TL:DR:
>Complete all Trainer Challenges to get 45 free packs (use Cheat Engine's speedhack to speed up AI games)
>Play through using Basic decks to unlock them for versus play.
>Farm Versus Mode theme ladder for Tokens and Tournament Tickets.
>Enter tournaments to get TRADABLE chests and packs.
>DON'T OPEN THEM.
>Trade them for the cards you actually want for a deck you want to build.
>Public trade is like the GTS, if you want proper results, put up your own offers.

What themedeck should I buy?
>Buy the Lunala one.

To see what your PTCGO stuff is worth, look on the forums in the trading section. Trading companies overprice cards, aim lower. Keep pack value in mind when trading.

You asked for good decks, not cheap ones. VirGenCel is BDIF, so if you can cough up the packs for the Celebis you'll roll. Here's my Weavile Eggs build, Computer Search and Smeargle are the only really pricey parts, and Smeargle is optional and you could always play Life Dew over Comp Search with Junk Arms to pull it back.

By God, I love this deck...
>>
The trade board is kinda cool but it's still a pain in the ass to get specific cards you need. It'd be nice if I could like trade in the 20 charmanders I have for a booster or something.
>>
>>33453765
I'd love it more if Tropical Beach wasn't Fuckexpensive. I saw an old post about Tropical Beach price when it first rotated, talking about it dropping to 19 packs and calling that 'still pretty expensive'. Still hoping we get a reprint next year, but I guess they decided a Worlds promo that was actually decently useful was too much.
>>
I've recently got back into the cards (trying to collect a pokedex of cards) and in each pack there's a code with stuff for the online card game. I'm debating wether or not to get into it, bc Pokemon already takes up so much of my time (main series games, the duel app, etc), so can someone tell me if it's worth it? Give a general feel of the game? Thanks in advance
>>
>>33453785
>Still hoping we get a reprint next year, but I guess they decided a Worlds promo that was actually decently useful was too much.

Pretty much, a few Worlds-winning decks also packed it as well.

>I'd love it more if Tropical Beach wasn't Fuckexpensive. I saw an old post about Tropical Beach price when it first rotated, talking about it dropping to 19 packs and calling that 'still pretty expensive'.

Whoever posted that was an idiot, the main two reasons why Champions' Festival is so cheap is due its terrible effect and the fact that it's more accessible due to the code cards included in World Championship Decks.
>>
>>33453785
If they actually made that the promo every year it wouldn't be nearly so expensive, they've really screwed the pooch by replacing it with useless ones, the price will only get higher until they ban it from expanded which is also a stupid solution since it's not a broken card at all, just a hard to get one.

>>33453837
The online codes in the WC decks don't actually give you the cards, just deck box, sleeves and coin. I'm holding out hope that, with TPCi showing more official support for Expanded this year, we might see a Best of BW set, reprints that don't alter the legality, like they did for XY, even if we didn't see most of Best of XY outside Japan.
>>
>>33453933
>The online codes in the WC decks don't actually give you the cards, just deck box, sleeves and coin.

That's really odd, I could've sworn I got mine by redeeming a Worlds Championships 2013 deck code card.

IIRC, that's only true for Palace format and that format has some odd rules.

How goes the Greninja revival efforts?
>>
>>33454716
The Vivid box and sleeve sets were only available for Gems for a short time years ago, so there's hardly any copies in circulation. The Victini ones will fetch the equivalent of thousands of packs.

>>33454707
What's Palace format?
>>
>>33454945
A format that allows cards from DP-on, but certain cards have a point value of 1 to 4 and you are only allowed 4 points total in your deck.
>>
>>33454945
It's basically DP-on but it has some restrictions. The way it works is like this...

>Build a 60-card deck.
>Certain cards have a point value between 1 and 5, your deck cannot exceed 4 points. Cards that have a point value of 5 are banned from the format.

And here are the point values...

