It's the motherfucking Groundhog Day! Seriously, this film has been spoofed so many times, it's almost impossible to NOT recognise it. Hell, the concept of time loop is referred now as a "Groundhog Day scenario" in script classes for over a decade now.

>>1508686
Honest question and please answer honestly - is this trolling or you genuinely never saw Groundhog Day?
Because I'm not certain if it's one of those moments when I wonder what else kids those days never saw, after all that film is barely 25 years old
>>1509156
>Ancient movies
Neither of them, but let's think... Pulp Fiction was made in the same year. And Groundhog Day, as already stated, had so many imitations it's hard not to know it. It would literally take not watching films and TV series made past, say, '95, thus I assume, the "non-ancient" stuff.
>>1509124
Don't bother with the first two seasons save for a few episodes. Season 3 is great and the show only gets better until the end

Oh my sweet summer child. Star Wars won't die, no matter how much you hate it. Disney will keep it alive forever and ever.
>>1511924
It's not about hate, believe me. Rather just fed up. I remember the "hype" created in early 90s, before there even was the "prequel trilogy", created solely by re-releasing the original three.
Then the bullshit around prequel trilogy, so dads could bring their sons to watch it.
And currently those kids are bringing their kids for the new one.
Hence - fed up.
>>1511924
Well they've spend a literal billion on that monstrosity, just to get the rights. Then comes production. So until they release about 4 movies, it will be still considered "unprofitable".
And knowing Disney, they are going to shit out at least one per year for next decade.
>>1511944
they'll finish the new trilogy, with side movies in between. after that will come a hiatus for movies, but with a million books and tv shows and games and after like, 5 years, another trilogy, and on and on.
>>1511949
No man. This won't stop, just like cape shit is not stopping. There will grind it to the ground, simply because it's cheaper that way, to make those movies in bulk. You can get easier contracting, less hassle about sets and storage of props... Mark my words - they will make at least 5 "numbered" movies plus the fillers a la Rogue One, until people will wise up and revenue will start dropping.
Same shit as Marvel movies. Do you even remember times when they were actually enjoyable and funny? As in - for real funny, not because immersion and sunk cost fallacy investment.
The scenario at least was about "US Postal Service", fitting the theme...
God, it takes a real mastermind to pick book as good as "Postman" and make such piece of crap out of it.

>>1513649
Ravenous is definitely one of better thrillers around, especially that fucking cave scene. It was so tense it took me 2nd watching to realise the next scene is followed by wacky banjo music just to calm the fuck down audience. It hardly worked, especially since right after thre is that cliff scene.
I was planning to throw in Colqhoun's story, because it's great moment with even better music, but it would take 4 parts to get it done, as it lasts for 5 minutes and we are under 4 MB limit here.
So it was easier to just drop it, since I don't want to look like that Slav posting scene after scene from some movie

>And currently those kids are bringing their kids for the new one.
The prequel trilogy was released between 1999 and 2005. That's 12 to 18 years ago. The people seeing this latest set aren't the kids, they're just the children millennials who haven't grown up yet.
>>1514321
Simple math for you - 1999 was 18 years ago.
That means if you were a teen - age 13 to 19 - back then, then you are now between 31 to 37.
Which is a pretty normal age to have kids, and those kids closing to being teens themselves.
Which brings as back to the whole concept, you fucking moron. I mean how fucking stupid are you, on scale from one to you?

Spoilers for those who never saw the film, so don't read, as this board doesn't have spoiler option.
There is even a fan edit of the film, cutting the initial scene with the witch and then fading to black in the end when she enters the forest, rather than reachinjg the witch circle.
And it makes the film twice as good. It has nothing to do with a trope. The sole option that she - and by extension her entire family - imagined the whole thing rather than actually being attacked by real, flesh and bone witch, makes it just that more creepy. Instead of monster horror, you have one of the better psychological horrors made in years. We are talking about The Thing tier here.
Sure, in original edit this is a very, very good film, but with removal of just two scenes, it leaves MUCH more to imagination, being that much scary.
Remeber The Descent? How genuinely scary it was for the first hour, even if there were no monsters and just character interaction? And how it became almost laughable when finally the monsters showed up, because rather than imagining things, you were watching them, thus making the fear go off, as it just turned into round the mill monster horror from extremely claustrophobic experience about being lost in a cave.

