So, /x/. Ghosts have been coming up more and more in my thoughts lately, and I'm in the mood for a ghost general. Post anything ghost related here.

I'd like to get some good discussion going, so, feel free to answer any of these questions;
+Do you believe in ghosts|haunts|spirits?
+Do you believe such things can physically effect a human?
+How do you/don't you think such things can occur?
+Why do you/don't you think such things occur?
+What makes you skeptic?
+Have you ever believed in ghosts?
+Have you ever thought you saw a ghost/spirit/etc.?

Feel free to ask your own questions. I'll be periodically dumping links, images, and videos related to ghosts in the thread in an attempt to get some "quality" threads going

This is a Gif but it's NOT a jump-scare/screamer. Its a comparison between two pictures during a family's lunch at a resort in Austria. the very tangible bust of a woman suddenly photobombs the second picture.
I'm working on links. For right now, here's some "haunted shit" to keep you interested. It's gonna be weak until I get myself together.

>Do you believe in ghosts|haunts|spirits?
I want and I tend to believe, but I'm not 100% sure.

>Do you believe such things can physically effect a human?
Yes, but ghosts have a very limited physical power.

>How do you/don't you think such things can occur?
>Why do you/don't you think such things occur?
When the body dies, it release the soul. This soul is supposed to go to a certain place but sometimes it gets stuck. It's generally because theses souls are bound to something or someone, or because they can't find peace since they witnessed something horrible or died in a very tragic way.

>What makes you skeptic?
No scientific evidences and theories.

>Have you ever thought you saw a ghost/spirit/etc.?
I may have saw spirits, but I probably didn't.

That would imply a ghost sighting recorded simultaneously with different devices in a controlled environment by a reputable team of scientists.
They would have to provide an explanation of how such thing is possible and this explanation has to be supported by experimental evidences.
And they would also have to prove by various means that the ghost is sentient and have a human memory.

I don't imply that this would be possible nor that the ghost existence is unlikely until we have scientific evidences. But we can't be absolutely sure until a successful similar experiment is conducted.

By the way, if you have any links to share about serious scientific experiments and explanations about ghost, I would be very grateful.

More than I feel I should. Like a lot of evidence points the other way, but my gut says that there's shit in the world that science just isn't tackling properly.
>Do you believe such things can physically effect a human?
If they exist in the physical world, perhaps.
>Why do you/don't you think such things occur?
>How do you/don't you think such things can occur?
Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if different ghost sightings are different things. Some might genuinely be the indisposed spirits of the dead, others natural phenomena not yet officially recorded and some are probably waking hallucinations. As an aside, I believe that ghosts that are a product of the mind are just as much ghosts as a 'real', physical being would be, as, in the moment, there isn't much difference, and you'd be an idiot to say that hallucinations can't affect a waking person.

"Using advanced scientific equipment to analyze sound waves believed to be made by ghosts during haunting, Dr. Colvin has found that these sounds are strikingly different forms when compared to known noises created by people, animals, or anything else found within our world. The paranormal acoustic wave forms have no conventional explanation by Dr. Colvin or his fellow scientists."

For all the ghost experts out there, I have a few questions:
90% of all humans were hunter gatherers, why aren't there any 'cave man' ghosts?
Surely there would be a lot of them right?
If there have been many many times more people who have lived and died than are alive now, surely we would have many billions more ghosts than people alive currently, so why have I never seen a ghost?
I should see the streets flooded with ghosts, I should not be able to see anything but ghosts, what's with that?
If a person dies as a baby, does that baby turn into a ghost?
Is that baby stuck being a baby or will it 'grow up'?
I've heard of animal ghosts, such as people seeing their deceased dog or whatever,
Can animals become ghosts?
If so, why haven't I heard of dinosaur ghosts?
Why would some animals become ghosts and not other animals?
And for that matter, do plants become ghosts?
If my tomatoes in my garden die, would they become ghost tomatoes?

I feel like we dont have 'cave men' ghosta becausethey didnt really attach to anything. Cave men were neanderthallic and worked primarily off instinct, to my knowlege, andso, I dont think they'd be stuck in this world because of a lovers dispute or a stolen music box or something, you know? They don't have most of what the the ghost we've come to know and love require/use to stay in this world. They don't have an emotional/mental anchor.

Same with babies. They would have to be toddlers, and therein develop attachment to anchor to the world of theliving.

