Nene-san is the fluffiest!
I want to fondle her hair. I hope her hair stays like that forever!
Its scary I knew this was Kimagure Orange Road just from the color of the thumbnail and the overuse of spats.
Its the motherfucking 1980's post the best OP/ED/Song from his era
Something like this
Isn't Kenshiro too OP? He's basically postnuclear Jesus, starring Bruce Lee. And that's not even counting that Toki is pretty much Jesus too.
Whoa, that's like, that anime which the director wrote based on his Dungeons and Dragons campaign on the island of Rhodes, right? Tubular! Although silly Japanese, writing Rhodes as Lodoss.
Why did she attack her? Is Kamille on her period?
Man, Gunbuster was so good. Did you hear about Gainax's next project? It's going to start actual black people! They're so progressive!

Speaking of KoR....This song/vid is fucking awesome. Those synthesizers...Anyway apparently the guy who sang this OP went on to voice Shishio in RK.
But you already did.
I always liked the style and unique look of California Crisis. And how it managed to make the countryside and small towns look like Southern California rather than Japan. Too bad it has such a shit ending.
Honestly, I couldn't say. I enjoyed the style and designs of the movies but haven't bothered with the manga. /m/ recommends it, but they recommend anything that has a robot in it.
It's quite obvious once you open the image what she's doing. But he's right that the thumbnail does look like she's preggers.
That synth, holy fuck so 80's
>/m/ recommends it, but they recommend anything that has a robot in it
Nah, they usually only recommend stuff that is good. But I think that's because all the shitty 80s mecha has been rightfully forgotten.
I don't recall Ideon ever being recommended that often, but then again I never catch the threads.
I don't particularly care for Tomino that much, but I will say that Xabungle is pretty good and probably the best thing he did the 80s.
Ideon was mostly paraded out as a counterargument to Eva's popularity since Anno was such a big fan of it and you can see a lot of designs in Eva adapted from Ideon. But like I said, it's not very good, it's not very smart and it's not even very Tomino.

>Meet a girl in an arcade
>She's an alien warrior who wants to kill me
>I kick her ass in videogames
>I follow her when she rages
>We knife fight
>I win, because I'm a genius
>Bone and get married, then use our baby as a psychological weapon in the same episode
>Maximillian Motherfucking Jenius
There are people older than 35 posting on /a/.
Deal with it.
Too much, way too much pandering, way too much tits, even the fucking QUALITY has changed, what before was QUALITY is now quality.
>inb4 old fuck
I'm 19 years old, even I can realize this is bullshit.
It's more of a simple heist gone wrong movie but with Kenichi Sonoda's characters. This was the precursor to Sonoda's much longer-lasting and better known work, Gunsmith Cats.
Just started watching cream lemon, even the porn was better in the 80's
I have been watching nothing but 70s, 80s, and 90s anime after watching exclusively post 2000 anime for the past 4 years.
What was I doing with my life, seriously. I of course realize everything I am watching represents the stuff that was good enough to still be talked about however many decades later, but still. It is all so good and so fun. It is like discovering anime all over again.
Still my favorite 80's OP.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AjJt58geu9U
They're worth a one time watch but they're not as well executed as the original.
I know for a fact thats untrue, you can buy do it yourself animation cels online, and there is still a forgery market (I collect cels)
OVA's of yesteryear compete with what we see today easily, and i'd say with cels, real paint, film grain and an 80's style, makes for a far better visual experience
I was going to make a hand pun but I cant think of a good one
vampire hunter d, back before being a noble half vampire shrouded in darkness carrying a giant sword was faggy
A LOT of the old OVA probably don't exist anymore. Japan has a poor record of keeping materials in good condition.
Iczer-3 is alright, Iczer-3's voice is kinda shit but it then grows on ya, especially since she's adorable.
Iczelion is badass but
you ought to; it's as if a bunch of japanese animators whose only concept of the american west coast comes from whatever pop culture they could snag decided to make an anime set in that area.
Yeah, characters in he 80's were just right.
In contrast, why were ones from the 90's so fucking ugly?
Imagine this manga animated in 80's standards.
I think I'll be fine as long as there's no Superman reset ending. I hate that shit.
Also, am I the only one who got a little bit angry at the obvious expies from old Toho monster flicks getting repeatedly blown the fuck out?
The problem is, Japanese animators back then were much more open to outside influences and pop culture from all over the world. Now, the anime industry has become so insular. The only people who take the time to actually make it are the ones who have zero interests outside of it so they just make anime based on their tastes. The industry needs to look outward and open themselves up to more interests than just anime or they'll just continue to stagnate. There are gems and exceptions now. But those are becoming more and more rare.