1 point
>Unown R (Legends Awakened 77)
>Azelf (Legends Awakened 19)
>Stark Mountain (Legends Awakened 135)
>Poké Drawer + (Stormfront 89)

Weavile is budget, but warning the animations for eggs takes forever you have to ask really ask yourself if those 20 minutes of pure card animations were worth the win. Celebi/Genesect is overrated. You lose to any 1 prize attacking deck, which there are plenty of. 6 prizes while they only need 3 ex knockouts, believe me the deck is good but outclassed by 1 prize attackers. The best thing about the deck is it can set up on your first turn (going 2nd) and take KOs before the opponent sets up.

>>33453779
might be able to trade those 20 charmanders for 1 chest. good luck getting a booster for them however.

>>33453785
They were dirt cheap during new pack releases. Could pick them up with 10 flashfire/furious fist/phantom forces for the first release week yhpe. If they wanted to make money, they could make an alternate reprint of Tropical Beach, that way its not standard legal but people can get copies to play with. That said without a reprint it will only get much more expensive. Its one of the few items in game worth investing in.

>>33453820
Online game will possess your soul, go back mortal.

>>33455620
>>33453435
Trade interface is so fucking garbage. Just spam 8 hour trades so nobody can load the 24-48 hour trades that way you get prime advertisment space for being active, throwing offers incessantly hourly while the newer ones might as well not exist. They need to ban all the alternate account abusers as well. Infinite tokens makes it impossible to trade fairly versus those guys. They dont even hide the alternate account abuse, have names like "alt069", "freetokensguy" "whydidUbanme" etc.

Anyone have a Noivern GX decklist or any ideas for one post-rotation? I was running it and doing very well competing with tier 1 decks before.

previous builds i was running were koko promo+magearna+eveelutions+espeon ex and koko promo+magearna+garbotoxin+espeon ex

I don't think no DDE is going to be as big of a hit to the deck as people think; being unable to attach DDE to noibat limited how fast i could charge one up to being the same amount of turns or slower than normal energies would be, unless i had a turn 1 wally. the main way i see it limiting the deck is by making acerola weaker.

Opinions on this Volc/Turt build? I'm trying to make the Gardevoir match-up a bit more fair.

Pokemon - 11
x2 - Volcanion
x3 - Volcanion EX
x3 - Turtonator GX
x1 - Ho-Oh GX
x1 - Tapu Lele GX
x1 - Drampa GX

Supporter - 17
x4 - Professor Sycamore
x4 - N
x3 - Guzma
x2 - Acerola
x2 - Kiawe
x1 - Brigette
x1 - Fisherman

Item - 10
x4 - Ultra Ball
x2 - Switch
x2 - Rescue Stretcher
x2 - Field Blower

Tool - 4
x2 - Float Stone
x2 - Fighting Fury Belt

Field - 4
x2 - Brooklet Hill
x2 - Po Town

Energy - 14
x14 - FIRE Energy

Bright Flame + FFB + 2 Steam Ups is 230 damage. The 230 HP from FFB also ups the energy requirement for OHKO from from Infinite Force from 7 energy to 8. Ho-Oh is still here just so Drampa isn't my only Water/mirror match check.

I kind of want to drop something for 1-2 Plumeria, as well as 3-4 Lusamine when she comes out, though deck space is already pretty thing. Any suggestions on that as well?

I like the thinking here focusing on Turt because of Gard GX. Po town can possibly get you 60 damage counters on those Gards too. I like the list a lot. I would try to fit in 1 more Lele, since you run 2 Kiawe and if 1 lele is prized you got the 2nd one. Brigette seems bad without an octillery line/starmie line or something though.
My suggestions: add in 1 more Lele GX.
My personal choices: add in a starmie line helps those Steam Up KOs, 4 max elixir. I personally love max elixir, and you already run tons of energy so it fits in well. Course it powers Garb up too, but energy accelration is so good.

>>

>>
>>33456704
How about

x2 Guzma (-1)
x3 Float Stone (+1)
x0 Switch (-2)

Makes room for x2 Plumeria or a 1-1 Starmie line like >>33456581 suggested.

