What is this? It looks familiar, like I could have played it.
>>2944027
What game is this?
>>2944154
Xexyz
I see this posted every so often, but rarely see any love. Great game!

Jurassic Park

The soundtrack in this game was great
I liked it, and not because of that "still the best" creepypasta from a couple years back, I actually had this as a kid.
I admit I never got very far, but god damn it, it was a fucking GODZILLA vidya.
What is the name of a NES platformer kind of game where you controlled some sort of weird fat kid and the first level is running through a forest and iirc there are some snakes as enemies. I might be mistaken but I think he threw rocks as an attack. Also I remember you could grab a skateboard upgrade and he'd ride until he tripped. Then the second stage is on some kind of beach and you hop on some platform clouds that fall when you stand in them too long.
His moving animation looked like a sideways march, anyway that's how I remember, the game was weird but fun.

ADVENTURE ISLAND FEATURING MASTER HIGGINS
Formula 1 Built to win. my favorite nes racer. overworld map, multiple cars and upgrades, boost, day and night courses. maybe even betting, its been a long time.

Good list
also 2 awesome japan-only games that are absolutely worth playing: Kaiketsu Yanchamaru 3 and Mitsume ga tooru (aka 3 eyed one).
Also the Ganbare Goemon games, Ganbare Goemon 2 has a fan translation in english.
>>2944652
>no Destiny of an Emperor
Better than any of the games on the list that are RPGs (loved Magic of Scherezade, tho)
Asterix and The Smurfs. Nice visually, decent gameplay and awesome soundtrack. They are not perfect, certainly no unique, but these qualities alone make them stand above most other games.

So many idiots shit on the Godzilla games because they don't get them, but they are really good. I think those strategy games were a genius idea. The Game Gear game is also great.
>>2944652
It is known. I don't know what Star Wars is doing in there. It shit in on itself already, but especially in comparison to the other games in there.
Ai Senshi Nicol. The controls and jumping are so tight.
>>2944070
>Lust ritual
Criminally underrated game.
>>2945871
Just looked into this game. Never heard of it. Looks rad, going to check it out for sure.
>>2945809
Loved the co-op in this game back when. There should be more multiplayer platformers.
>>2944652
What the fuck is Bio Force Ape? I've never heard of it.
R.C. Pro-Am II, really feels like a step up from the original
>>2946035
An unreleased NES game that had some memes about it, like the German butter guy. Somebody found the game a few years back and dumped it on the net. The animation and graphics are nice but its level design is lacking.
>>2944242
I don't think I ever managed to finish it, interesting game overall, and the plot twist was kinda fresh for its age. I think it was easy to get stuck, tho, since you could move around freely in the unlocked zones.
>>2945434
I like the Star Wars videogame myself. It's a pretty well done tie-in.
Super Spy Hunter
Megami Tensei II
The Adventures of Dino Riki
Meikyuu Jiin Dababa
>>2944072
is this the one with the evil elephant in jammies?
>>2945434
>So many idiots shit on the Godzilla games because they don't get them
also AVGN did a Godzilla games episode, so a lot of things that think they are people now know without playing those games that they are bad games
yeah Godzilla NES is pretty odd and silly and messy, but it's also fun and good
>>2944571
great game the sound is pretty bad though

It's in the chart, but seriously no love for Clash at Demonhead? I don't even care if Scott Pilgrim was your first introduction to the game. I play it at least once a week after work and it's my favorite NES game by far.
>>2947787
I do, I love Godzilla and the NES game is pretty good.
It's at least much better then the turd that was recently released on PS3/PS4.
I really liked Q Boy's concept but it's by Sachen.
>>2947845
The problem with Clash at Semenhead is the dense and obtuse map system you NEED to learn to play it properly until you get le warp... That's a high concrete wall for beginners to climb.
Magic of Scheherezade, my high melatonin peers!
>>2944652
>Whomp'em
never heard of this one before. Just played it a bit. Sloppy moves, but overall a nice little platformer (some monster/background design are neat, I like how the spear can be used as a shield & attack in several direction); kinda like an inferior Little Samson, without the multiple character.
https://youtu.be/DbBEAJfaJfo
Pitfall 2, way ahead of its time
Tetrastar https://youtu.be/_O8ZulIfXgo
>>2947939
What's with the meme language? And nah, it's more like a small chain link fence. The only thing you need to know is the password for the bomb at the end.
>>2945434
>Asterix and The Smurfs
My brain initially processed this as one game. They do both live in France...
>>2948672
>Asterix and The Smurfs
it would be such a nice comix crossover tho
(aslo Smurfs are from Belgium)
Robo Warrior https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fWYK0Vzv654
Spent so much playing it as a kid, the theme is in my brains until I'll die... I have never managed to finish it ofc
>>2949238
I hated this game when I was a kid. Probably because of the difficulty but also because it seemed crude and ugly compared to where a lot of NES games were at the time I played it (90/91).
Only right now do I see that it's basically action Bomberman. (a series I got to know and like much later than the NEs days)
>>2946247
Technically a tapir, but yes.
>>2948684
I don't think so. The best crossover would be Tintin and Spirou. That would really work.
>>2947726
I love NES games that really utilized the darker color palette. The purple is gorgeous.
i think this one is called super 3 grea t game no one ever mention it
>>2950030
would it kill you to shitpost with the NES version?
>>2944652
would really recommend StarTropics. Sort of a Zelda-type adventure straight from Nintendo
Pretty fun with a friend
>>2945809
Look, sometimes some crimes go slipping in the trash for good reason.
>>2950971
This, definitely. It's a shame that they didn't make the sequel on the SNES, it would have sold so much better.
>>2950971
I'm partial to The Guardian Legend myself. Zelda style overworld, with bosses around and weapon gathering, and space shooter stages. Some pretty cool weapons, too.
no love for Totally Rad?
...
OK it's a generic platformer/Megaman-like, but some sprites have such an original design! https://youtu.be/E4zfEVP4zAc
>>2952481
The starting head to head xlr8tion
Ninja Crusaders
Pretty much a ninja gaiden rip off, but each weapon type you could turn into a different animal which was awesome as a kid. Also, 2-player co-op and great music.
A fairly large amount of Natsume's library is underrated.
It's not underappreciated between people who know it, but does anyone remember that one NES gem, where you like throw stars and can climb onto'm, it's a hard game but well loved for it's attention to detail.
>>2955196
Just remembered, it was called Gimmick.
>>2955321
Gimmick has become quite well known in recent years, similar to little samson both were pretty unknown to most people but both have a large fanbase of people who always mention it in nes threads. Gimmick is a fantastic game though, too bad I'm too shit to get the best ending.
What are some other platformers like Gimmick and Chameleon Twist that have unique movement gimmicks
>>2956868
Sonic, Rocket Knight, Umihara Kawase, Bionic Commando
I have always loved this one and I would gladly own it if it wasn't rare
If you like Balloon Fight
>>2957432
Wait just a god damned second. Is that a copy of the gameboy balloon kid game or is the game boy game the rip off.
>>2956868
Kirby's ofc
Duck Tales
Mitsume ga Tooru
>>2957432
The 2nd Kerropi game is good too.