That's WHY it's more expensive and nobody wants to use it. Because first of all it takes more working hours to complete in general but now that it's not the standard and considered a relic of the past, it's become more of a specialty or artisan skill and people also expect to get paid more for doing it.
I guess there's sweatshops but come on, think of the quality.
Yes, in terms of animation it was woefully mistreated.
And in terms of the manga, Sonoda really bent it over backwards to ruin it in the end because he was tired of writing it.
Sure those were ugly, but the 90's did have the best character designs for a show of all time
Seriously name a better one, all the girls are GOAT
>not liking based 90s
80s had delicious designs, but fuck me if the 90s super expresiveness wasn't good shit too.
>I think I'll be fine as long as there's no Superman reset ending. I hate that shit.
Don't worry, the sequels are conclusive enough, all things considered
except again for Iczelion, although if you think about it, it has a sort of Dai-Guard like ending so whatever.
>Also, am I the only one who got a little bit angry at the obvious expies from old Toho monster flicks getting repeatedly blown the fuck out?
I hear that argument all the time from digital paint apologists, but not a single iota of proof has been put before me
No ghibli minimalism staying like ghibli minimalism doesn't count
>there will never be an anime adaptation of Dorohedoro by Madhouse, directed by Yoshiaki Kawajiri with music by 54 Nude Honeys and Buffalo Daughter
80s had such attractive girls especially Cat's Eye and City Hunter
I remember my cousin and I would rent random anime movies and OVAs from Blockbuster when we were kids without any idea as to what we were getting into. Project A-ko was one of them.
>you will never again get your parents to rent you a cartoon movie only to be met with glorious anime tits and violence
I wonder what the ratio of hot but also dependable female leads in OVA's were in the 80's and 90's.
She truly would've been perfect for breeding. Too bad the Paranoids never morphed into dicks to fuck the Solnoids.
dodge+burn requires less talent than actual shading, so it's cheaper
vectoring is also cheap.
and that was also recorded on film, not made in digital, which dulls the shiny
I use to be like those in this thread thinking that 80's anime style>all others and while I do indeed have a soft spot for it, I'm really liking the way characters look now.
I kinda agree, a lot of shows have really poor animation and really muddy colors. It's disappointing when there's OPs like this
And then the actual show turns out to be a complete QUALITY fest with reused animation and five-minute stills of characters staring at each other.
Because people are rating the 00's WAYYY too high
Here is what the 2000's style looks like with a bigger budget
Eventually this late 00's morphed into early 10's and now we are morphing into what'll be late 10's
Also, no noses.
I fucking hate the lack of noses in modern anime. Not asking for a full detailed nose or anything, but just slapping in a dot and calling it a day makes characters look like featureless aliens to me.
>and it's not even very Tomino.
Nigga you crazy
And Ideon has a slow as fuck start, doesn't really get that interesting until like 15 episodes in, but Be Invoked makes watching it entirely worth it.
Everyone always talks about how shit this is.
Is it shit in a "So bad it's worth watching for the experience" bad or is it "So fucking god awful it's a complete waste of time" bad?
Yeah, the pacing is Tomino. Action packed start; dull, uninteresting middle and... well, the climax of the TV show was a mess, but you are right that Be Invoked was a massive improvement on the whole thing. I'm still not sure the time investment was worth it, but I guess it's a classic the way Mark Twain described: "A classic a book that everyone wants to have read, but no one wants to actually read."
2000-2004 was a fucking dark age
And not just because everyone was still trying to make the next Evangelion
Sure sure we got Texhnolyze and other ABe shit and a handful of the first great LN adaptations but digital anime age didn't really start booming until Eureka Seven and GitS SAC
I marathoned it with a friend so that was interesting. It's a good way to get through shows that might take you forever otherwise
We're going to marathon SEED and SEED Destiny soon because we hate ourselves apparently. Send help.
It took me a month to power through Ideon because I'd have to stop and go on /a/ just to find something stupider than the characters.
I deeply pity you for trying to marathon SEED. Then you want to do Destiny, too? Forcing your friend to watch must be against the Geneva Convention.
SEED is alright. The quality is all over the place, sometimes is terrible and sometimes it's good. Usually it's ok.
Destiny on other hand is what most people would consider a complete trainwreck, though most mecha fans will generally agree that first 15 or so episodes are alright.