bravo Tarantino
>>1517478
And that's a problem... how?
>>1517500
shoehorned sound effects that make no sense don't bother you?
>>1517513
No, because I'm a normal, fully-adjusted grown up. And there are two perfectly reasonable ways to solve the existence of the cat sound effect:
1) Joke referring such cats in spaghetti westerns, and this is Tarantino's take on western, so go fucking figure
2) It's called "implying". You imply existence of the cat without showing it, but by adding sound effect of it.
The cat plays no role in the story. It might run away, it might hole somewhere. It doesn't matter. Meanwhile, the sound is FUNNY, which is the main reason why it's put there, followed by making the scene more life. After all, a sleepy cat in a wagon station that gets startled is one of the things building the atmosphere. And wasting camera time to follow it while a motherfucking shoot-out is going around would be fucking pointless.
tl;dr - 'tism is strong in you, logical reasoning is not.
>>1511785
What are the pretty obvious reasons? I have no idea what this film even is.

>>1517513
Son, how many films you saw in your life? I'm betting you can actually count them. And I'm betting that would be less than... say, 500 titles. Meaning you didn't saw enough to even speak up about basic film-making tricks, especially those you obviously don't understand.
You don't need to show things in a film for them to be there, especially if there is some reason to don't show them. In fact, not showing things, but making audience convinced those things are in the movie is what differs good craftsmanship from lack of skills. It's a magician trick, only applied differently - the film crew convinces you to believe in things they want you to believe. It's like that famous suicide in the end of Shawshank Redemption. We never actually SEE Norton shooting himself or blowing his brain on the wall and ceiling behind him. And yet you are dead sure he did so.

It's worse than that. If you happen to be Catholic, it's pretty offensive on the bare basis of going against the basic fucking teaching and NAME of the Church. As in - catholic, thus common, universal. So instead of being a typical "evil corrupt church that is rotten to the core" you've got a story about a seriously messed up guy being miraculously elected for Pope just to get plot going and then watch him torch the entire structure in the name of his vision. Quickly goes from darkly hilarious to darkly apathetic and then just plain unwatchable.
Said that, go see for yourself first two episodes. If you won't like it after those, then you won't like the rest. If you like those, you will stop liking it around 7th episode, so you will probably just watch the rest, because you've already downloaded it

>>1515025
I humbly disagree. The Babadook does a great job of selling the idea that it might be all in the mom's head and I hate it. I'm not interested in "we were the monsters all along!". It's been done to death. Monster movies have been done to death too, but I find it really frustrating to watch people freak themselves out when there's no real danger. Black Swan pissed me off especially. The trailer shows feathers growing out of this woman's skin and I was like "holy shit this looks awesome", I was ready for some weird supernatural shit. No, just a girl freaking out. Nothing happens in the genre, people just get upset and hurt themselves.
You mention The Thing. I mean, that monster existed in the movie. The Witch is a great monster movie and does the devil extremely well. I love it :3
>>1522787
>I'm not interested in this
>Any horror that is actual horror and not monster story is shit
Kys
And tell me - were you afraid in The Thing of the monster, with which they dispatch pretty easily each and every time or about the possibility that they might no longer be human? Because if the first one, then I advise you - go watch the remake/prequel from few years aback. A perfect movie for people like you.
I literally don't give a fuck about your preferences. Thing is - The Witch works better as a psychological horror about all the problems brought by cabin fever, isolation and malnourishment than a monster story about actual, flesh and bone witches. That final scene with flying brings absolutely NOTHING to the plot and undermines what could be a truly epic ending, regardless if witch was real or not. Her going naked into woods implies a fuckload of things, while her walking naked into woods followed with explaination what happend next ruins the ending completely. It's like that joke about BWP, where there was supposed to be a scary monster in the end, but they've broke the camera and ended up with no ending, so decided to spin the marketing for it anyway.