>>2944652
Really glad Rygar is on there. It really is a good game.
>>2944652
Pool of Radiance....? Really??
>>2948021
That's a real neat looking background
>>2950971
I just gave this a whirl on emulation. It's quite nice. I died on the first boss though, and was a bit peeved at having to kill all the enemies in every room just to open the doors again. The movement is a bit clumsy as well.
I'll stick at it for now though.
I really digged this video game... unluckily I'm basically the only person who I know played it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bvNKMqYv5eU
Are Journey to Silius and Metal Storm under appreciated enough, 'cause they rock. That Silius sound track.
Joy Mech Fight, the best fighting game for the Famicom with the biggest roster for a fighting game at the time (until KoF became a thing).

>>2944027
The Guardian Legend.
Like Zelda? 1942 / Raiden / Gradius/R-Type?
This is all up in ur guts.
My personal fave NES game. Stellar music, speed, decent gfx. Great gameplay!
Series as a whole is overlooked. Probably because it never reached America.

Low G Man.

Crystalis.
Probably my favorite ARPG. The music, story, combat, and items are all amazing for their time. I think it blows most 2D Zeldas out of the water.

best NES homebrew incoming (no idea if it's unappreciated or not) :
>Blade Buster
Bonus point for being a caravan shooter.
>>2962687
shit nigga that looks amazing
does it play better than recca?
>>2965427
hell yes: no flickering at all! Pure frenetic action from the start (2 modes only: 2 or 5 minutes). Also, the soundtrack is quite nice.
>>2965456
> no flickering at all!
recca had flickering?
I remember it was praised exactly because it handles many objects at time with no slowdowns and flickering, or I'm mistaking?
>>2957185
Buy a chinese multicart.
>>2965468
you're mistaken, recca definitely has sprite flicker when it gets too many on screens. but yeah there's no slowdown.
>>2957915
It's balloon kid. With hello kitty. Made by Nintendo released bya subsidiary of Nintendo that has since closed down. Why? I dunno, Japan.
>>2960484
Whoa! I've had a distinct nagging memory of renting this game from my childhood and could never remember the name. At last I know.
>>2944027
Still the funnest casino game.
>>2944027
Quirky funky twee hipster game before Earthbound or Mother.
Localized before either, too.
>>2957185
>Snow Bros is rare
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaand now I'm pissed that I don't still have my cart. Fuck. I traded it in a LONG time ago when it was functionally worthless. One of my favorite games, too. Fuck, now I'm seriously pissed about this.
One of the few fishing games that I've seen people who don't care about fishing enjoy.
The NES port of Smash TV is neat. One of the control schemes is to hold 2 controllers vertically and play with each D-Pad. It works pretty well.
The NES pinball games are cool too. I like Rock'n Ball and Roller Ball. Plain old blackbox Pinball is probably still my favorite.
Rampart is fun with a friend, but I'm not sure how the NES version compares to other ports. So is the hammer golf game from Crash n the Boys Street Challenge.
>>2970683
forgot pic. Conquest of the Crystal Palace is great too.
>>2970683

This game is pretty cool, hard as balls and the music is good old Konami stuff.
I remember only beating it once, some of the levels are a bit much.

I thought those were the only two versions.

There's a pretty neat bug I remember endlessly screwing around with as a kid.
You can walk through walls by dropping your teleporter against a wall and teleporting into the wall over and over.
If you go off screen in a direction you're not supposed to, you can end up in weird places.
>>2976703
Found this game recently.. It is pretty fucking sweet. Mixture of Mega man, contra and a little bit of Batman. Only thing is it is a bit confusing to navigate through the levels
>>2946075
Oh, shit...good memories. Bio Force Ape was its name. I go back a ways as a Digital Press poster. It went from a "should I release this in ROM form to the public" to a purportedly smashed cart (hoax) to brilliantly fabricated screenshots of the "dur butter monster". You had to be a forum regular to get the "dur butter" "2k monies" "eat communism", etc. jokes. It was parody perfection. Once again, those were some good times.
>>2980034
I actually cleaned the picture quality up on the screen shots for both the "I am dur butter" and the "eat communism" screenshots and made my own personal black 2-sided t-shirt. Still my favorite t-shirt, and those in the know who run into me irl shit bricks when they see me in it.
