I feel like /wg/'s tastes have been developing lately. I think the vaporwave threads have influenced some new wallpaper styles, more digital and with eye for composition.
Post recently picked up papes and discuss recent trends you've noticed!
But try to avoid phrases like 'all this new garbage is pretentious shit'

I made some dumb piece of shit OC for one of those threads in less than 5 minutes and people actually saved it. I have no idea what the appeal of that shit is. Vaporwave's pretty good though, so long as it's not too over the top. I wish we'd get more movie stills though.

What's this kind of style called? It's charming, in a way.

not sure which one you mean, but...
black&white film still
or
80's graphic design

I can see why they saved it, nice contrast, both strong lines as well as figurative stuff, the image is vague and suggestive but not enough to obscure the characters.
You can accidentally make a gem in 5 minutes, and I think recent vaporwave and digital corruption threads have made it more appealing for people to try it.