As for the tomatos.... Surprisingly, you might have ghost tomatoes IF YOU LIVE on a quartz deposit. It could record your tomatoes.
Sorry for typos, mobile is a bag of asses.
>>
>>15053594
Not a ghost experts, but I will do my best.

>90% of all humans were hunter gatherers, why aren't there any 'cave man' ghosts?
Surely there would be a lot of them right?
Ghost don't stay indefinitely on earth, sooner or later, they move to another place or their energy dilute in the atmosphere. Most of the times, they only stay for a few days.

>If there have been many many times more people who have lived and died than are alive now, surely we would have many billions more ghosts than people alive currently, so why have I never seen a ghost?
>I should see the streets flooded with ghosts, I should not be able to see anything but ghosts, what's with that?
Only a very few of deceased people turn into ghost and they generally don't remain very long on earth. Moreover, they tend to stay in a specific area, and usually, they manifest themselves rarely, faintly, for a short time and during the night.

>If a person dies as a baby, does that baby turn into a ghost?
I don't think so. A ghost is generally someone who has gone through a traumatic experience. A baby is to young to understand a traumatic experience, don't have a good memory, and he is not even conscious of is own existence. I think the youngest ghosts must be at least two or three years old.

>Is that baby stuck being a baby or will it 'grow up'?
A ghost keep is appearance after is death.

>Can animals become ghosts?
Yes, but it is more rare and they would be fainter than a human ghost since an animal soul is less developed than a human one. I think it have more probability to happen if the animal is bound to a human, in example a dog dying at the same time as his master with his master turning into a ghost.

cont...
>>
>>15053977

>If so, why haven't I heard of dinosaur ghosts?
Same as for caveman ghost

>Why would some animals become ghosts and not other animals?
The bigger the soul of an animal is, the bigger are the probability it can become a ghost. The size of the soul depends of his overall intelligence, his ability to thinks and understand physical and social mechanism, is ability to construct a though, resent emotion and to communicate with his specie, whether he is conscious of is own existence or not, and so on...
For example, dogs, pigs, primates, octopus and dolphins probably have greater chance to become a ghost than cats, cows and jellyfishes.

And for that matter, do plants become ghosts?
If my tomatoes in my garden die, would they become ghost tomatoes?
I don't think so, plants may have some kind of soul, but they are different than animals one. Maybe a plant can leave some type of residual energy, but that would not be considered as a ghost.
The only exception would be that this plant is bound to a human ghost. For example, if someone die while carrying a bunch of flowers, he may still hold it when becoming a ghost in the same way he keeps his clothes.
>>
>>15053938
I agree, and it also applies to animals.
>>
Maybe ghosts are something inherit to the development of sapience and the nature of consciousness, in some way.
>>
>>15054011
What an interesting though... That would assune they're a constant in any sentient community? Does that mean that animalson a higher intelligence spectrum, such as Dolphins or apes, could have ghosts?
>>
>>15053938
So, when then did people start becoming ghosts?
17th century?
>>
>>15053594
>If my tomatoes in my garden die, would they become ghost tomatoes?

top kek
>>
>>15054027
Maybe.

Personally, I believe that even if ghosts are mere hallucination, inventions of the brain, they're still incredibly real; perhaps not in the tangible sense that some scientist and parapsychologists would wish for, but in that they are a product of the human soul that do manifest from extremes of emotion and experience.
>>
>>15054032
No no, much earlier than that; but as we develope newera.d newer technologies, I think ghosts from older times lose theability to contact us in understandable ways past maybe thumps. Plus, a ghost that speaks a dead language (sumerian, high germanic, etc) wouldn't understand any questions asked. As time progressess, older ghosts would become less and less able to use new energy sources and would eventually not be able to gather energy at all. Their sould would be trapped here with no way to communicate.

Ah, like in the way that it's theorized that Poltergeists are the result of emotionally disturbed teens? If I'm following you, you're implying a psychological projection of strong emotions, correct? Like, If you miss grandma enough, you'll see her?
>>
>>15054078
Yep, pretty much. The problem is that most scientists, at this point, would state that ghosts have been disproven and that it's 'just' a psychological phenomenon, while I believe that it would be something of a confirmation of our spiritual elements and abilities.
>>
>>15054107
If there's true physical activity, I don't get the Psychologist's point of view on Poltergeists; They deny any sort of Levitation or telepathy as possible, but when mass amounts of witnesses can attest to things flying, being grabbed or smacked, pulled, doors slamming, an unknown, unseen presence interacting with the physical world... If it's not a ghost, and they call it a psychological phenomenon, but Telepathy can't exist, then what the fuck do they hope to explain it as?

