Please help I don’t know if this has happened to anyone else but I still can’t believe what happened to me.
I don’t know if this is even paranormal but holy shit

>this past week I’ve been spending in the springfield area because im on break from school
>my parents want me to come with them to our cousin’s house, they live in northern Arkansas, not too far away
>I like my cousins but who I really like is their dog Lysander
>big fluffy malamute/husky mix, one of the prettiest dogs I’ve ever seen
>he’s always so excited to see me
>second day I’m there (yesterday) I decide to go for a hike with him
>uncle wants me to take a gun in case I run into a “crazy” but im from Illinois suburbs and have never shot one in my life
>tell him I’ll be fine, I’m a big girl now and Lyso will protect me
>he agrees but tells me to stay on the trail
>I drive out to a trailhead I found online
>beautiful mountainous region
>this is northern Arkansas so it’s below freezing but totally manageable
>the snow is just brushing the ground
>I’m walking at a great pace, air is fresh, throwing sticks for Lyso
>the trees are getting thicker, I know I’m never going to break a treeline or anything because these aren’t big mountains
>brush is so thick that a lot of this ground doesn’t really have snow, lots of exposed roots, shadows, rocky boulders in the streambeds and such
>it’s pretty quiet except for a few birds
>Lyso is jumping around, so happy
>suddenly he freezes.
>stops and sniffs the air
>I can tell he’s got something on his nose
>he seems a little paralyzed
cont.
>>
>>17203197
>I suddenly feel nervous even though I try to brush it off as normal, I mean, he’s a dog
>he looks confused, starts padding around but is super alert
>then his ears perk up and a low growl starts in his throat
>i stand behind him
>”what is it buddy?”
>his back arches like a cat and he stands in front of me, still softly growling
>I’ve never seen him do this before
>I can literally see his flight or fight reaction working
>flight wins out
>he turns and starts to nudge me into the brush off trail
>I trust him so I follow, I’m generally scared now
>crazy hill people fears and whatnot
>hes not growling anymore but looks confused and alert again, and leads me into a little hollow a ways up the hill from the trail
>there he starts to scan the landscape, and that’s when I see it
>I crouch down, scared out of my mind, but peering through the branches in front of me
>it’s a bear, a really huge one, lumbering through the woods
>>
>>17203204
>I know im probably not in danger because bears don’t usually attack humans, but this one is huge
>I didn’t even know bears were in this area
>Im cursing myself for not bringing that gun
>then I start to notice that the bear is walking funny
>its still a ways off and the branches are hiding it, but it looks like it’s swaying from side to side with each step, as if its drunk or is dragging something
>like its arms are too long for its legs
>when it gets closer I see that its definitely not a bear
>at least not a normal one
>the forearms look way more like human proportions, and its fur looks more like a buffalo or mountain goat of something
>although its back looks like a bear its neck is longer
>and it has a TAIL
>never seen a bear with a tail. Its kinda wagging too, sweeping back and forth
>Lyso is dead silent, still on alert, but clearly just as scared as I am
>the bear thing is rummaging around, getting closer, but for something that big and ungraceful its really quiet
>like, It definitely should be making more noise
>Lyso starts to move and I grab him by the collar and put an arm around him, beggin him to keep quiet
>too late
>he barks, really loud, mean one, and the bear thing looks up quickly
>I can’t even describe the face
>it’s like this fat, furry bear/moose hybrid, small eyes, weird lip things
>it has these small ears, and they shoot up as its looking up the hill right at me
>I’m still holding Lyso and I’m starting to pray at this point
>then the bear thing slowly starts to STAND UP
>my heart skips a beat
>its way bigger than I thought it was
>and its arms are so terrifyingly long for its body
>I let go of Lyso, he bolts down the hill, teeth baring and barking like crazy
>the thing looks confused and scared and turns around, starts to hightail it back the way it came
>>
I aint reading that RP shit niggaroo
>>
>>17203211
>it’s running this weird long armed bear gallop, breaking branches but still with super quiet footsteps
>I run down the hill after it as Lyso chases it away
>thirty seconds later he comes back and licks my hand, I’m totally shaken
>we get back on the trail and head back to my car

what the hell was that? When I got home my family believed me, but I had a hard time explaining it.
My dad and uncle think that it was a bear with some kind of severe deformity, like a growth hormone gene gone wrong and fucking up its bone structure.
They said there’s a few bears in those mountain and maybe inbreeding messed that one up, but its face was definitely NOT a normal animal

