Almost 5 years ago, a bunch of anons on /vp/ set out to create something special.
What started out as an effort to create a brand new Pokédex soon evolved into a game dev project the likes of which had never been seen before.
Scores of anonymous posters, all working together on equal footing to cobble together an homage to the games that had shaped their lives so heavily.
As the months turned into years, new faces arrived and old faces faded away.
A bunch of amateurs, most of which with absolutely no experience, slowly started to assemble a monument to their love for a game about collecting monsters.

We have finally reached a great milestone: the completion of our Demo 2.0. The countless combined efforts of everyone, from simple survey voting anons to masterful artists, has let us accomplish this release.

Beat Stella on second attempt. Acupressure shenanigans + Echoed Voice on Taomarin ended up working better than Rock Smash did. Still ended up having to sacrifice every other member of the team to let Minarac heal before the rape train went down. Not the soundest strategy in the book & fucking hell am I glad this isn't a Nuzlocke

Speaking of which, has anyone finished a locke of this yet?

My Rocano stopped obeying me as soon as it hit 21. Luckily the stubborn bastard decided to follow through on a single Flame Burst when it mattered otherwise we wouldn't have made it

Stella's first two mons were pretty interesting to deal with but her ace wasn't fun at all - reminiscent of the worst forms of vidya 'difficulty' where devs just turn up enemy HP & damage output without having to bother making them remotely smart. Still, as a one-off it felt pretty satisfying to kill the thing - just hoping that there won't be many more 'boss' fights like that

That's the fun thing about magnitogre. Everyone sees steel and automatically thinks great defense. But it's all rusty. So it's not the best physical defender. Eventually someone would realize that their physical attacks were doing more damage than their special attacks and chip away at it that way.

The most interesting strategy I've actually heard regarding beating Magnitogre involves using a Capabara with Bestow and on the turn where Magnitogre uses his berry using Bestow to give it a worthless item.

Just tried evlving Koblin via Rare Candy in one of the gates and then again in a Pokemon center, got Koberus both times.

Really love the game so far. My main gripe though, would be how painful and tedious backtracking through routes are. I like that the routes are large and complex, but there needs to be an early game system to deal with backtracking before fly.
Perhaps a paid carriage system in towns that give you fast travel rides between locations?

I actually wouldn't be opposed to a more bronze/goldish silver color for the UI, like to match the PC box UI, and if you do that, more of the UI in general needs to change to match it, Like, the yellow of the PC UI clashes with the blue background of the actual box too much. I would also change the top window bar of the application to be that color, if thats possible.

But even if you guys go with that I still think that's too yellow, and should be made like 30% more gray.

Also, the water mill/wheel attached to the lab moves way too slow in that gif, is that a bug?

There actually is, it's the trains, but you don't get to use it till dronia and the only towns in the demo that have stations are dronia and andante.

I guess you could put it in feedback for a station to be added to quaver or dacapo or something but I doubt that's gonna happen. A more realistic request would probably be to have repels be accessable as soon as you get to tremol to make it less tedious.

That said, I've used Leafish and was reasonably able to level it up enough for the gym. However, I did skip some trainers so I could come back when I caught Leafish.

This isn't really good logic. By this logic, anything but the entire region being open at once is "closed off" because a block needs to be made somewhere.

Having route 7 open would make you feel like it's less linear, which is especially important given that as the other anon said, this is a crossroads. It's less about the actual utility of being able to go ahead and more about a perception of freedom.

Youre not wrong man, but consider that if every post in the threads was treated with equal weight as every critique then the feedback would fly in all kinds of directions. Multiple people butched about this being done on rpgmaker, if its really just one person doing that, then the devs would interpret that as a sizeable majority of the feedback calling for a platform change instead of as the vocal minority.

They listen to all feedback in the surveys, and it helps them gather points together when doing feedback meetings when they go over the demo routes later on. Trust me, they listen to all feedback but it's easier for them to remember when its in the feedback survey too.

I understand that and I admire it, I just think if you're talented enough to develop your own engine (I can't remember if this is a Heart Gold hack or its own engine, actually), creative enough to come up with this much entirely new content and ambitious enough to aim to deliver something better than the modern series, you could go a lot further AND make an actual career out of it.

Granted, I think the team on this started as not too good at developing and got way better through this experience. And doing a fan game lets you essentially start with an already completed design doc in terms of gameplay and mechanics. But I would be very interested in seeing these guys make something even more creative but merely inspired by Pokémon instead of based on it.

I mean, SaGa started out as a Final Fantasy spinoff, Chrono Trigger started as a Mana game, even Pokémon started as basically just combining Mother with digital pets.

I guess all I can say is I wish the devs well once this is finished, because I'm really impressed by not only the creativity but the competence on display here that has far surpassed what I expect from a fan game.

I want to see what Perishroom evolves into when it's burned/frozen/poisoned/toxiced.
It's a far more creative evo tree than eevee.

Yeah, the volume on some tracks seems a bit wonky, daytime Tremol being way louder than a lot of other music for example. Devs should probably do some extra sound mixing to make sure every track is the same volume

That would make it by far the most common evolution to accidentally get.
The whole point is to level up while you have a status condition, SLEEP, PARA, or FAINT.

For pokemon that evolve when they level up with a certain move, will they evolve if they level up mid battle, then learn the move after said level up before the battle ends, when you end that battle?

The game recognizes that as level up and learn move at the same time. It learns the move at that same level. So you evolve upon "level-up" and knowing the move which is happening simultaneously.

In this case, Kertruffle evolves when it levels up while fainted. This is not level up and then faint, this is level up while fainted. That specific wording means that the pokemon levels up while having 0/ remaining HP. If this pokemon levels up without having fainted at the time of level up, then it does not evolve.

If level 26; faint=yes, then evolve
If level 26; faint=no, then no evolve

For frozen, you have to 10% freeze it in a doubles battle.
You would have to search for a Corrosion/Soak pokemon just to get the poison evo. Do you really need that kind of frustration in your life

Agree with this - levelling up then fainting would normally thwart the evolution prior to gen5, & it seemed perfectly sensible for this. Glad this was posted actually, as my Kertruffle is Lv25 & was planning on levelling then fainting against one of the Andante Gym trainers

As it stands the only way to get a Perishroom in-game is via Rare Candy, which I believe would be in limited supply; so if you use them all on levelling your mons (although I wouldn't because I'm a compulsive hoarder) then you'd be a bit stuck

It is not analogous. The entire intended means for Kertruffle to evolve to Perishroom is to evolve while it levels up while already fainted. That means, using a rare candy while Kertruffle is level 25 and has fainted. Because the entire concept is that a rare candy acts as a revive and you're giving life to a dead mushroom, hence Perishroom.
