It doesn't look that bad to get the basics outline done for her actually. The main problem I see is getting the armor to look like distinct parts instead of just a lumpy arm/boot/shoulder. If/when I finish Riela I can give it a shot.

HSB is best actually, in my experience at least. Almost everyone uploads PNGs, which use RGB, so in the end it doesn't really matter as illustrator should just take care of that when you export/save for web.

It's actually a layer underneath the bangs color, not an object on top. This is a retarded way of doing it, but it's because I was planning on doing it a different way but changed my mind. Hopefully this is a bit better.

Very nice gradient. One problem you have though is the line goes off her clothes by her waist. The easiest way to fix this that I know of is to select the line then go Objects -> Path -> Outline Stroke. Once it's a shape, you can just use shapebuilder tool to crop off the bit that goes off. Also, it looks like the armpit line goes over the purple bit. Other than that looks good.

so I still have to fix the fingers and there are a few hair nodes that are off, but mainly I want to ask you about colors. across the other art I've looked up the head crystal has been somewhere from green to blue and his body somewhere between light gray and dark purple. hell even his hair is almost orange in half of them. do you have any preference/corrections to the colors?

Export at a much higher resolution (300/600 PPI) and complete the top of the head since it is easy to do. If you're not going to include that highlight on her dress above her left leg, then you need to complete the yellow design as if it terminated properly. You also have a small piece of gray coloring on her right hand that shouldn't be there.

I already read WA2 and it's great. I wanted to download WA1 VN but it's not available everywhere except AB so I'm waiting until freeleech to download it.

The anime for WA1 is fine. The first season of WA1 anime might feel stupid but bear through it because the second season is where things make sense more. The anime for WA2 can't go wrong because it's basically introductory chapter adapted.

I suggest you read WA2 if you can into moonrunes or just watch the anime if you can't and hope for translation of closing+coda. As for WA1 your only option is anime unless you want to buy the game.

I prefer Ogata Rina than Morikawa Yuki in WA1 but I prefer Touma Kazusa than Ogiso Setsuna in WA2. Some people might find that weird but eh that's my preference.

I see what you mean about the arm looking like a stump. Is there a way to just being out the lines in the coat, so it saves you having to do lines everywhere else and emphasises the arm is tucked into the coat? Other than that it's almost perfect except is there a way to make the beard present? Or nah because the face colouring. Either way I'm very happy with it.

Just make a new project in GIMP or Photoshop that's the size you want your wallpaper to be. Have a solid color as one layer, and have the vector be in another layer above it. Resize the vector so it fits in the canvas (make sure to preserve scale when you do so it doesn't get distorted). Export as a PNG and you have your wallpaper.

Not him but just a few things I noticed.

Flower nodes could be a lot cleaner. You might also want to experiment with including the dot in the middle and/or a yellow-white gradient. Some of the hair curvatue is a little strange looking, I'd recommend playing with it a bit so it looks more natural. Part of the eyelash extends to far. I would crop it off so it tapers faster and ends sooner. Some spots your orange background creeps over her. The sleeve also is missing part of it. Even if you used a different image as a source and that's how it should look, you should still touch it up so the nodes are less sharp. The zipper should also probably be a gray but you could argue that it's fine as is because style.

It's nice background though. Touch up some nodes and pointy bits and it'll look great.

I thank you. I am quite happy with the result myself. Especially since it took like 5-6 hours. Usually I can make these in 30 minutes, but toying around with shadowing and gradients sure did take some time.
Secondscreening some anime did make it more manageble though.

hey so just a few things. you missed her right black piece (blue circle) as well as a piece of her hair by her left eye. other cirlces are where theres some overlap issues like where her collar meets the left black strap. some of your hair tips don't flow all that well. and then just work on smoothing out your nodes. There are places on the body, I circled a few, where its to easy to see exactly where the node is, especially since they are relatively straight sections. try to go back and mess with the handles to smooth it out more.

biggest thing I see is that you have way to many nodes, for example where the hair curls in the bottom left. In general the nodes could be smoother but you should be able to do all curves in one, maybe two nodes. It's kinda hard to tell at this resolution but I think the same applies to the tray behind her back. way to many nodes. In general I really like it, it just looks jagged.

There are a few instances of color peeking and the skin tone is a little dark, but there are more fundamental problems here.

1. Too many nodes. For all vectors, but especially minimalist ones, you want to have as few nodes as possible. Knowing where to place them takes practice, but think of it as a challenge of how few you can use to get the curve correct. This will prevent things from becoming jagged.