>I honestly think I saw bigfoot or maybe whateer people think is bigfoot, when it stoof up on its hind legs it’s silhouette could definitely pass for a furry primate and holy shit it was HUGE
> this is literally my first time even posting on /x/, but since I knew 4chan I came here

No single object has been misinterpreted as a 'flying saucer' more often than the planet Venus.
Even the former leader of Your United States of America, James Earl Carter Jr thought he saw a UFO once,
but it's been proven he only saw the planet Venus.

Venus was at it's peak brilliance last night, you probably thought you saw something up in the sky other than Venus,
but I assure you, it was Venus. Your scientists have yet to discover how neural networks create self consciousness,
let alone how the human brain processes two dimensional retinal images into the three dimensional phenomenon known as perception.
Yet you somehow brazenly declare "Seeing is believing"?

There's a lot of Springfields

i'm asking around and only my friend's dad says he's seen something like the bear thing before
i really want answers, i'm not so much scared anymore but i need to know if anyone else has seen them
>>
>>17203375
They are essentially werewolf like but without the human transformation element.

https://www.dogmanencounters.com/page472.html

They're seen all over the US and a few other places, mostly here in the midwest. They're definatley in the area you were at.

Sightings have been increasing in the past couple of decades, as for what they are. It's anyones guess. They have names in different Native American tribes, there is a bit of lore about them. While they do incite terror, they mostly just want to scare people. Attacks on humans are very, very rare. but they do kill stray outside animals or will attack livestock.

>>
>>17203399
I haven't seen anything myself, although I camp at Mark Twain National Forest occasionally. I've heard shit in the woods that didn't sound like anything I've heard before. I always keep a gun with me out in the woods, mainly in case of boar, but you never know.
>>
>>17203375
>>17203399
Just check out and browse the dogman encounters library on youtube, scroll through the stories and see if any of the people sound like they saw what you've seen. Because it sounds like they have. You've described the exact same thing.

Look up interviews with Linda Godfrey, too. She's the author of the beast of bray road and american monsters. There IS a ton of information about these things, if you know where to look. Most people just dismiss them as bullshit, because while a Bigfoot or something can kind of be understood, a giant wolf that can walk on 2 legs, is a bit more out there. But they do exist. And you've seen one.
>>
>>17203415
i don't know, i'm looking through these descriptions and they don't really seem to match. i dont thing i made it clear that this thing was pretty broad. like you know how a bear looks kinda fat? it was like that. it didn't have a lean predator wolf/ chupacabra look at ALL. more like a weird moosey horse bear thing.
>>
>>17203426
i totally get what you're saying, and in essence these things do match up, but the bear thing i saw seemed pretty different than these.
thick legs, large, flat paws.
wide, sweeping tail.
>>
>>17203429
Dogmen aren't lean like wolves, they are huge, have arms like a man with claws at the end of their fingers. Enourmous heads like a wolf, but the size of bears. Barrel chests, red or yellow eyes depending on the light around. They can howl or make a cry that sounds like a baby or a woman screaming.

Did you see the things legs? Did it have backwards legs like a dog or regular legs like a person? Were the ears on top of its head pointing up or on the side?
>>
Reminds me of the ground sloth stories on here
>>
>>17203432
I know, they can sound very different. I wish i could link more encounters, and find the exact part in each show where people describe what they see. The leg thing is very common, they all say dogmen have thighs like body builders and they are just immense. Black in color is the most common, fur is short and close to the body except around the head where it's almost kind of like a mane, but not really. tufts of fur off the edge of their ears. Snout, or a muzzle like a dogs or baboons.

I mean who knows, it sounds more like one of those than a bigfoot, but you certainly could have seen something completely different. There is a lot of shit out there we don't really know about. Did it have teeth like a canines or did you see those at all?
>>
>>17203432

there's another good one.