And I used to run Max Elixir, but I felt like between it, Baby Volc, Turt GX, and Kiawe, I was grabbing too much energy from too many different places for it to be effective. At the very least, a Starmie line could help thin out my hand of Kiawes, UBs, and Brooklets I no longer need mid-late game.

>>
>>33457071
Thin out early game cards I no longer need in exchange for lowering Gard's damage output by 30 (60 if they're wasting DCE on it).

I've been running with it for a few matches, but haven't really seen it be a game-changer or hindrance. Had one game against some really awful Eeveeloution/A-Ninetales deck where it and Drampa shut them down as they were only running DCE/Rainbow, but that probably has more to do with their deck efficiency rather than Plumeria's.

i'm new to the pokemon tcg thing

can anyone explain me why this Tropical Beach card is so good and so valuable?

I've seen it mentioned quite a few times already
>>
>>33457352
Lets you draw cards instead of just ending the turn doing noting, its only viable in expanded. Its valuable because they're tournament promos.
>>
Please win Chen
Don't let the Cheat cheat
>>
>>33457352
It's not an especially good card, it's really good for a few decks, but if it became standard legal tomorrow it wouldn't be a must use card in the same way that Tapu Lele is and Shaymin was.

It's only special and valuable because it was a worlds promo for a few years and there's no longer any way to get them. There's one really good expanded deck (Primal Groudon) that heavily relies on them and some other lists have used one or two of them as a situational card.
>>
>>33457352
It's free card draw without using your Supporter for the turn. Obviously it's not great use every deck and every turn, but for slower decks, ones that won't be attacking every single turn (Primal Groudon being the prime example), it can be amazing for setting up a load faster.

I have a regular gx and full art gx. What's the best way to flip them? Especially the fullart
>>
>>33458114
the regular worth 7 GRI pack so you could try trading it for 7 or if you want to be sure trade it for 6, the full art worth 8.5 pack so for 8 you probably will trade it fast

Pick up the reg or FA for 6 or 7 each. Then trade 3 of them for 1 FA Guzma. Trade the Guzma for 1 Tapu Lele GX REG OR 25 BUS/GRI . Trade the lele for 30+ packs or use for your deck.
>>
>>33458263
Word nigga. I've been doing the 25/30 regLeLe flip for a bit and have a bit over 150 packs right now from my original Lele pull. Lele is the top flippable card right? Or is there a more profitable one? Ultra Ball? DCE?

>>
>>33459111
try to ask for 2, .5 packs like steam siege. or ask for 4 chests each. then you can trade 3 chest for 1 bus usually, or flip the chest. Its worth noting if you trade a full line/playset like 4 lapras gx, OR 3-4 umbreon GX with 3-4 eevee or whatever family of cards you can squeeze out a bit more trading power, usually gives you +1 or 2 value extra but those are more advanced techniques. Good uptrade targets that are low value are Darkrai GX, Metagross GX,Necrozma, espeon Gx,turt etc.

Legend cards were awesome and weren't either recycled art, nor 3D models.

It probably has a reason to be like that (maybe kids find this kind of art better) but don't say that's the better of two options when it's actually one of the worst among incountable others.

>>33461455
Agreed, he's the most "Let's Play" of the TCGO Youtubers I can think of, going more for entertainment than playing particularly well or with particularly great decks. Yellowswellow is decent, tablemon's good and you know he is with coming top 8 at Worlds, ptcgradio is cool for info on new cards and potential strategies though his "good moooooooorning ladies and gentlemen" can get a little grating. Rare Candy, omnipoke and Team Fish Knuckles all show decent plays, as does Seagrove who also does some interesting interviews with pro players. Aurabomb, Token Minorities and Trainer Chip also come to mind, but with all of them, your mileage may vary.
>>
>>33461559

So I won that 24 ticket expanded tournament, now I have a bunch of old but relatively expensive packs. What should I do with them? Convert them to GRI? Will people accept my trades for cards and stuff if I put up old packs for trade? Considering the demand, it's easier for me to offer GRI and BUS, no?

energy loto always makes sense in 8 special energy decks.

