grandfather on one side was in the Freemasons, other side i had a great grandfather in the KKK
grandmother burned all things connecting the latter with the KKK because she understood that it was anti-god or something
where do i start learning about these groups? i understand that they are secret organizations, but there must be somewhere to start if my grandparents were someone recruited locally.
i have really no interest in JOINING, but seeing how i hardly knew my grandfathers, i want to look into them.
just do some web research

Can't speak for the KKK, but you could just go to your local Freemason Lodge and ask them about your grandfather's involvement. They should be able to give you a record of his stuff, and explain any kit he left (regalia, books, certificates, etc.)