>Personally, I believe that even if ghosts are mere hallucination, inventions of the brain,

But if that was the case, how can you explain that these ghost can be record with a camera or a microphone, and especially when these devices are recording when nobody is around to "project" this ghost.
>>
The first thing you need to realize is that a ghost isn't actually the spirit of a departed human. A ghost is a kind of servitor, a psychic snapshot created by a fearful person who is about to die a sudden and violent death. The trauma of death causes the victim to achieve gnosis, and in their final moment they involuntarily perform magic. It's basically a "clone" of the person who created it, a manifestation of the most primal and powerful impulse of the human mind; the survival instinct. If you've ever read a book on Chaos Magic you understand where I'm coming from.
>>
>>15054161
In Prometheus Rising, Wilson talks about "mass hallucinations" and how skeptics are always eager to dismiss anything paranormal as a hallucination/mirage/psychological thing... even when THOUSANDS OF WITNESSES all report the same thing.
>>
>>15054170
That one is interesting. With sound evidence only, it's likely just to be...ah, crap, I can't remember the term, but you know that thing where humans associate patterns with faces and speech? That.

With film, I honestly can't say. A lot of the time, it's probably fake, but I've seen cases that have stumped me.

Anyway, I'm not saying that ghosts necessarily ARE just hallucinations, but that if they are, that still counts as real to me.

>>15054177
The problem with the idea of mass hallucination is that the exact same image being fabricated by the brains of multiple people is just as extraordinary as a claim as ideas of spiritual beings.

Seconded! On a separate matter, what do you all think about demons and stuff? Like, see people using the terms demons interchangeably with ghosts, I think. Like, haunted Items and whatnot. Where do you think the line crosses between something demonic and something that's simply a ghost?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hcP7QIFN4p4
>>
>>15054249
The demonic, for me, has two main definitions. One is that it is a malevolent force, that causes mischief and misrule at best and outright harm and death at worst. The second is that any apparitions and manifestations show no links to the constructs of the human world in appearance, and are usually more monstrous.

Expectation bias maybe ?

Also, an other problem with your theory would be haunted house. If a house is haunted, the ghost would leave or disappear if the owner move or die.
But this is not what happens, usually the newcomer notices weird thing even if he didn't know the house was supposed to be hunted.

But I agree with you on the rest. Most of the ghost video are probably fake and they could exist different type of ghost and some of them may be a pure product of the mind.
>>
>>15054317
That's because ghost videos net money. We live in a money driven world, my friend. That's why it's best to make connections, form bonds, and trust people who go out to do these things and not fake them. I'm thinking about doing some EVP sessions in my house, but I don't know if I have the balls for it.

Mediumfag here. To tell the truth, I didn't realize they were spirits until someone told me that they couldn't see the person(s).

Yes, spirits are capable of physical harm, but they have to focus emotional energy into it. Check out the movie "Ghost" to see what I mean.

Some spirits believe that they still have a body even though they have been dead for awhile.

BTW, animals spirits are real too even the cockroaches. You stomp on them, but they continue moving around while other people think you are a crazy person.

We looked everywhere for a place it could have gotten in and found nothing. Plus, when my roomie saw it at the bottom of the stairs, it would have had to run up the narrow stairwell and past him because the door at the bottom was closed.
Also, if it was living he would have known because he's severely allergic to cats.

I always thought there was some cat demon at my mothers place. When i was a kid we had two cats. Both of them would just flip out and attack you for seemingly no reason at times. They were fine most of the time but it was like they were possessed. They would jump right at your face. I had a lot of nightmares about cats too, though thar might be because of me not really trusting and fearing my own.

One day though I woke up to a cat on my chest staring at me inches away from my face and I swear it had a human face. Kind of like an old mask, kind of wrinkly. Probably just drowsy i guess... like now.

I've been watching paranormal shows for a while now, and I've started liking Ghost Adventures, but mainly out of the brohumor and how off-topic they get with their paranormal ideas.
But /x/ hates them, I don't understand why. I'd assume it's the evidence, so can anyone just explain what I should be saying "that's false" to? I can understand EVP's being simulated, but what about the radio sweeps, the anomalies on nightvision, the Kinect software they've used?