2. Lines should have a consistent width. Rather than tracing out both ends, just trace the middle and use a stroke. This will keep the width consistent and will look better. likewise, for parallel lines, just copy paste so it's the exact same curve and distance in between is preserved.

3. Frills looks sloppy. Frills look really nice when done well, but can easily ruin an otherwise good vector. Take your time here, do not rush it.

This looks really nice from a distance, but if you make these changes it would look a lot better zoomed in too.

There are a few fuckups scattered about (a few instances of color peeking) that I've pointed out.

Just so you know I haven't forgotten about this. I just haven't had a lot of time to work on any vectoring. Turns out I used the curvature tool so the nodes were straight cancer. I've spent my time redoing everything from scratch. It's still not perfect but it'll be much easier to fix things.

I've played around with a few different designs for the shield and sword but everything has looked like shit so far. Here's what I've got without the sword and shield. Hopefully I can work something out for the rest and start on Imca.

Alright, there are a couple of nodes that need a little fixing. The ear looks a bit weird in the minimalist version. Maybe try to indicate that the hair is blocking it. Otherwise it looks like a cut off ear. As for the colors, I would find some official art as a replacement, unless you prefer it that way of course. Otherwise a nice job for a first atempt.

I absolutely disagree. Your coloring went from dark orange tinted coloring to very pale white tinted coloring, with one being no better than the other. Anime screencaps are notorious for having a white tint over its coloring, making them a poor and pale choice for coloring. Your best bet is to find fanart with more neutral coloring. Then, you make smaller adjustments to Saturation/Brightness in the HSB scale. This of course comes with practice, but is absolutely required.

While official art may be easier, it's also simpler in its design. Fanart gives you more options in terms of styles and personality than official art can. This may hold less in minimalist images, considering you lose the face (which makes the image lose any character), but you are still hampering yourself if you ignore fanart due to "difficulty." This image was hardly difficult in terms of its lineart and is actually good practice in how you may need to make adjustments to make it look crisper and cleaner, which applies even to anime screencaps.

Getting on to what your image lacks, the biggest issue is the lack of direction and flow for the hair. The tips are flat and stagnant. You need to use the handles at the tips of the hair to curve them in a certain direction so that the hair curves and flows properly. For the eye on the shirt, you need to properly match each part of the eye so it flows properly from top to bottom. The top eye is also supposed to be a darker color. The left stripe should be under the strap, and the right stripe should go to the skin.

Overall, it is better than most first vectors, so good job. Do a couple more with these principles in mind and you should be well on your way to making good vectors.

Putting a small stroke around the ribbons would help set them off from the leg more. Especially the ribbon on the right leg looks like a part of her boots right now.

Well, no, you don't just remove the hair strand. You can very easily fill it in since you have the entry and exit points already done for you. Draw the fill as a separate shape and follow the shape from the entry point to the exit point. Place handles in the outer areas where necessary, in order for it to follow the shape to the end. You can then unite it after you have it done if you so desire, or make it a compound path so you can keep them separate but still apply colors across all of the hair as one shape.

I'd say change the colors to be brighter. Right now it looks kind of muddled, which happens when you're using the tones of the original.

Keep the skin a lighter tone, keeping its contrast with the rest of the colors. Also round out that bend in the back of the knee, don't make it end on a node.

Couple things. You need to use less nodes for the longer pieces of hair. Only place nodes at the beginning and at the tips, and then adjust the handles so they fulfill their given area. Do not overextend handles, especially at tips, as you flatten the area and lose curvature. It is very important that you keep the tips of hair curved so that the hair does not appear blotchy or flat. Keep the curvature, and then place nodes in between to fulfill the areas that the handles could not achieve.

It is also much smarter to keep certain shapes as separate objects, especially if two different strands of hair cross each other. If you try to draw them as one shape, you will create very awkward shapes that look lumpy and inconsistent where the two pieces cross. Instead, draw them as separate shapes so that they cross properly. You can unite them later at the end, or select all the shapes and make them a compound path to keep them separate, but apply a color or gradient across it as one object.

For the skirt lines, you need to keep the thickness between the shapes much closer together. Even though it is fairly messy in the original, that messy style becomes much more apparent in a vector format. Keep the thickness and the curvature of the shapes consistent so they flow as best as possible. You also have some clipping issues. Make sure that you have the fills cross each other so that you don't see the coloring underneath in between. There are also a couple areas where those fills do not go to the edge of the skirt, or go past it. If you're using Illustrator, then go to the tutorial in the OP and learn how to use the Shape Builder tool. It will help with that kind of situation.

Otherwise it is not too bad. Get a better handle of how to make your lineart smooth and consistent and your images will start looking better.
