Does anyone else think the "Curse of Eva" is the dumbest plot device ever?
Well for the reasons you posted, I'll have to agree.
It'd be much more amusing to have Shinji trying to cope with the fact that everyone grew up except him.
Kind of a metaphor for arrested development.
But I guess Anno is done with metaphors and prefers whoring the franchise out until it resembles Misato's college years.
I don't. Curse of Eva refers to the franchise. Characters are not allowed to grow up physically or mentally because if they grow up they won't be the same characters anymore and the fans are too attached to those old characters.
>It'd be much more amusing to have Shinji trying to cope with the fact that everyone grew up except him.
This would have been much more acceptable since it would have demonstrated that they were actually committed to the idea of a timeskip for the sake of the plot instead of pussy footing around it by not taking any risks with the most merchandisable characters.
Because in all fairness to NGE, it had some depth to it. Significantly more than most anime, anyway. It also had a lot of imagery for imagery's sake, and people confuse the two.
It's also once again an example of Anno not following Ikuhara's solid advice of blowing up the escapism, by showing that people eventually have to settle down, live normal lives and grow old.
I was kind of joking with the Patlabor comparison before, but this is actually what the second movie did. What little we saw of the original cast focused on them trying to redefine themselves as people and find a place in the world beyond 'those cooky cops who pilot robots', since you can't be that forever.
>Does anyone else think the "Curse of Eva" is the dumbest plot device ever?
I think a lot of people weren't getting the subtext of what Anno was saying about the fanbase who can't move on from the show, who "need" the characters to be perpetually 14 forever, so they hot glue figurines.
If you hate the "Curse of the Eva", then good, that means Tomino hates "you".
>I will criticise these people and pull the wool for their eyes by unironically giving them exactly what they want.
>Now put more Dorito packages in the background. Daddy needs a new car.
That's why Anno is the master.
It's funny really.
No matter how shitty everyone thinks it is or how angry they are at the stupid plotlines and developments, so long as the premise of "Shinji, Asuka and Rei in robots" is met, Anno can do whatever he wants and everyone will continue to watch it while talking about how stupid it is.
In order to truly break the Curse of Eva, Anno would have to perform the ultimate bait and switch and completely kill the initial premise. Cutting the root of the Eva tree.
I'm the guy that says that Anno stopped caring about the message of EVA a long time ago and would rather spend his days hanging out with daddy Miyazaki and watching the dollars roll in.
Of course not, it's genius.
Think about it, not a single one of the main cast (excluding Misato but who gives a fuck about her) actually changed physically.
The genius kicker from Anno is that everyone still moved on with their lives in one way or another, yet everyone in the main cast still looks the same.
Asuka looks the same yet is more of a bitch.
Rei is your same stoic calm girl you know but she's even more wrong.
Kaworu is still the same but he gets blown up.
Misato became an ugly hag who took more command and seems to be a bitch.
Not a single person with any of those characters as waifu would have liked the change.
That's the curse of the eva.
No one grew up.
Just like the audience.
They changed, but they didn't really changed.
Fun fact, the 3.0 trailer came out 14 years after the original anime came out.
It's your own fault for having shit taste in doujinshi.
Here's some motivation to try harder.
You know, the best thing about Saigado is his proportions. He uses the same body for every character and he doesn't properly size their heads to match, so they all just look like the same woman with a tiny head placed on top. It's great.
his rei one sucked compared to the asuka one ;__;
You know, the best thing about Mogudan is his proportions. He uses the same body for every character and he doesn't properly size their heads to match, so they all just look like the same woman with a tiny head placed on top. It's great.
Fuck off, faggot. The only good Eva doujins are Kuro Tengu
Aww yea, love me some nervs longest day
Nobody wants them to age outside of the characters we know them to be. You think you do, but you don't.
So no, I'm glad they found a way to keep the characters in their classic designs.
>by showing that people eventually have to settle down, live normal lives and grow old.
Who the fuck wants to see that? I don't read manga or watch anime to be constrained by the shitty aspects of real life. Get a grip.
>people eventually have to settle down, live normal lives and grow old.
Honestly I for one kind of enjoyed how Asukas way of talking slightly changed to reflect her being older. Instead of just calling shinji an idiot all the time she called him a brat. Neat but still kind of a stupid plot device.
