This show started so strong, how did they let it become such a borefest like this?
>>
>>122851167
I stopped watching the first episode after 10 minutes
>>
I wish it was an episodic moral grey zone series, like the first episode and Death Billiards showed.

Too much focus on Decim development.
>>
>>122851167
too intellectual for you
>>
>>122851346
Keep that shit out of /a/.
>>
>>122851167
since when it wasn't a borefest?

Death Billiards is the only good thing about it.
>>
>>122851268

This exactly.
The OP is still great, though.

Wait.
people really think Death parade is boring?

Is this a real feeling?

Nope.

Episode 11 somehow made figure-skating not boring. I may be biased because of the piano though.

Though how Decim manages to play piano through threads is a mystery.

The first episodes were really good

Boring is an understatement; it's total garbage.

When you have a bottle of milk main character, it's hard to get emotionally invested.

>>

You guys have shit taste, this show is amazing.
>>
>>122851167
I missed the thread yesterday. Are there still offboarders who only watch mature anime for mature people clinging to the idea that the writer is good, the characters are well developed and the plot isn't a poorly delivered mess of overacting at this point?
>>
>>122851600
People outside of /a/ like it, so it's shit.
>>
>>122851692
By a puppet
>>
>>122851937
>mature anime for mature people

I like how this phrase has gone from a defense of liking kids stuff to a way to cry about anything that isn't as light as Precure.
>>
>>122851938
Hey, to be fair, there are people that get mad if a show is liked by too many people on /a/ too.
>>
Episode 9 though
>>
>>122851268
This, the mysteriousness of it all being torn down is a huge disappointment.
>>
>>122851937
I really hate that part of the fanbase but I'm still enjoying it. There were a lot of retards in the lives who were two dumb to understand the episode though.
>>
>>122851991
I like dark and heavy stuff, too. Jin-Roh is one of my favorite movies ever.

The writing in Death Parade is just bad, and the people that were defending it as a great show were of the "the only good anime is DEEP and INTELLECTUAL anime" crowd.
>>
I kinda wanted the cast subplot and relationship not to be so serious, like, they do all that sad judgement thing but treat that as just their jobs and enjoy having fun whenever not doing it, like shown in the OP.
>>
>>122852093
>the people that were defending it as a great show were of the "the only good anime is DEEP and INTELLECTUAL anime" crowd.
I'm very impressed by your mind-reading abilities.
>>
>>122852168
>I'm very impressed by your mind-reading abilities.
Guess how I know you don't actually lurk threads on /a/?
>>
I wouldn't say it's garbage but it feels like it's missing something. The ambiguity and mystery that was in the original OVA is nowhere to be seen here. They really would've been better off making this an episodic type anime instead of this overarching plot which really isn't that good.
>>
>>122852057
I find they still haven't explained enough for my tastes. I need more about the afterlife world and system.

That's probably part of what kept me watching. Waiting for more bits of the afterlife revealed.
>>
>>122852093
The way they deliver plot is way better than anything you usually get in anime tho. They combine episodic part with mainline and use somewhat creative roundabout ways to tell stories.
I wouldn't really call Death Parade deep show or something, but I don't really understand problems with its writing
>>
>>122852407
>The way they deliver plot is way better than anything you usually get in anime tho.
You're making this statement based on that 10 of 12 shows you watch a year, right?
>>
>>122851268
Funny, when the show first came out people were saying they wished they would go into the bar and Decim and all of the characters and if they do episodic stuff, then it'll be shit. Oh how the opinion seems to have shifted.
>>
>>122852466
Your statement is illogical. It would make more sense to assume I watch crapload of various shows
>>
>>122852266
I feel like the overarching plot is great without being too overblown and that the sense of mystery and ambiguity is still there even if they've answered lots of questions we've been asking ourselves since the OVA aired.
>>
>>122852466
If you watch much more than 10 to 12 shows, you have pleb taste. Unless you think it's mostly shit, in which case you're just a masochist.
>>
>>122852407
>>122852466
It does at least attempt some show not tell exposition, as confused retards in the last threads who are used to being spoonfed plot clearly showed
>>
>>122852581
>Your statement is illogical.
Nah, people with low powerlevels are easy to spot from a mile away.