Anyways, lock decks in expanded tend not to work as well. One hex maniac and your lock chain is broken and Marshadow is not hard to OHKO in expanded. If you're gonna play a deck like this you should take more advantage of the fighting support in expanded. Focus sash and Korrina in particular.

Shaymin is also really important for a deck like this and honestly you should run 2. Sky return is a very good attack to have in discard. I don't really like Lillie and crushing hammers here, and you should trade one of those Lysandres for a Guzma because you have no switching items at all.

>Yellowswellow
Can't stand watching him he is up there with Darkintergral in terms of misplays.

I would say Omnipoke as they are fairly informative and they have streams where other high end players will join the chat and mock them. (and at least Joe from Omnipoke tends to notice when they misplay almost right away and will then explain it.)

Tablemon and Team Fish Knuckles is also informative but can be fairly bland TFK less so but Tablemon has better prestige having gotten so far in worlds recently.

ptcgradio I blame his faults on having to get videos out of some very small leaks but quite a few of his videos are overhyping cards.

Yeah that shit really sucks.
>>
>>33464325

that wasn't the only issue. they REMOVED the FA version and stuck it in a random box set long after it mattered. Fucking TCGi I swear.
>>
when will we get bo3 events? I'm seriously fucking sick of losing in 3rd/4th to jank decks because I go 6 turns without a supporter or consistency card. I don't care if I have to sit for an hour and a half to do an event.

Shaymin EX says hi! At least we get to play with with best boi N for 9 months of standard with his new FA.
>>
>>33464418

wasn't the main issue always time constraints? Bo3 can take easily take over an hour or so and that depends on the format.
>>
>>33464465

I dont get it, we are talking about the online game, specifically tournament structure being 1 game per round. In paper the game is played best 2 out of 3. there are also time constraints as well, but the online game claims to be as consistent to the real paper version, yet they still dont have best 2 out of 3 formats.

Is it too late to get into physical Pokémon TCG now as an MTG player? I don't need another late/huge timesink
>>
>>33465829
in TCGO, you save tokens and splurge on 20-30 no-trade packs between sets once you've pika pack flipped to get all of the staples and don't need to scrounge value.

That'll get you a full set of everything.

>>33466006
Virizions are good though, when Venusaur SHL comes out they'll be able to attack for one attachment. If FOGP wasn't banned...
>>
>>33466100
Why would it be too late? The most expensive staple card is $40 and you only need two of them. After that your other staples combined are like $15-20 total and the rest is just pokemon which run $5-30ish depending on your deck.

There are some stupid expensive decks like Primal Groudon and to a lesser extent Mega Rayquaza, but they're mostly expanded only.
>>
>>33466122
>The most expensive staple card is $40 and you only need two of them.
>$40

Tapu Lele-GX is around $60, hoss.
>>
>>33466204
>implying i kept up on price after getting my three

It could be $100 and it'd still be cheaper to build in this game than in Magic. But they really do need to do something to keep that price down. Lele's going to be around for years.
>>
I have about seven or eight Reg LeleGX in live cards. Should I sell now or wait?
>>
>>33466770
I see no reason to expect the price to fall so long as the format is what it is. There's no alternative and unlike Shaymin there's not even a compelling reason not to run it in terms of it being a prize liability.

The lack of VS seekers makes Lele extremely important for consistency in most decks. People are upping their Lele counts, 3 feels like the new standard, 4 isn't unreasonable. The only 'budget' replacement really is Random Receiver which is kind of shitty because it's a filler item that feeds Garb.
>>
So what cards are you guys using for flipping packs now that the new rotation is out?
>>
The new Octielery with Contrary Malamar
Oh shit dude
>>
>>33465829
Flip for high demand cards like Tapu Lele GX. Keep like 10 of them or convert into packs. When new set drops you can pick up anything at your leisure. Its worth letting the hype to go down so you end up paying much less for cards. However codes are the fastest way and easiest to keep up.