Oh it's pretty awful. Even worse when you realize Sunrise edited the DVDs to make the MC even more of a Mary Sue.
Though, unlike Green Green mentioned earlier, SEED does have some decent spank material. So you can jerk eachother off to feel better.
This is what I actually really miss from old anime. It was so expressive and full of life. Now even if this was done in an OVA or movie today it would be 3d with terrible oversaturated colors.
SEED is bad AND boring. The overuse of flashbacks and stock footage will be the end of you.
If you want garbage, you could watch Blood C, it's shorter and funnier (still a pain to go through).
God damnit this thread.....
I wish there was a place for /a/ to gather and talk about anime from times past.... other than just passing once in awhile threads. There's so many old titles I need to catch up on and I'm working my way with what I can read and watch that was released in America. I need more old niggas I can talk to...
augh fuck Geist had some sick ass music. fuck all of ohta's 'mecha masters' shit had awesome music especially Cybernetics Guardian.
there was a lot of love put into WoH
I fondly remember the subtleties leading up to the rape scene
sure you would
I have the dvd collection, fucking made my day finding that at comicon
>I was originally looking for clannad bluerays but those are way to fucking expensive
He only worked on Nausicaa and has been obsessed with it ever since. He never worked on Yamato, he's just a big fan of it.
And he didn't work on Totoro since that came out while he was working on Gunbuster, it was just his Miyazaki-senpai's new movie at the time so he had to throw in a reference.
But gainax is the best animation company that has ever existed (even though it's dead now)
Daicon, otaku no video, honneamise, gunbuster, eva, kare kano, flcl, diebuster, ttgl and PSG are all god tier
And SAC really isn't a good gauge of the industry. It had a HUGE budget and at least a month in between each episode. On the plus side, it's aged VERY gracefully and is still a good watch.
Trash Gang fucking kicks hard ass. Japanese hard rock/glam was fucking beast in the 80's. more anime needs good shit like this.
ahh im just now reading maison ikkoku. picking up Viz's first editions at a local used comics shop. its really good so far.
The time of you and your ilk is over, old man. The truth is out there and belongs to the young. The shining truth that Kyoko is not worth all the trouble she brings when Godai had to wait five years and continually deal with her meltdowns and misunderstandings when she has basically nothing to offer other than a moderately nice body and the potential to occasionally not be a passive aggressive bitch
Remove piyopiyo from the premises
It's just where google led me too when i googled her name. get over it.
What is the point of living when there is no 80s anime with a Show-Ya opening
only the fairly popular stuff from the 80s and earlier is even available online, so it really shouldn't be a surprise, since most of the best mecha comes from pre-computer animation
it's honestly pretty great, especially from the historical aspect.
seems at first like it's ripping on magical girlfriend shows but it's the original
if you watch the first few episodes of TLR after watching the first few episodes of urusei yatsura it's pretty hilarious how the genre's deviated over time and then rubber banded.
I do not recall this aside from some mild amusement from TK or ever finishing the show
Never. And I only stumbled onto Show-Ya from one of their songs being Megumi Kudo's theme while she was still active as a joshi
Shit for furfags.
Good, but not for its art. Which is often minimalistic and bland, but it fits the tone.
Okay, not that great. Good animation because Watanabe is a good director. A good exception to the barren wasteland of the early 2000's.
Its best properties were the royalty-free music.
>There will never be a pure battle shounen more amazing than Hokuto no Ken
Trust me I've watched a lot. They still can't compare.
Not paticularly /a/ related, but every fan of 80's anime needs to see pic related.
It along with Bladerunner influenced the style of anime significantly in the 80's
Plus it's fun as fuck
watched the first Project A-ko Ova and noticed lots of similarities to Kill la kill
MC with red(streak) hair
Strong and violent
Works with rival to fight off aliens
Rich, student body president
blue hair (blue tones in clothes)
sends big buff tanned girl (Gamagoori) to pick on C-ko
sends generic canon fodder to fight MC
gets lewd bikini armor to fight MC
has nude scene in roman bath
blonde, annoying crybaby
gets saved constantly by MC
see this is why i wish japanese animators would collaborate with western writers more often, like with boondocks. was shit was amazingly well written and never felt stale (4rth eason notwithstanding)
Project a-ko is so great, and KLK.
I love the box set of A-ko by US Manga Corps. such a good ass box.
here's a poster I picked up at a con. Can't find this picture online anywhere.
I love streets of fire, reminded me a little bit of escape from NY in how there was a sort of 'urban wasteland' pocketed away.