>>122852606
>If you watch much more than 10 to 12 shows, you have pleb taste.
And there it is.
>>
>>122851804
How does that make the show bad though? Only Decim is like that. You have Nona, Ginti, and the main girl to get invested in.
>>
>>122851990
Using threads and a puppet wouldn't be enough to play a piano.
>>
>>122851770
episodes 8 and 9 were really good, too.

It got a bit boring in the middle, but I'm still enjoying it a lot overall.

>>122852266
>They really would've been better off making this an episodic type anime instead of this overarching plot which really isn't that good.
Yeah, I agree. But only if it was more like episodes 1/2 or 8/9 instead of how it was in the middle of the anime.

>>122852287
>I find they still haven't explained enough for my tastes

It probably won't be and that's a good thing. This sort of stuff gets completely boring once it's explained.

For example, they could exploit the fact that a human can stay there for a while on harder judgments. If there was a difficult case where you wanna send both people (A and B) into the void, you send A to the void first and leave B there, then you judge the person B with person C, then send B to the void afterwards. Kinda like what happened in episode 10.
>>
Ginti did NOTHING wrong.

Prove me wrong.
>>
>>122852076
>There were a lot of retards in the lives who were two dumb to understand the episode though.
what is there not to understand?
>>
>>122852643
>It does at least attempt some show not tell exposition
No.
>Cop says "I need them to commit the crime so I can properly judge them"
>Onna still needs to spell it out "Decim can't you see? You're doing the same thing he is!"
The show is as bad with exposition as your average LN trash.
>>
>>122852646
>liking more than a handful of shows each season

Boy of the year.
>>
It's great, but not amazing. The plot with Decim is a little lackluster in terms of characterization, but some of those stand alone episodes were fantastic, like episode three. Plus, the music and atmosphere really appeal to me.

Also, the ice skating scene last episode was beautiful.
>>
>>122852887
Your little example doesn't disprove what he said though.
>>
She happened.
>>
>>122852880
They all got confused by how Ginti judged Mayu and why he then voided her at the last minute.

>>122852887
I said some, not everything is done well. It's an okay show, probably 6.5/10.
>>
>>122852946
Yes, I can watch an anime or read a manga of pretty much any genre if it's well executed.

>>122852998
Really? He claimed the show does exposition well in that it shows the viewer things instead of spelling them out and bashing you over the head with it. I cited the penultimate moment when Onna breaks down and yells out to Decim that what he's doing is wrong, and despite the scene making it obvious that there's a direct parallel between Decim's methods and the detectives, they writer still felt the need to insert that dialog. Yes, what I said directly disproves his claim.
>>
>>122851167
The first few episodes were great. The meta episodes were boring as shit. The comedy episode felt way too out of place. Episode 9 got way too fucking edgy. Dropped it then.
Disappointment of the Season.
>>
>>122852887
That was half the point of Onna's character though. If they designed Decim to figure this stuff out on his own it would be a different story.
>>
>>122853087
>They all got confused by how Ginti judged Mayu and why he then voided her at the last minute.
Seriously? Who did? That wasn't even subtle tbh.
>>
>>122853200
People in some of the lives. They actually believed his bullshit about bringing back a soul being possible, then a bunch of people argued saying Mayu had chosen to sacrifice someone else, even though she hadn't.
Then others didn't get why she was voided even though it was pretty fucking clear.
>>
>>122853172
Then the writing still fails because we as the viewer already see it clear as day before she points it out. We should have been having the revelation along with Decim for impact. We should sit through it once with the cop literally yelling it out followed by Onna yelling it again. That's just over dramatic. And yet there are still people who talked about how moving it was. Being heavy or dark doesn't inherently make something good when the quality of the writing doesn't support it.
>>
That op though.
>>
>>122853287
That's pretty dumb indeed
>>
>>122853290
>the viewer already see it clear as day before she points it out
Are you sure? We have people who don't quite understand Onna's suicide even through she explained it in such a simple way
>>
>>122853118
>despite the scene making it obvious that there's a direct parallel between Decim's methods and the detectives
It wasn't obvious at all.
It was conveyed by the Detective saying he liked the concept of arbiters and they he would call himself that and by Onna's litte rant at the end.
But just because a concept like that wasn't conveyed without words this one time doesn't mean the show doesn't do "show not tell".
Plenty of the flashbacks are efficent in telling the guests' stories with little to no dialogue, tons of clues about how the characters are feeling or what they are thinking are told through their expressions or body language. The show almost never uses internal monologues.
So yeah, you'd need more than that to disprove anything.
>>
So no DDR huh?
>>
>>122853457
>We have people who don't quite understand Onna's suicide
Guilty as charged. That "other people are strangers, they're not me; I didn't realize that. I thought I'm really nothing." The thought chain was confusing as shit.
>>
>>122853679
Nona OVA with her playing various games(including DDR) with Oculus when?
>>
>>122853515
>It wasn't obvious at all.
It was pretty, obvious, come on... I mean, just their facial expressions gave it away;