>>33466823

Somebody tell me if this is good to go or needs further adjusting.

I tried to make it less wordy more visual while I was updating because it seems like a lot of newfags don't bother reading big blocks of text.
I also connected the deck examples to the guidelines provided by labeling what guideline each card fulfilled, and tried to explain "why EXs aren't broken" about as succinctly but more thoroughly, highlighting exactly the situation in that Raichu XY matchup Glalie EX.

Also, it's small enough to post now.

most setup/evolution decks don't have room for 3. 2 definitely. Lele GX has to fight Tapu Koko for utility card support. Golisiopod GX loves Koko for easy swap ins. BuluVolt needs to set up Garde GX KOs. It's the best card to open with in any deck it is played in.

What do you think Registeel is?

Friend is just starting to play PTCGO, what deck should he make? Preferably something cheap, simple and based on a theme deck, doesn't have to be very good.

Passimian Mew is probably the most budget budget deck.

It's really gonna mix some things up unless we get a lot of reprints or effective reprints

Given the way rotations have been going, we're most likely going into Steam Siege-on come the 2018-2019 season.

that was my thoughts exactly.

What would those even be? Breaks/Megas for GXs?
>>

>literally everyones Supporter lines right now will be gone

Either we are due for reprints via another inbetween set (remember we don't know what is going to be our Shining Legends set list) or shit is gonna get real slow unless we get a new Sycamore or N replacement. Lillie only works turn one and and Hala only works after a GX play.
>>
>>33470531

we just lost Night March, Ball Trick/Ace in The Hole, Forest of Giant Plants and Vespiquen. This format might monotonous for trainer builds but i say this is the best format we've had for standard in a while.

TPCi seems to think it is given that it's displayed alongside other main sets.
>>
>>33471251

Ultra Beasts might have specific support. Just because we are not getting a Beast energy doesn't mean trainers are off the table. Not to mention we still haven't seen Celesteela, Xurkitree, or Pherosoma GXs yet. At least one of which will NOT be in Crimson Invasion.
>>
>>33471335

I would count it as much as Double Crisis or Dragon Legends. As in they ARE sets but not traditionally released sets. Filler if you will.
>>
>>33471259
if they end up being something like forms that transform after using Z-moves in the vidya, it could be some bs like "After you've used your GX attack only" but a new level of brokenness

I meant more like if USUM reveals Z-forms /ultra forms of mons like some rumors suggest

>>33471391

I figured GX attacks filled in the niche of one time use super moves without incorporating Z Cancer. Not to mention I think TCGi realized how much of a mistake Megas were. Were they even remotely played outside of Mega Mewtwo Y and Mega Fug? I know Mega Sceptile had potential but being weak to Fire then is like being weak to Psychic or Fairy now.

Nihilego GX and Chaos Tower might be an option. Or maybe Hypno BKP.

It can turn 1 KO a Ralts while accelerating a benched, and with choice band 2HKOs Garde with its first attack or OHKOs Garde with its second.

If you have two, the first one sets the second one up for sweep. There's also max elixir.

Any metal/rainbow deck can run it to good effect, not just Regi toolbox.

There's also Aggron, which can do marvelous things with Po Town. Metal and a DCE, 3 damage on 3 benched you're OHKOing Garde.

Special condition prevention and the new alolan ninetails. Not sure what to do about that.
>>
>>33471505
what special condition protection is even run in standard? A-fox seems the bigger counter to worry about
>>
>>33471521
I think I got your counter: Power of Alchemy A-muk as a one-of. Just can't drop your salazzles when it's down but you can use the GX attack to get your special conditions in then
>>
>>33471555
Power of alchemy won't work on non-basics. Good for my salazzle, but bad against alolan ninetails unfortunately.

