Models are given to you by Game Freak, so all you'd have to do is convert them into whatever format you'd be using, your moves have already been set up and animated in G1, the only work they'd actually have to do is set the stats, which would also probably be given by GF, and set the rarity of them. I'm not one to talk about saving dust because I had a powered-up squad of Wing Attack Golbats to attack gyms with when I was lv 20 but that was when the worst my local gyms had were lv 30 Snorlaxes and vapes. Now the difficulty is a bit higher.

If it's just one Arcanine you're worried about powering up, you're probably fine for now. Don't worry about it too much and just keep grinding and don't miss your dailies/weeklies.

let's say you put in a single defender with high (~3k) CP but with exploitable weaknesses (so, like tyranitar, gyrados or dragonite). that's 100XP for you (the first defender). your partner takes it down 3 times, getting ~50 xp total. then they place their defender, 100XP for them. berries would make this faster but they are limited in quantity, so i'll ignore them. so, ~150 XP for one cycle of beating a single defender 3 times. that would take 200 cycles (so, enough revives and potions to heal up 200 times) to get the 30k XP required for gold. how long does it take to beat a diminishing-CP strong defender 3 times? 5 minutes? that would mean ~16 hours of straight grinding. not feasible--i just wanted to write out my logic and math on this in case i'm wrong.

Didn't need to post the math to know it's a viable way to get gold badges, since raids are the highest XP giver, the next best thing is grinding for placements (100) XP. Don't use berries though, save them for when you need them in your real gyms.

There's a gym at the end of my neighborhood. After the update I there a shitmon in there hoping I'd get enough hours to get my daily coins. It was there for over a week. Went off to work the morning after it got knocked out and someone in the neighborhood already reclaimed the gym with a Blissey.

I threw another shitmon in to encourage someone to knock the Pokémon out so they wouldn't spend too much time there. It took another few days.

Went to a raid at the gym and Blissey guy was there "hiding." He was across the street behind a parked car. Asked if he wanted to tackle the raid together. Got a stuttery, nervous rejection.

A couple showed up walking their doggo. They ask if I wanna raid with them. Again ask the guy. He shakes his head and goes into the car. Not the driver seat, not the passenger. He gets into the back and ignores us. Group takes down the raid boss and we chat. Turns out we all had Pokémon in that gym. None of us fed them berries.

Blissey dude has been obsessively feeding the gym berries since update. On the rare occasion we get ousted, he takes it back within ten minutes.

Saw the couple out again this morning with the pupper. The three of us decided to only put underevolved shitmon in gyms from now on if for nothing more than to force Blissey guy to constantly feed them to keep the gym populated.

Cool, the gym is a sliver away from Gold but why obsess over it? I like having to recapture it more than once a fucking week.
