Why does more anime like this not exist?
-I don't need cringe attempts at comic relief
-Don't need panty shots of 11 year olds
-Don't need a romance plot (seen it all)
-Adult themes
-Main character that I neither like nor dislike
-Story takes place in the real world, or future (possible) real world
I've seen a lot, but this was so mind blowingly different from all the pandering shit that comes out today. Also, Yoshii was the best characters I've seen in 2 years.

Critics who treat 'adult' as a term of approval, instead of as a merely descriptive term, cannot be adult themselves. To be concerned about being grown up, to admire the grown up because it is grown up, to blush at the suspicion of being childish; these things are the marks of childhood and adolescence. And in childhood and adolescence they are, in moderation, healthy symptoms. Young things ought to want to grow. But to carry on into middle life or even into early manhood this concern about being adult is a mark of really arrested development. When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up.

That's Lewis Carrol, you ignorant fuck.

Everybody likes cute girls in Japan, especially people working on the anime industry. Hell, Miyazaki is obviously a lolicon. It's just that the cute girls become the absolute center of attention, disregarding everything else, even the plot. An industry focused only on a niche market of virgin nerds is very limited. It's practically porn, it's all about giving fap material to the audience and the plot is an obstacle for it.