Is this true for all paranormal shows like this?
>>
>>15054161
They didn't see it, but the camera did. Certainly the cameraman would have reacted.
>>
Why is it that ghosts are always associated primarily with Christianity? Just because I believe ghosts are plausible doesn't mean it's tied to a religion. I have zero faith in the idea that people are taken over by demons, just a form of energy that can make them "unstable". The whole anointing oil and the cross holds no sway.
>>
>>15056712
I think it's just in countries like America where there are a lot of Christians. There's ghost stories from Japan, but most of them aren't Christian.
>>
>>15056688
I don't get this myself, I personally like those shows but it's true that they have to feel the time slot with evidence, so some of it is said to be scripted. I'd actually say GA's EVPs are the least credible, but out of all the paranormal investigators on TV they usually have the best visual evidence. I couldn't tell you if their footage caught on camera could be false, and frankly I doubt it.
>>
>>15055619
Tomatoes likely don't hold an emotional value, but a gravestone can come to be as valued as a living person, so they could linger if there was enouvh sentiment, to cause an anchorage.
>>15056688
Radio sweeps can also be simulated. You have to understand how easy it is to slice out static on a shitty radio and put in some "ghost voice" to fake evidence. Kinects aren't even good for gaming, considering you have to recalibrate them every twenty goddamn seconds, and nightvision is just is just nightvision.

>>15056748
Theres a whole ... THING where people attach their religion to everyrhing. It's just got to do with society nowadays.
>>
>>15056712
I'm willing to go out on an analytical ledge and infer that at least 98% of all "demon posessions" are fucking fake. They're probably just christfags, kid gets rabies or some shit and they chalk it up to "posession".
>>
>>15057630
>Kinects aren't even good for gaming
>Nightvision is just nightvision
Man, I dunno. Using laser detection and custom software in their realtime Kinect footage seems mighty impossible to fabricate. They've even shown it in realtime while filming, so I doubt those are fake findings; they're hitting something that appears and disappears.
As for nightvision, they have found a few moving anomalies, even with infrared camera and thermal. I fail to see how the bro adventures crew has the capability to fabricate visual data in an environment with proprietary software. Even if their audio samples are probably fake, their visual evidence has always been debunked from what I've seen. Why does /x/ give these guys such a terrible rep just for possible fake EVPs?
>>
>>15053614
Actually spirits are capable of eating. They eat spiritual representation of food and can sit at the table when there is a place for them to sit.
>>
>>15054032
No, my guardian spirit is a knight from the 14th century.
>>
>>15057652
I give everyone claiming to be a go be a host hunter bad rep, its just in my nature I supposed. The kinect's "Laser Detection" is actually just infrared light that the human eye can't see. the "custom software" can legally be called such if they put a comment block with the word "fart" in it... Like, I've never seen a reputable ghost hunter. I don't trust people not to make shit up for shiggles, you know?

>>

>>15059080
It's probably from the Indian burial site, but I don't get how the cave comes in. I read the Wiki page for the Bell Witch and she just is made out to be a stalker/murderer? It never even says she lives in a cave. I went to the site and I'm just lost about all of it, I don't get why she's so "scary".

Stuff like this only happens when the camera screws up the exposure. In the first image the flash went off, freezing the motion. The flash did not fire in the second image and likely had a much longer exposure. The longer the shutter is open, the more blur or artifacts can become visible. It's either the same woman who moved or a totally different woman who was out of view or hell even in the bathroom in the first image.

If there's a whole thing about religion and ghosts shouldn't we see it in more than just Christianity? If we're only seeing it in christfags, it could be because we're Muricans.
>>
>>15059128
I felt like someone was watching me, particularly when I was standing around the center of the cave with open area all around me. Also, the constant dripping of water added to the atmosphere. Nothing happened overtly, except that I swore I heard rocks splashing as if someone was walking while we went further. But that just could have been the amplified acoustics of the cave. Also, I hate that I don't have the camera nor the files on me, but we took pictures and there was an anomaly on one of them. Couldn't explain it. It was like a mist.

Ive got a toweltergeist in my bathroom
I know that sounds ridiculous but when I get up in the morning and go to the bathroom pretty often the towel from the towel rail is on the floor. It happens in patches, like most days for a week or so and then doesnt happen for a couple of weeks and then starts happening again. The first few times I didnt think anything of it but when I started to notice it as weird I would actually check that the towel is evenly draped over the rail so theres no way it could just slide off due to one side being heavier than the other and it keeps happening. Ive just had a quiet period when it didnt happen for a while but the last two days the towel has been on the floor both mornings

Why hasn't there been serious scientific research into things like apparitions and ghosts?

