Imagine my face after I've realised the series went to shit somewhere halfway through the 2nd season and keep getting deeper into the shitness.

It's almost as bad as learning that they indeed were in Purgatory in LOST

Borefest: The movie.

The worst part was how the music tried sooooo fucking hard to covince you there is some suspense, but there was none.
I'm still bewildered what people find interesting in that movie. The story is boring and cliche, the characters are mostly one-dimensional and with very flat acting, there is no suspense (not to mention action) and it just drags for 30 minutes too long.
So what's the selling pitch that I've missed?

Sicario was okay... I agree it's overrated, but it has some choice moments. Good cinematography and soundtrack to boot.

What I don't understand, is what the chick is even doing in the flick. I assume she's also in the book it's based on, but she's completely inconsequential. She does nothing that alters the storyline and seems entirely shoehorned in.

I really think the flick would have been a lot grittier and more impactful without her. I'm not so /rk9/ as to accuse Hollywood jews of adding her in for the sake of a "strong womyn" lead, but I can hardly think of another reason to add her, save to prevent it looking like a drug-lord action flick. I suppose it's more likely she's there to somehow self-insert the viewer as an "normal" person, but she doesn't really fill that role either.

Would have been better from the traitor's point of view.

>It's almost as bad as learning that they indeed were in Purgatory in LOST
Kind called that one two seasons before the end - shoulda called it sooner, looking back on it, but it was pretty much the only explanation left by then.

Though I suspect they had no intention of writing themselves into that corner from season 1. This is always a hazard of this model of television, where you just keep going so long as it's profitable to do so, rather than writing out a story with a clear beginning of end ahead of time... and then switch writers somewhere in between.

At least Lost wasn't bad as a whole... If you want to see the biggest carrier of that particular sin ever - watch "Under the Dome" - which is pretty much shit from beginning to end, just in an extreme neapolitan ice cream sorta style. I swear they must have switched writers every three episodes towards the end - each new shit writer deciding to 180 the story from the last shit writer. You know you're boned when even Stephen King, the master of cheesy serial horror, says, "Fuck this shit - I'm out!"

>>
>>1568887
The pacing is not strange. It's god-awful. Strange pacing? That's what Memento has. No, I'm not talking about continuity here, but pacing.
I have a strong dislike toward films that don't understand their own pace and the pace of things on screen. Sicario has the issue of being very slow movie (not a bad thing on its own) that thinks it's fast paced movie, while the music thinks it's a suspense thriller. While it's just a generic "drug cops" flick.

>>1568932
Thing is - she's not a "strong womyn". She's fucking helpless in it. And while I get the point was to show how ruthless the guys she's working with are by comparing them with her, it ended up with making her a superflous character, just like you said.

>>1568948
I've called it in first season, and creators spend next 5 claiming that "no, no way they are in Purgatory".
So it was more about open lying to viewers than figuring out it really was Purgatory ahead of the reveal.

I know "that was the point" gets thrown around a lot but that was the point. She's supposed to be the general public, the normal person. It's supposed to show contrast between just regular guys who think taking out a couple of dudes will win the drug war; and the government and the cartel who are entities too powerful for most people to truly comprehend.

The fact that you think the movie is 'cliche' shows you didn't even really follow the movie. It's not groundbreaking in plot or whatever, but its far from cliche if you are questioning why something is how it is in the movie.
>>
>>1573513
>That thinly-veiled insult
Son, making claims "if you didn't get the movie, then you weren't watching it close enough" solves absolutely nothing. Bad movie is bad no matter how long you are going to stare at it and analyse it. And there if FUCKLOAD of things wrong with this particular one.
It's cliche, because it's yet another "badass anti-drug cops are ruthless killers that apply the same methods as the people they fight with and there is a naive newcomer character that is traumatised by such experience". This cliche is around since the fucking 80s, for crying out loud! It'd 30-odd years old plot synopsis.
That's why it's cliche. It takes to not watch movies AT ALL to not recognise all the bits and pieces making this movie or to call it NOT cliche.

