Hey /x/ this is my first post here but seeing as how I found something quite interesting a couple days ago, I decided to make this thread
Now a little backstory, I was drunk and in ottowa some 4 days ago, along the canal when I found a briefcase, it was 6 am, and no one was around so I grabbed it thinking nothing of it tI'll I got home, and realised it was locked.. I broke into it, to find tons of manilla envelopes with papers most blacked out with sharpie, others with random numbers and letters (h4ze67lf53fs) I threw those out, and found this at the bottom... Now, I can plug it into my computer, but nothing loads, any ideas what could be on it?!
The papers have been recycled but they all had serial numbers and talked about a conference with names blocked out, dates and times and something about "newsworthy" and "patriotism" most was nonsensical cause of the sharpie, and others where just pages of letters and numbers jumbled together..
Here's a picture of the back, time stamp included
It's an external hard drive if you guys have yet to guess
I'm not sure if I should take this thread to /pol/ or /g/ but it seems to fit into the scheme of things here, so If anyone would want to theorize about what could be on here, or what this all means then I'm open to discussion.. If anyone would know how to get into it, that would also be awesome.
What happens when you plug it in? Assuming you have the proper USB cable to interface with it.
Also you should have kept the other papers with the codes. They would have been interesting to analyze from a turbonerd perspective.
Absolutely nothing happens, it takes the same (Mini usb??) cable as my camera but my computer does not recognize it..
Id have kept the papers if I knew I where going to post here.. Most where dated from 2 months ago, the serial numbers where all "DND -1485 (6-45) 76934-24-242526".. Most of them where totally unreadable cause of the sharpie, the only ones not blacked out where random digits as I mentioned above.. Ill type out something similar and post a screen cap
Anyone have any idea what comesec material is? Google is showing no results on my end.
Communication Security.. ComSec.
Let's just hope the Canadian Police don't track you down, somehow...or hope that the videos in that drive aren't the kind that end up killing you after viewing them once.
Yeah, I've spent way too much time on here.
Its almost like the papers, but an old man reading it instead.
I don't know what any of this means
I don't know anything about this stuff.. Anyone? Should I head over to /g/
Does Canada even have nukes?
Tried everything it would let me to open it, nothing..
a mime-type just means what association the file has to applications on a system; file headers are blocks of data inside files that provide information to a system to tell it how/what to do with the file, like instructions
I'll grab a piece of paper and write out what its saying, I stopped listening to it, its really eerie, old man wheezing as he reads coughing and stuff. In the second one it almost sounds like hes crying, or in duress... This is fucking spookie
Is it just numbers hes reading? Possible coordinates?
4 gigs is a hefty amount of just data...
Can you open the properties of the folder or high-light all 4 to show the size on the hard drive?
Numbers and words
heres the screencaps? Is this what you meant
It's too long to write it all, and I'm a little drunk, are these coordinates?
Thats just the folder size obviously nothings hidden in there... Are the 2 video files the other remaining space? the 1.36 gigs? If they dont add up to that go up to folder options and click on "Show hidden files/folders" if they do add up dont worry about that part
Upload the files. You already posted the pics and shit you wont get in any more trouble uploading the actual files..
Aha! I've got an idea!
Acquire a copy of TrueCrypt. I have a hunch that that empty folder is either the key, or is some sort of placeholder necessary to decrypting that 4GB file. That or the folder name is literally the password.
Yeah, I thought it would be a stab in the dark, but this is what I was going to suggest as well. If it were me, I'd try. However, I can't understand why they'd include an encrypted volume and have the password included on the drive itself in some form as well. That's not exactly good security.
Not coordinates, but seems like code of some kind. Creepy and interesting.
I do agree it isn't good security, but typically government security flexes on the level of ease. To the average computer schwanzkopf, they'd be stumped just by not being able to open the dubious file by double-clicking. Where else better to keep something like a long hex password than in plain sight, y'know? Just an idea.
It keeps going, more words and letters, the man wheezing and coughing nervously.. its kinda really eerie, he sounds sad.. There are no other voices except the droning of numbers and his wheezing
The briefcase was fresh like conveniently placed right alongside a bench next to the canal, It looked expensive pic related, most resemblance to it
This early for a bell van im assuming is a ISP company?
Also the case was next to a bench that you sit on? Maybe a guy was sitting there and had to run off or was abducted and the case left behind?
Dead-drop gone wrong?
Been posting in this thread since you made it, just relooked over everything..
>left on bench
My theory.. Government employee selling secrets. He encrypted the code to only he knows the cipher to.
The person he was gonna sell it to took him got spooked forgot briefcase.
Bell van is the abductors there was a tracker on briefcase and or hard drive..
