime.
You might as well ask to ban all posts where the user states his opinion because he's "blogging".
When people say blogging isnt welcome here they mean the "hey /a/ how was your day" threads that used to be very popular here years ago, not the kind where you state your opinions.
The archives are really gone for good? I'd be pretty sad if that's the case
>When they can convince you that they actually tried to employ what resources we all have at our disposal, then you help.
Some people just don't get that and stick to shitposting forever.
the relevant pictures will eventually resurface
I-Is it true that /a/ and 4chan are gonna die for good soon? I'll miss you guys ;_;
Doesn't this just mean that 4chan and its new owner have less documented proof and connection to federal and national matters it serves a "home" to?
They killed the archive to get more revenue from Sheekyforum. What a marvelous keikaku.
I'm okay with having more screencaps. Then I'll have an excuse to sort them out
Maybe we could have that thing where people vote on threads to have them archived after 404 if the server can't support archiving all of them
>Maybe we could have that thing where people vote on threads to have them archived after 404 if the server can't support archiving all of them
No, that's a shitty idea. Popularity is what turns most other internet communities so fucking backwards. We already have enough retards who think replies equal upvotes.
Look again at that 410. That's it. That's us. That's gone. On it ever every image you post, every post you wrote, every meme you ever made, every autist who ever was, spammed their shitposts. The aggregate of our cum and suffering, thousands of waifu wars, speculah, and general threads, every oldfag and newfag, every troll and baka, every scanlator and fansubber, every rornery valentines, every moefag and yurifag, every tripfriend and anonymous, every post and image in the history of our board archived there-on those three characters, 410.
Fuck you. It's going to come back The data will be restored The archives will be back soon.
it can't end like this.
>one day, a few years from now, you'll turn on your computer
>you'll start up your browser, and without even putting much thought into it, you'll just type "b", like always
>the browser's autofill will immediately turn that into /a/'s url, and you'll hit enter
>only to be greeted with a 401 error
It will happen someday.
>before archieve, we used to screen cap things that are worth saving
>since archive creation, we got lazy
>archive is dead and and our historical maymays and GETS can no longer be recovered
We took it for granted. Now it's ogre.
Let's say it comes back up.
What's the first thing you're going to do?
Look at my own posts to lurk the threads where I've been posting in the last week.
everything dies sooner or later
the boards will split up, some will end up on other chans, some will go back to using regular forums, but many will also leave for good.
the crowd that makes up the culture of each board could never reform
4chan is already different from what it was years ago. I'm just saying it probably won't just disappear like the archives, we'll probably get a big announcement of "shits dead" before it dies one last time.
>not automatically just typing "a" and getting /a/ as the first result in your history.
>actually needing to type in the URL
What is, 1998? You're all fucking retarded.
What if it's just a big ruse?
It's too early to worry, right?
>Where? There's no other place like this one.
/a/ is considered good due to its community. The people who post here wouldn't suddenly disappear if the site died, they would just need to gather in a new anonymous board.
The owner is either on vacation, in jail, or dead given that he hasn't responded to any of the complaints he's been getting.
If it's either of the latter two good luck getting any of that shit. I think he has the only copy of the archive for many boards right now.
It's for when I want to go to main page but aren't in any thread at the moment. I constantly have 50+ tabs open.
More like you're insecure retard who has to make assumptions or otherwise will be unable to "win". I never said I type the url.
>Typing 4 doesn't take me straight to /a/ and why would I want to visit any other boards except /fgg/?
Well that's your own fault, it should take you to your most browsed board.
>every post you've made
>every mention of you
>every argument you've created
>every butthurt anon you've made angry
>every person you've helped through the years of being a shitty tripfag
>every memory you've made on here
All around me are familiar faces...
Why would you even close your tabs if you are going to open them anyway.
>All the Sora no Woto archived speculah/livewatch threads are gone
>All the Madoka archived speculah/livewatch threads are gone
The guy running it isn't sure. People here speculate it could be because of archiving /v/, though if I recall correctly, a different set of people and tech archive that, it's just that it's hosted on ArchiveMoe.
> The requested resource is no longer available at the server and no forwarding address is known. This condition is expected to be considered permanent. Clients with link editing capabilities SHOULD delete references to the Request-URI after user approval. If the server does not know, or has no facility to determine, whether or not the condition is permanent, the status code 404 (Not Found) SHOULD be used instead. This response is cacheable unless indicated otherwise.
>The 410 response is primarily intended to assist the task of web maintenance by notifying the recipient that the resource is intentionally unavailable and that the server owners desire that remote links to that resource be removed. Such an event is common for limited-time, promotional services and for resources belonging to individuals no longer working at the server's site. It is not necessary to mark all permanently unavailable resources as "gone" or to keep the mark for any length of time -- that is left to the discretion of the server owner.
I mean, I don't really care because I never use the archives, but whatever.
I have my memories instead
>We don't have an ETA on when a fix for our search issue will be provided, but it will be back up when its done.
Why is everyone on panic mode? they're not gone, they're working on the fix.
Sometimes when I pick something too late for threads I went there to see the episode's speculation and got an illusion that I watched it with everyone else.
I think now we have to stay alone and think for ourselves.
I don't understand, every time you spoke about an anime it was to say things like 'boring' or 'bad writing'. Did you really think that your worthless opinions would been kept anywhere for ever?
Ghost has been shit ever since that one time some asshat managed to get through the crashing and post a link to ghost while posting was still down. Almost as long as there's been a ghost.
While this is a bad sign, a website going 410 doesn't 100% mean it's gone for good. In fact, I think this sin't even the first time it went down like that. I think the last time the archive had problems it also had 410 errors on occasion. I also remember going to a website which 410'd but some time after it was back up.
Also, there's a possibility that the reason it 410'd is precisely because they're fixing it and they're doing some maintenance work.
>Can now shitpost about Saitama and Demonbane all I want on Powerlevel Threads
Don't worry, /a/. I have been keeping an archive of any interesting threads for a year and a half.
My Arma group spontaneously died after a session recently due to the administration deciding to move on. Before the end of the day we had a new one established with teamspeak, a server and more players than the previous one. I'm sure that all of fucking 4chan could find a solution.
LIKE TEARS IN THE RAIN
First moot died, now the archive.
I hope it comes back, i have hundred of things bookmarket from there, also a the live translation threads are gone and sad panda threads.
First the creator, then the main archive, make a guess Anon
I'm not sure if I want
>google for "https://data.archive.moe/board/a/image/"
>try not to cry
>cry a lot
Wait, people actually used the archives?