Plus Megazone had a shout out to it.
it's a little hard to explain and I'm not really all that sure how it happened, people tried copying uruseis success while still changing it over the years and eventually the 'normal' magical girlfriend genre was made in this way, but then you have parodies cropping up which have far more in common to this show that predates the genre itself
it's like this weird time paradox of anime, I should try and track down a little bit more rigidly though.
god damn I love me some boondocks
there just needs to be more non-pc without fart jokes humour
Except people in the 80s when it came out, I guess. Shit taste indeed.
I'd like to visit the 80s. though I wouldn't mind 1979 for Alien, just to see all the horror fanzines, and what the general horror fan reactions of the day were.
And the opening song was repurposed as the opening of bubblegum crisis
Also, directed by the guy who directed The (motherfucking) Warriors
With mecha it seems the trend was from a monster of the week terrestrial defense story, with 0079 starting a trend of more military-minded mecha that would persist through the 80s.
The 90s, I've heard conflicting arguments that the mecha genre was carried by the Yuusha franchise, or Eva.
The 00s had a trend toward reviving old 70s properties (though I guess that started in 1997 with Getter Robo Armageddon), with stuff like Mazinkaiser, the other Getter OVAs (good lord New Getter is 11 years old now) Kotetsushin Jeeg, Daiku Maryu Gaiking, and shoutouts like TTGL.
I wonder how this decade will be looked back on for mecha.
It's no surprised that this exists then, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YYmhN_18ZzE&
Also the soundtrack to the movie is pretty great too.
Here's some more glorious 80's mecha
Any good yandere's anime from the 80-90s?
>Just started urusei yatsura
Oh boy, you're getting into a wild ride, I mean the anime serie actually changes from a love comical story to an experimental series(and you're gonna see this in episodes like the one about the mother or ataru, the last one of the Oshii run, the chilhood of sakura and more) about a teenager/young adult and the problems of his life. Ataru best husbando
>like with boondocks
>amazingly well written
>never felt stale
I feel Ranma 1/2 did not translate all that well into anime form. I grew up with the show, but upon reading the manga and revisiting the anime, I felt a lot of the gags just don't work anywhere as well as they do on manga panels.
It's an excellent show, also watch the movies, especially Beautiful Dreamer and Lum Forever.
Those movies are the best thing from each run, the one from Oshii and the one from Yamazaki.
you should watch the BD, it's glorious
like 2 and a half GB per episode but it was fucking worth it
>Is Climax the name of the actual show/movie?
How can you not know Honey Mayo?
Did it ever explain why her name is Noah?
Wings of Honneamise
All these animations. All these beautiful tits and jiggle. It is as if modern animators stopped caring when they stopped drawing anime by hand.
>Let's show no tits on the TV version to sell the most BDs possible.
>Let's use CGI nipples for the uncensored version.
>mfw the neo-80s trend will never reach anime.
>they stopped drawing anime by hand
They still do, but its slowly being replaced by CG.
Remember that one dude who spammed that CG movie constantly a month or so back?
It hasn't even reached Hollywood.
Unless you count Drive.
File name, anon.
I went through to see who I recognized.
The Sailor Senshi are there in civilian and their uniforms.
Usagi's there, like 5 times.
Also, I can't find Ranma, though I may have missed them.
So why do dubs in general sound better on older anime than on newer ones? It just feels natural to watch things pre-2000 in English when available, and I don't tend to cringe as much as with newer dubs. I'm not even a nostalgiafag, since other than the stuff everybody watched as a kid I got into the medium in the mid-late 00s.
Maddox, an internet satirist and cosplay master.
Not really. He's a grown man. No matter how shitty his costume, a man wears it with pride and stays in character. For he cares only for the judgement of other men, and men only judge others by strength of character.
It's less embarrassing than wearing something that's only mediocre.
If you're wearing a cosplay that poor, it's clear you didn't work too hard on it, so all that matters is the attitude of the person in it.
Naw nigger, just go back to your mum's teat. Men are talking about real women here.
I don't know. I just couldn't do it in anything less than a perfect costume. I get embarrassed even looking a photo of someone else doing it.
Not going to lie, I love that style. I am a big fan of Obari.
>90s anime women
>going for drives
>roadtrips with friends
>walk into gas station and talk with anyone without worrying about being shot or seeming strange
>less security at airports and you could drink
>calling people to discuss the anime tape you just traded with them
>calling people and playing games together over the phone
The 80s were the best.
Just started Creamy mami it alright so far yuu is cute
That shouldn't have got me, but it did.
So uh, i found this