New to PTCGO and flipping
>>
>>33473309
just bad like, in my opinion.
>>
>>33473309
In my opinion you should start with something cheaper if you're just getting into flipping, I recommend something worth about 2-3 packs. Set out trades buying them for 1, then after you get about 3-4 of them, turn them around for 2-3 packs each. Flipping isn't an instant-money process, there's things like card demand and how affordable the card you want to flip is. Cheaper cards are easier for people to buy so you get more reliable turnouts flipping those than you do the more expensive stuff. Sometimes people just won't touch your trades this week even though they were flipping like crazy last week. Try looking at Top 8 lists for recent events if you want solid cards to try and flip, everyone loves to copy pro decks. You should also be looking at how many other people are trying to flip the same card you are, clogged markets are harder to get into.
>>
>>33473486

Pretty much this, I've been flipping Zoroark BKT and Octillery BKT for a couple of days and it's been easy goings.

I'm also investing in Espeon-EXs but I've only gotten luck getting FAs for a pack.
>>
So what's the best Garb variant right now? Is it still Espeon? I'm seeing a lot more Golisopod/Garb now

If you are trying to trade them for a pack, good luck, most people try 3-4. If you are buying them, oh shit nigger what are you doing trade that shit for like 1-2 pika packs it's not worth a GRI.

>tfw wanna play ptcg because the art is pretty and full card but I don't really like that I can't interact with my opponent on their turn heavily or do jank shit

Forever cursed to play mtg...
>>
Can I get a price check on Greninja BREAK and Octillary? Want to make a Froakage deck.
>>
>>33474906
But you can play without worring about being interrupted. You can also do some planing during your opponents turn and, since you also can't interrupt them, it's a lot easier to analyze their strategy.

I know it's not as dynamic as mtg or ygo, but it's fun in its own way.
>>
>>33474764
Where exactly, anon? I never install anything other than playstore apps, do I need to jailbreak first for that?

>>33474906
You can definitely do jank.

As for interaction, it's more about planning and counterplanning. Preventative measures (like Bursting Balloon) and impending threats (like Lysandre/Guzma). Forcing hard choices and playing mind games.

Though back in BW there were some cards that worked like mtg Counter instants, or maybe closer to Yu-Gi-Oh traps except played from hand. Pic related.

Honestly, other than variations of countering/negation I don't even know what you would do on an opponent's turn.
And it feels way more tactical to manipulate things so they're afraid of repercussions rather than to just say "nuh-uh."

GX/EX's can't have comfy art, that doesn't get across the idea of what they are.

I do feel like the FAs look pretty awful though (they're just badly posed vectors), and 5Ban's work is way too cluttered.

Something closer to this hypothetical InceniroarEX would be closer than what we got for its GX.

as a huge fan of that deck, because of how cute it fucking is to use, the only reason audino took the championship, was entirely due to the lack of fighting pokemon back in the day. Nobody was playing carbink/zygarde, and so, Audino went smoothly to the top. A single fighting deck, not even a well made one, but a decent one, can destroy mega-audino instantly.

Try the online game at least, yeah the meta is very simple but it's relaxing to play from time to time, specially since you can do something else while you're waiting the opponent.
The game being focused on KOing really ruins any sort of real planning but it can't be helped.

Why so many balls? Here's my build. Po Town/Acerola to keep recycling the Raichu. You could use that with Salazzle ofc. But imo, the Paralysis is so much better than the Poison/Burn combo despite the lesser damage. You can just fuck them in the ass and leave them helpless.

Darkrai into Multi Switch is a lovely little move too, but ofc baby Muk stops it from happening. But since you're not running it and all (why not tho?)

Newfaggot here, starting playing the Pokemon TCG beginning of July with a shitty Lapras GX deck and now playing this Greninja Deck since 4 days. Working pretty good, what can I improve I know some things aren't that optimal.
>>
How consistent are the types in terms of play style (like mana colors in MTG)? Has this changed over the years?

e.g. Fire - discard energy attacks and stuff to fuel them
Psychic - special conditions and attacks that punish the opponent for energy
Fighting - low cost raw damage attacks
etc