>>17203446
this too!
>>
>>17203450
snout was kinda like a moose, you know how they have large noses?
the eyes were pretty small, and the top of the head was like a furry fat horse.
the legs were built just like a bears, but the forearms were long

long fur, reminded me of a buffalo or mountain goat
i didn't see the teeth.
>>
>>17203462

Sounds like maybe thats what OP saw.
>>
>>17203543
i've never even been on /k/, what sightings were there?

>>17203550
>wampus cat
ITs a pasta of a /k/ommando who came to /x/ with his story and questions.

Basically he went into the woods wit hhis survival kit. Ran across someting like OP described, shot it a few times and it ran.

Then basically the same shit happened as now. Someone posted a pic of a giant sloth and he freaked out saying thats what he saw.
I think I have it saved at home, but Im at work.
>>
>>17203560
do you know what state/country its from?

There are two or three pastas with a creature that matches the ground sloth description. The one mentioned earlier usually has gorp in the filename.

>>
>>17203539
ground sloth sightings are very VERY rare. there isn't really a dedicated place for them. They just kinda get lumped in with other cryptids so... until more are sighted you have to just use search engines and listen to cryptid shows.
>>
>>17203667
i don't want people to think i'm crazy.
does anyone know about any professors or somehting that actually study the ground sloth?
like real professors, not cryptid hunters.
>>
>>17203642
their image can't be captured on film. either that or the OP didn't have any electronics on him, if that's the case then they know its safe to come out. They can't turn invisible or anything like that but they can kind of sense when things with batteries or electronics are present. their senses are on a whole other level, like how dogs can hear and see stuff way before we can. It's like that but with human tech they're wary of.

That's probably why humans only tend to see them when they don't have cameras or anything.
>>
>>17203474
Aren't these supposed to be extinct?

i've lived in southern MO for the past 15 years and i've seen ground sloths twice. first time was up close, when i was hunting. i was actually tracking another animal when i saw the thing mosy right pass me, either it wasn't spooked or it didn't sense my presence.

second time was across a field further away but there was no denying it was the same animal. i figure they must have underground burrows or something but i didn't go looking because even i understand that endangered creatures need to be left alone.
for a while i called what i saw a "branch bear" because the first time i saw one it was eating branches.
only learned about the ground sloth classification 4 years ago.
i managed to get in contact with a man who worked at the peabody museum at Yale, he actually took me seriously but he still had a lot of doubt.
>>
>>17203787
what did the museum guy say about your story?
>>
>>17203799
>>17203787
He said my description was that of a https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nothrotheriops

apparently they have a whole skeleton of this kind at yale.
he said that all the big mammals in north america died out at the end of the last ice age, probably due to human impact actually (everywhere that humans went across the globe large mammals and other large creatures have died out)

he said that the specimens they have are about 10,000 to 11,000 years old, which is when the sloths died out.
but he did make a point about how that's actually a really short time, evolutionarily speaking.
he didn't think it possible that any were around today, but he said if they did it was more likely that smaller variety survived.

we were built on pastas just like this one, and now you expect only the strictest of interpretations?
have you strayed from the path of /x/?

>>17203197
Since nobody else wants to say it, fine. OP, instead of jumping to /x/ immediately, I think you should take your story over to /an/ or /out/. It sounds like you're jumping to conclusions, and you should exhaust all of your mundane explanations and avenues of research before resorting to extraordinary explanations. Just my two cents as a skeptic.

>>17206152
If this is just a creepypasta, fine. In the event that it's not, and someone came here actually looking for advice, that's what I'm trying to provide.
I'm sure there are people that come to /x/ for the creepypasta and some scary stories, but don't necessarily believe in anything that's posted here. I know that, because I'm one of them. I'm just as sure that there are people on this board that believe every word of it. If OP is telling the truth, she deserves better than to just have everyone agree with her, or give her a differing but equally wacky opinion.

Time phenomenon? Ice age giant sloth took a wrong step into a portal. Or maybe a ghost of a ice age giant sloth. You did say it made no noise. I highly recommend contacting and emailing a biologist. Sometimes they hang out on here or you could find one on the science board. Then describe what you saw, try your damndest to sear it into your brain. Proportions, muscles, fur, teeth, face, every time thing can help identify it. Draw it if you have any skill, to better remember it to identify it.
