People didn't figure it out until way after the game's popularity died down, but you could actually push many sections of the map (medium-sized asteroids, freight containers, crashed ships, etc) with explosives and use the debris as cover

Nice to see some of my webm's from the Retro FPS Thread of /vr/ getting some use elsewhere
>>1827472
This is why I love PC games.
Hello oldfags. Nice vidya. You wont find much of an audience for this here, unfortunately.
>Ryan Lockwood's narrated replay of his record-tying 1:12 Streets Agent run with subtitles. He's narrating his run over stream to his audience, shortly after achieving it. It was the first time he or anyone else watched the replay of the run.
>Ryan is the second person to achieve the time of 1:12 on this level. Normally record ties aren't big news, but Ryan hit this time before getting 1:13. This is absurdly unlikely. Streets agent 1:12 is one of the most frame-for-frame maxed times in GoldenEye, first accomplished by Marc Rützou in 2012, a player whose made a name for grinding hard to break/set records that are daunting to match. Only a few have shown serious intentions (or even interest) in matching the feat since. Technically, Ryan isn't among them, as 1:13 was his goal. But you'll see in the video that he had a good sense of what was on the line toward the end of his run.
>The nuances of Goldeneye speedrunning may be hard to detect, but the novelty of this run's unlikeliness should not be. A 1:14 run Streets is probably a 1 in 20 event, with respect to Lockwood's ability. A 1:13 absolutely requires something random (RNG) -- the presence of a well placed grenade launcher guard. Let's call 1:13 a 1 in 500 event. A 1:12 run leans on "RNG factors" even more, also requiring at least 3 "boosts" from gunfire (getting shot in the pack, pushing you ahead slightly). Let's suppose 1 in 10,000 odds for 1:12, in which case you can probably expect dozens of 1:13 runs before achieving 1:12. Think of this like a statistical outlier in a distribution plot -- perhaps a few hundred data points between 74.0 and 75.0 seconds, thousands between 74.0 an 76.0, and one 72.9.

I like watching AGDQ and SGDQ because I get to see games I know stretched to their limits and beyond. Sometimes I also learn about new games that look fun to play, or about some of the strange idiosyncracies of olds ones I never knew.
Highlight this year was the Sonic 06 speedrun where the runners managed to find a completely hitherto unknown softlocking bug in that game that nobody had never seen before live.
THEY WEREN'T EVEN TRYING TO GLITCH THE GAME OUT. THEY WERE JUST PLAYING NORMALLY.
And then at the end Phantoon will turn a SMetroid speedrun race into a standard Zoast Super Metroid Speedrun. Because that game is over 20 years old and it will STILL kick your ass at a moments notice.

I think that was the point, he finally had enough and gave up. Reinforces that everyone has a breaking point really.
>>1844087
Should have done it at the end of the second game then when he was really down in the dumps.
Their reasons were probably less articulate and they just needed someone important to die but all they had left to do it at that point was this generic zombie horde. If it had been through an encounter with an important character like Skorge or the Queen it would feel more meaningful because those are forces that really require that extra something to take down.
>>1844206
His friends were pinned down by an overwhelming horde of locusts. Dom could have tried to find a better way but he was intent on dying. He was always shown to be absolutely loyal to those he loved. That moment in the game, to me, means Dom was ready to see his wife again, he wanted the pain to finally stop.
>Should have done it at the end of the second game then when he was really down in the dumps
I'm fairly certain Dom was ready to kill himself in the second one after finding his wife. It wasn't until he learned that another person had taken care of Maria that made him realize that humanity still exist and it is worth saving.
This is all just my opinion though, so feel free to form and follow your own
>>1844244
I was never a fan of the Lambent coming in and stealing the thunder away from the confrontations I'd been waiting for for five years, so I just can't stomach any of the story developments that happen under the umbrella of their influence, especially Dom's end.

So, is FFXIV meta as fuck or something? Correct me if I am wrong, but those were supposed to be the poster faces from the first version of the game, the one that flopped horribly and made Square remake the entire game which is now pretty popular, making said poster faces of the game into actual characters that are disgruntled because they lost their world (aka, the first version of FFXIV) and now live in this new version?
Also, is it worth going into said game? I played a bit of it when the game was still new about...wanna say two years ago.
>>1844864
could be new version
>>1844864
I played the living shit out of this game from age like 6 through 30 and I don't remember those things
>>1837269

>>1844890
They're not meta, those remain the faces of the game. They show up in the 2.0 trailer, for example, and the main dude shows up in both the Heavensward and the Stormblood trailers.
And story wise, 1.0, the original game, still totally happened. They didn't just reset the game, they redid it and set it a couple years after the events of the first game.
But yes, I think the game is worth getting in. The post 2.0 storyline has an incredible ending if you never got to see it, and Heavensward has a great story. Stormblood's story wasn't nearly as impactful, but it had it's moments. The revamp of the combat system they did with the recent release was also pretty nice, even if it had some balance kinks. But hell, class balance only really matters to like 1% of the playerbase.

Game?
>>1853439
Since he posted my webm I guess it falls to me to explain. I was merely running the aquanaut across specific tiles to produce those squishing sounds so there's no tactics in there.
And the alien thing is typical for both X-Com games: once a hostile enters line of sight (works for both aliens and aquanauts) certain actions may trigger reaction fire. I believe first movement made my guy leave the aquatoid's vision and the last is where he saw the poor sod again.
>>1853132
Game???
>>1853439
It's the old xcom game-terror from the deep. If you chose to do missions at night then the visibility was complete dogshit and you had to equip your aquanauts with chemical flares and throw them around the map to every actually see the enemy.
But their vision was flawless. And each time you moved you had a chance to trigger a reaction shot. So with him moving around he triggered it and died.