Op is kill
im thinking dead-drop or just an over worked tired dude. with a shit wife and kids who cant even get a decent meal after a long day of work might of just forgot it.. Because his son decided he didnt like his gender anymore and decided to become a pansexual feminist
They're in my backyard, its 2 dudes 1 still in the van
what the fuck
I went outside and asked
uprgrading my neighbours intertnet
fuck what the fuck
I'm with shaw not bell
theyre fucking with wires on a ladder near my window, Im out guys, fuck this microaving this hard drive and sleeping with my sks
see yiu in hell anons theyre talking to eachother near the truck now
its 4 guys
what upgrade needs 4 people, fuck this
Check the news, hull quebec not going out without a fight
>Early this morning 4 Bell workers were called to the address **** to provide internet service to Mr Anon. In the early morning hours when they arrived, Mr anons son, OP emerged from the house. The lone surviving Bell worker said OP looked and acted "Very spooked eh, like he was paranoid and hasn't slept for days" OP then asked "Who the *** are you guys?! While screaming from his door step" Thats when the lone survivor and the other Bell workers returned to the van and discussed if they should leave for they feared they may be in danger. Soon after OP was seen opening his 2nd floor bedroom window and started shooting at the Bell workers with an assault rifle, screaming incoherently. The mounties were called in and OP is now ded. He is believed to be a part of the group Anonymous, the super group of hackers on steroids. Details will be revealed soon, stay tuned."
My sides are in orbit, thank you for that anon
We can own fake ones made in china, I live in montreal an hour or so from the OP, I'll be watching the news at work, OP better go maple syrup rambo.
>Government agent throws down a drop for someone to pick up shortly
>Some random drunk dude, just by chance, wanders up to the briefcase before the intended recipient arrives
>takes it and posts it on 4chan
>doesn't upload the files
Only in fucking Canada, eh.
I thought this may have been an elaborate sort of game setup by the OP, but usually the people who do that sort of thing do a better job of putting the stuff out there. Considering the OP didn't follow through and seemed genuinely unable/unwilling to give out the files, it seems likely that it was legit.
I don't see why you'd construct and fabricate everything he did for no apparent payoff of any kind. Would've been cool if he'd uploaded the files somewhere.
>Considering the OP didn't follow through and seemed genuinely unable/unwilling to give out the files, it seems likely that it was legit.
How does that show it was legit? If he doesn't want to share it then that probably means it's BS. That's like me saying i got an alien in my freezer but i won't show it for fear of reprisal. It's a cop out is what it is.
I just found this thread, I don't know what to think.. The op might be legit, it would not be the first time, and I understand that he was hesitant to not upload, it all seems a little too elaborate and thought out to be a troll.. I want to believe.
Looks like school-crest.png
There's a thin line between being scared of Canadian spec-Ops and pure paranoia maple syrup rampage. OP is fagot for not posting files and throwing out papers, it'll stay secret forever. Goddammit, not every day some drunk dude stumbles upon a dead-drop and posts it on 4chan.
seeing as how were on a board for paranormal things and such it seems your closedminded self would be considered the stupid one here
>spirits and demons do what they like
>you're a giant cumgurgling faggot
I'm no e/x/pert but it looks like at one time or another those marks were exposed to elements, meaning if OP did cross that shit out, it sat outside. It wasn't done at time of posting.
also OP are you a time traveler? you're a full day ahead. not canadia fag, but I don't think you'd be that far ahead, right?
yes I am paying attention. what I am saying is that they DID sit outside or were exposed to condensation and/or elements at one time or another.
>it seems like I am the only one paying attention to details.
/x/ what happened to you?
>"Oh my, we are sorry for leaving that suitcase there. We didn't expect to scare an innocent citizen for life. Here's a box of maple syrup for your trouble. We are so sorry. Have a nice evening citizen! Thank you very much for keeping the country safe!"
COMSEC is responsible for transferring information between Canada's agencies. Well, they failed.
No you fucking idiot, it just means communications security. Like it's role is communication security you imbecile. It's not an organization the US uses the same terminolgy.
should we make a cross thread to /g/ as a cry for help?
>maple syrup is a government secret
That's likely an encrypted volume. Picture a manila folder you can digitally lock. Best chance to open it is to use the unix file command on it and see what type of encrypted volume it is, then download the software get a hash and start brute forcing.
Hey OP. Comsec is communication security material. Classified up to Secret, being a NATU designated classification that means the material could be SECRET //REL TO CAN. or FOUO (for official use only)
If the material was discarded at secret someone isn't doing their job. Your best bet is to not worry about whatever that info is, and to shred the material. Material wont load because of reasons in place.
To keep yourself out of trouble, snuff the stuff.
Trust me, this isn't trouble you want and going to a public board posting about it was a bad idea to start.
I just want to point out that any classified USB storage would phone home the moment you plug it into your computer.
OP, you weren't stupid enough to plug an unknown USB device into your computer with an active internet connection, are you?\
we've had people here, nobody talked to us.
4gb (and exactly 4gb) looks like an encrypted container file. like some other dude mentioned, the magic bytes would have been interesting, but OP seems to be kill now.
also, if it actually was an encrypted container, it wouldn't have a password like "i<3dicks". the password would have been so long that we weren't even able to crack it using all our computing power combined.