I do agree with you, though, for the most part, the exposition is not that retarded. Episode 11's ending is a good example.
>>
>>122853741
Depression clearly. She said her injury didn't affect her (apathy) and she felt emotionally disconnected from people.
Both are common symptoms of depression.
>>
>>122853741
Spend 10+ years of your life dedicated to something, then sustain an injury that makes it impossible to do that at all.

The thing she was and wanted to be no longer existed. She was basically nothing.

Athletes who have that happen to them tend to commit suicide. Artists too. I'm sure more Alzheimer patients would do it if they could remember they wanted to kill themselves.
>>
This show is a 7/10 so far, if the ending is great it could easily become an 8/10.
Definitely AOTS.
>>
>>122853457
>Are you sure?
Non mentally retarded viewers.

>>122853515
>It wasn't obvious at all.
You're kidding. Onna has a problem with how he literally forces them to act out while playing his games, and the cop literally yells "THEY NEED TO COMMIT THE CRIME ALL THE WAY THROUGH SO I CAN PROPERLY JUDGE THEM!!"

You have to be retarded not to get that. Seriously, did you even take high school level literature?
>>
>>122853999
Hindsight is 20/20.
>>
>>122853999
>You have to be retarded not to get that. Seriously, did you even take high school level literature?
I think that's more an issue of people not paying attention/expecting to be spon-fed everything than people being dumb. I'd probably wouldn't have got it either if I just turned my brain completely off when I watched it.

they're probably the same people who think SAO is amazing

It was clear as day while it was happening if you were paying attention.

Why do they post here? Why do they watch so few anime, then come here to post about why anime is shit for the most part when they can't follow such a simple plot?

>>
>>122853999
I didn't see that parallel at all. Mostly because the cop was crazy as hell, and Decim is Decim, and both of their judgment methods have independent origins.

If I was thinking about anything, it was that the detective's justification was absurd. Not that he was like Decim.

An afterlife arbiter and some vengeance detective spying on crimes aren't really under the same conditions. I think I'd automatically analyze them separately.
>>
>>122854617
you should watch episodes 8 and 9 at least, anon. They were pretty good.

>>122854486
Not sure if you're baiting or not, but decim making the game as extreme as possible to see how dark people get is essentially the same as the detective waiting for people to commit crimes.
>>
>>122854698
I've got that screencap buried somewhere, can't find it though. But yeah, it was great.

>>122854710
>An afterlife arbiter and some vengeance detective spying on crimes aren't really under the same conditions. I think I'd automatically analyze them separately.
Good, looking at a story with a narrow view is definitely how you want to approach things. You're sure to understand what's going on.

>>122854845
>episodes 8 and 9
>9
>good
>>
>>122854845
Nah. I think they're legitimately different. Decim's alleged problem is that he creates the evil in people with the situation, so he's not really "finding" it and the judgment method is flawed.

The detective can be criticized in plenty of ways. But he doesn't do anything to create evil in his victims.
>>
I think it's because we know too much. We shouldn't know how the void is, we shouldn't know who was voided, we shouldn't know what Decim is and so on
>>
>>122855047
Episode 9 was better than 4-7 at least. Don't you agree?

Not really the judgement things were mostly just about morals, but now there is shit like the meaning of human life and "judgment must be passed hand in hand with the human and with life and death".

>also, why the fuck didn't you drop it yet if you hated it since the beginning?
Death Billiards was ok so I hoped it got better. Now I don't want to drop it for the last episodes.
Also nice ad hominem argument: Ask people with a negative opinion why they even watch it, so only people with (your) positive opinion will discuss it.
