Blackstar seems to refer to the Black Sun in occult symbolism.

The music video takes place in crop fields. Saturn is the God of Agriculture and periodic transitions. Saturn is also Satan.

Blackstar is obviously a reference to a Saturnian ritual which Bowie wanted to teach to others. The title track details a ritual to take place in the "house of the serpent" (villa of ormen), where the magician will make use of candle-flame scrying ("Stands a solitary candle", "In the center of it all, your eyes") to make contact with something, likely Saturn or something similar and be told divine secrets.

I'm unsure of what the house of the serpent/snake is, though it could be a reference to Ophiuchus, the serpent-bearer. According to wikipedia, this is the 13th astrological sign, and "the Sun is in the sign of Ophiuchus" between November 29 and December 17.

I suspect that his reference is to a daytime ritual when Saturn is visible in the daytime during the serpent-bearer period. Flame scrying is its primary method, by means of a solitary candle.
