Get wallpaper you like
I like this one
Easier to show you what my desktop looks like than to actually go forth and explain everything. (ps my toolbar at the bottom is auto-hide, thats why I mouse over it)
Now mind you, I'm no expert at modifying your desktop and what not, but I do like my minimalistic and clean look.
Let me know if you have questions.
Get rid of all your Steam shortcuts, they're pointless since you can just open them from Steam. If you play them frequently, you can just bind the Steam icon so that it doesn't get hidden in the popup arrow and you can right click to see your recently played games. Take the rest of your icons and divide them into labeled folders, then make or get icons to customize the folders. Don't put the folders on the side, line them up against the top or bottom (or both). Programs that you use frequently you should bind to the start menu.
Still needs some improvements though.
It's like a faster version of 7 with all sorts of useless shitty bells and whistles.. best part is you can disable all that shit and It'll run even faster.
Put Wallpapers folder in the Pics folder, GFX, bo3 guns, Game Cracks, and Mw2 Gun Sounds should be merged into a folder called Games or some shit like that, Dark Anime in Text Files, and that put that damn picture in that picture folder
I just recently built this so I haven't gone crazy with skins or anything but you can hide the trash can too to make it cleaner. I never liked using icons on my desktop. Prefer a cleaner look myself.
>inb4 internet explorer, I need it for work unfortunately
Depends on how you use the Start menu. I use it frequently to launch Steam games and specific functions of applications, so Classic Start's customization is nice. But it's not necessary, and if you don't need it then it's better not to bother with it.
Thanks man. The trash is hidden from the desktop and I have it pinned with my quick access folders in the file explorer. I know it's sometimes more convenient to have them on the desktop but if I'm being completely honest, I had a MacBook for a long period of time in college so I'm used to treating the desktop different just inherently and I end up treating the taskbar more like a Mac's dock whereas most Windows users use the desktop as their launch pad for apps.
Same. I personally love using Bins to stick everything I use on a daily basis onto my taskbar and group them there. Keeps my desktop clean, looks neat and I can launch/jump to all of them via keyboard commands by memory now.
With true transparent taskbar(classic shel)
4Gb of Wallpapers changing every minute
yours looks a lot better then mine, then again this is my work PC. It needs a good cleaning, it seems like everyone here likes plain jane setups with minimal icons to get more out of you wallpaper. You may also look into Rainmeter to add a little funk to your desktop they have a lot of different themes as well. Hope this helps OP (:
Rainmeter is pretty cool, this is my desktop with no music, and with music playing
wow, why u need to much apps on ur right, close useless shit u don't use dude, check mine
>get rid of all the icons including bin
>get better wp (/wg/)
>(dont know if this is possible) change taskbar color to match the wp
>make taskbar as minimal as possible
>setup hotkeys for all the programs you use
why have chrome on the task bar and the homescreen? pin some stuff to taskbar and everything else to start menu or whatever (the windows button)
It's possible because I did it, and then have multiple wallpapers in a folder and my home screen changes every 2 minutes with a matching task bar
decided to change my background.
i have a problem with the name of what song is playing not showing, it just says N/A N/A

>Delete all your icons

>Get a real background image
>Maybe stop sucking so much cock
Holy shit man that's a bad desktop...
Follow these steps to desktop like a pro:
1... Hide Cortana, show all tray icons and close all the ones you don't absolutely need.
2... Get that shit off your desktop. Delete the steam game links and use steam to launch them, put some of that shit in your documents, pictures, music folders, etc... Pin anything you need quick access to on your taskbar, anything else can be pinned to your start menu. Leave the recycle bin ONLY.
3.. Lurk on /wg and /w, browse wallhaven for a few days, and get yourself a healthy collection of 100+ papes with the appropriate aspect ratio for your monitor. Set them to autorotate ever X minutes.
Well done, your desktop doesn't look like a toddler's anymore.
Here's a pape to get you started...
Still working on it. I'll be removing more shit from the actual desktop. I wanna do some things like classic shell >>6454642 and this
Lower will either look worse or have black filler space. Only use 1080p pictures or higher resolution, never lower. If you really like a picture, try using Google Image Search to find a higher-res copy.
how is mine? I built this little cutie at for christmas and School.
perfect. Wish more stock windows users did this.
Thanks for this man, installed last night on my backup linux laptop and love it. I never loved default ubuntu but every theme I ever saw was even more garish.
Can i have a clean version of your wallpaper please? I find it absolutly beautiful
Yup, i only use for play and inet.. can't edit on this pc.. btw i change wall and bar transparency
I like the minimalist look but a better desktot is more of a functional desktop then anything else op.
I love that wallpaper.
Cute icons, too.
Can I join in, any advice on how to make this better?
Need to have a look for better high res wallpapers.
Hide taskbar, and either hide the icons or put them in a folder, away from the desktop. Remove recycle bin and whatnot. Get Rainmeter, download a few rainmeter skins, edit them however you like, and you're set
Actually guys I need help as well. I use ubuntu and I tried running rainmeter on wine. But it's way too buggy. I have no idea what to do
Can anyone help me remove the outline on my browser so its either invisible or completely removed?
>>Remove all icons
>>Use small taskbar
>>Remove program labels from taskbar
>>Put all the program icons on the bottom right of the taskbar into the system tray
>>Remove the task view and Cortana buttons
>>Only pin programs you use frequently (not the Windows store n' shit)
>>If your keyboard has macro buttons then bind them to launch programs that you removed the icons for
Attached is my desktop for an example
a friend of mine sent me this one and a bunch that were coloured differently
i also found these
Anyone have any experience with RainMeter?
I am same guy as >>6459928 and see attached how my desktop is now looking, but that white bar should be allowing me to edit file locations (like steam) and have clickable text (was hoping to find an all in one package but can't) but it doesn't seem to work, I know my default locations Steam is C:/Steam/Steam.exe but never seems to accept it and add it to the bar.
If anyone has any suggestions for icons I could use instead please do link for me.
I went from looking like OP to this, so ty for this thread
What about mine? This is with the launcher hidden and the launcher active. (Glorious Master Launcher for Rainmeter)
I'm looking for weather and diagnostic widgets. Know where I can get some good ones?
what are the widgets that is in that picture
I'm stuck with this basic ass thing from Windows 7
I'm trying to make my desktop look clean too but I have a problem with the slideshow. I have 2 monitors and the slideshow doesn't display the same wallpapers on both of the monitors. It shows 2 different wallpapers on the monitors and it's fucking annoying.
Help me here, Anons!
Moved things around, but can't help but notice how much of an eyesore them icons are.
Any suggestions on ones that will be more fitting of space theme'd wallpapers?
Get rid of the search bar.
Hide the trash bin and download Minibin.
Clear your taskbar and put all your icons in the Start menu. If there's too many that you use often, put them in a folder and put that folder in your documents, then right click the taskbar > select "Unlock". Right click the taskbar again > go to "Taskbar" > "New Taskbar" and select the folder you put your stuff in. Drag the new taskbar shortcut all the way to the right and lock your taskbar again.
