It's got some serious heart, you've got the main kids with their distinct personalities juggling saving the world and homework, pretty much NASA backing them up with new vehicles AND even entering the fray when all seems lost led by a great mentor and then you've got Hayakawa/Megasilver, pretty much a big kid that sincerely just wants to help out and does an amazing job of it.

And of course some of the best baddies ever, sinister yet ever so tragic.

Loved every second of watching it.

It's a shame Ghost was a travesty. Necrom was pretty cool and his brace was really classy sounding. Did you make a sounded webm of just him transforming? Also, on a side note, I dislike how they're cutting some of the jingle from the Ex-Aid gashats, like how Pallad just skips to "Perfect Puzzle!" instead of doing the whole jingle. The jingle is one of my favorite things about Kamen Rider.

Kabuto is an example of what happens when you put Yonemura and Inoue on the same show, neither of whom is a good writer individually, and then they don't communicate with each other and have entirely different ideas of what the show should be about. Tsurugi's massive swings in characterization, for instance, are because one wanted him to be the cool foil to Tendou who could actually give him a decent challenge, while the other wanted him to be goofy comic relief, so which one he was depended on who was writing the episode.

I picked up Kabuto as my first Rider show back in around 2009, and while it worked to get me into the franchise, I think by comparison to almost everything after 2010 it's actually really terrible.

Where would you recommend someone who has never watched any of these shows start? Do I have to go all the way back to shit that started in the 70s?

No. There a re a lot of good shows from that era but you can get into those later.

For Kamen Rider, the shows "W", "OOO", and "Fourze" are good starting points. However you can just watch what show you think has the coolest looking main suit. It's recommended to stay away from the shows "Kiva", "Decade", "Wizard", and "Ghost", as they are not very good. The currently-airing series, Ex-Aid, is great and you should consider watching that too.

For Super Sentai, some good starting points are "Go-Busters", "Megaranger", "Zyuranger", and "Abaranger". Zyuranger is the show that would be known to the west as "Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers".

You can find download and torrent links in the OP posts of the respective generals on /m/. It's recommended to avoid "TV-Nihon" subs, for they are filled with mistranslations and have generally poor quality encodes.

Depends on who you ask about such things. I believe playing it safe/amounted to nothing is less shitty than having nice things and dumping them mid way(like in the case of Hibiki and it's major retooling/changes).
Some will say Decade, but that hatred has dropped off over the last few years in part because Decade's actor is a rider fanboy and had a lot of fun with it.
Kiva had strong parts but out of nowhere some plots/characterization were dropped on the fly.

Even the popular series do things wrong and or poorly, but some people have actually come out of things like Kiva/Wizard liking them.

I'd ultimately suggest even the shit ones once a newer fan has some experience under their belt. Helps them appreciate the better ones.