And seriously, don't you ever try using shit like
>The fact that you think the movie is 'cliche' shows you didn't even really follow the movie

The Dressmaker, it's in metadata. Pretty good film if you ask me.
And no, Weaving is not playing a bad guy. In fact, he might be one of few good characters in the entire movie.
>>
>>1575602
Shame it's missing the 2nd half, where Franek gives his place of birth.
Fun fact - we made our new Chinese lecturer to say "Grzegorz Brzęczyszczykiewicz" after explaining what's it about and she nailed it at first try, while being in Poland for less than a week. Asians really are weird.

>>

is that a doc film about north korea where they smuggled a ton of uncensored footage?
>>
>>1578022
Not sure, but the best doc ever made about North Korea is Polish "The Parade". It was made when Poland was technically still a commie nation (right before the collapse of commie regime) and Koreans were dead-sure this movie is about glorification of their country and superior institutions. In fact, if you don't know anything about N-Kor, you can actually assume it's a propaganda piece.
They fucking helped to make a mockery of themselves and gave full support to the film-makers.

Well it's kind like "Slumdog Millionaire" few years aboack. Everyone went crazy about it, aside people, who watch Bollywood. Because for them it was a watered-down, badly scripted bolly-flick done by non-bollywood director.
So it's less a matter of originality and actually being good as a movie, and more about audience being underexposed to the specific genre/type of movie that suddenly got a big-budget Hollywood production for it.

I don't mind, really. I'm rather poking fun about all those infamous cases where parents were butthurt that the movie REALLY was not suited for kids below 13.
Just because it's animated doesn't make it kid friendly. But on the other hand, I remember more kids crying on Up! out of all things rather on ParaNorman.

>why it failed so bad financially
Because it was in production for almost 3 years, had to be reshot TWICE from a scratch (including even soundtrack), roughly one hour of material was left in the cutting room (which shows), the director, novel author and main executive were constantly fighting over what movie they are making (respectively an action thriller like Predator, historical fiction like the nover or fantasy flick like Willow) and worst of them all, the studio eventually decided they need to dump this fast, before it will bloat production costs by another 50 million bucks (it was made in times when "most expensive movie ever" was made under budget of what passes now as modest blockbuster), without spending a single dollar over planned budget on marketing.
In short - it went through cinemas mostly unnoticed, and since internet was still in its infancy, self-created word-of-mouth marketing didn't work out. It also didn't help it was made before LotR, so not many people were adjusted to spend 3 hours in cinemas to watch what is basically a fantasy-adventure mix, which lead to the choppy editing after trial showing to probably the biggest morons they could find for that trial screening.

In short - a movie killed by accountants and production infighting. Which is sad, since it's the only movie like this in existence. I mean can you even imagine anyone seriously making a Hollywood big-budget flick with an Arab as a main, and most importantly, positive and the most enlighted character after 9/11?

No sound, but she is putting on him cow urine ("Boiled down!" - which basically means ammonia) and when he starts complaining about lack of hygiene and putting filth on his wound, she describes the fever he will get if no treatment will be applied, so he agrees to continue.

>>1596866
Tell me about it. This and Ravenous are both criminally underrated movies, both killed by the same thing - stupid execs that couldn't handle the production in their hands and then dumping the movie without any marketing in shitty period.

Might need to make some sound webms sometime of that one.
>>
>>1597784
I've did them... not sure... last month? Something like that.
Starting with literally cutting out a sample scene (the opening dinner with bloody steaks) while rest of the movie was still downloading.

HWAS and Turbo Kid would make a great double feature.

One is a 70's Grindhouse throwback and the other is a psuedo-Grindhouse 80's throwback.

Also, can anyone point me in the direction of a war movie with more realistic combat than Dr.Strangelove? I can't seem to find one, it looks like fucking genuine war footage/

Actually it's John Carpenter's "Dark Star" you're correct about the alien though, it also died by being popped.

>>1600876
Any era, as long as it's realistic. Hell, Dr.Strangelove was made in 1964 and I consider a lot more realistic than a lot of the war movies made nowadays.

That's how you get low age ratings with MPAA - bunch of rapid cuts to not actually show any violence, even if you have bunch of people trying to kill each other. Never mind it's all bullshit excuse. MPAA itself is bullshit so it doesn't really matter