It's only been a phenomenon rumored to be true universally across all cultures forever. With people claiming startling anecdotal evidence constantly. How hard would it be to send a legitimate research team into an allegedly haunted area to find anomalies or some shit? Is there really no one who would fund this research?

>Brother and I visit dad at his super old house in DC
>We have to share the guest room
>2am on first night, brother and I just talking
>hear footsteps approaching the door
>footsteps stop and door opens wide
>NOPE NOPE NOPE
>we jump out of bed and check the hallway and room
>go back to bed shitting our pants
>nothing else happened while we were there

I also lived in a haunted house for about 4 years when I was younger. The haunting was pretty much only upstairs and the dogs would refuse to go up there and freak out at the bottom of the steps sometimes. It wasn't super horrible, just feelings of something watching you, someone calling your name when noone is home, and one time a mirror breaking. My brother and I had rooms upstairs and our mother never believed in ghosts and still doesn't. She had her room downstairs

I've got a few ghost stories for you guys. In my hometown of Perth Amboy, NJ there is the Proprierary House. It is the last house of it's kind throughout the entire original 13 colonies. It is where the royal governor of NJ, appointed by the English king himself, lived. That house has a long history of being haunted, to the point where TAPS investigated it (but I don't really follow them because eh). Look at this place, it doesn't look like much right? This shit is intimidating to see in person. You drive down the street and it looks like nothing, but stop in front of it and get out of your car and bam. The actual size of the place hits you like a truck.

First things first, Ben Franklin's son William Franklin lived in this mansion until he was very publicly arrested for remaining loyal to the English crown. His dad didn't care, and that was the end of William. They say he haunts the place and there is an off feeling whenever his story is told because the place is a museum now. On the side of the right side of the building, there are a few rows of windows. In the 1800s some guy through his nephew out one of them and the kid of course died from the fall. People see his apparition often in the window he was thrown from. Then you have that weird door just floating on top of the one you actually go in to go inside. There used to be a balcony there and it is said that when the balcony collapsed, a woman had been standing on it and she died from the fall. People see her in various windows just staring out at the streets.

first things first, ***Proprietary House
story in relation to the little boy apparition:
>be me in 4th grade on a field trip with my class
>kind of bored but interested in going because even at that age I was obsessed with American history and I'm psyched that the site is actually in the town we live in
>in a school bus because there are like 30 something of us kids in the class so the school wasn't comfortable with that many of us walking about 10 minutes away
>driving down the street in the direction where we can see the right side of the building and the bus is parked
>as we get out I notice what looks like a weird little boy staring out at the window for a good few seconds and then he disappears as if he walked away from the window
>we get inside and we go on the tour throughout the building "this is the very room George Washington slept in during his stay here in Perth Amboy, etc." and I'm confused because we aren't allowed to continue the tour up on the level where the little boy was seen because its personnel only
>"why was that kid up there?" I have to piss so another employee takes me to go and before I go in I ask her, "why aren't we allowed to go upstairs? I saw a boy looking out."
>she looks stunned at me for a second and then smiles at me and says we'll talk about it after I use the bathroom
>asks me what window I saw the kid in and I point it out and she gets super excited and begins to tell me about all of the ghost stories of the house, including the specific little boy I saw

That was when I was introduced to the ghosts of the Proprietary House, and helped shape me into the ghost loving nut I am today.

Nice! Is there a lot of limestone in that area? It could be a kind of recording rather than an attachment, unless she eplained what he might be anchored to or whatever?
>>
>>15061963
Right now I'm actually not sure, but possibly because there is an old cemetery closeby that dates back to the 1600s at least (rumor is some of the headstones were damaged during a bombing by British soldiers from the Raritan Bay). This cemetery is said to be haunted by ghosts of the Revolutionary period.
I know of another cemetery in Perth Amboy, called Alpine, that is haunted as well and there are tons of limestone graves there. The high school is near that area and there is a ghost of a boy there that apparently sits on top of his headstone and watches football games in Water Stadium (the school's field). The woman at the Proprietary house never explained why the ghosts may be there, but employees complain that suddenly they get sick feeling in the room of his window and in the main lobby of the house, and after leaving those rooms they feel fine. The lobby presence is believed to be William Franklin.
