delinquent is the best art overall.

yveltal is good too but the card already has like a million different prints. I like the Shaymin way better than the current FA but I hate Shaymin as a card and really hope they don't keep it alive another year with a promo in the west.

like seriously that card ruins my enjoyment of this game. it's not fun to watch people play shaymin solitaire, it's not fun to play shaymin solitaire, and playing shaymin solitaire means that you lose the game about half of the time to someone lysandreing a shaymin off your bench, but if you don't play it you just fall too far behind.

Shaymin and the way it accelerates a game is a big part of big basic spam we've seen the past few years. I mean it was definitely there before Shaymin, but the pace at which you can pull through a deck with Shaymin these days is just too fast for anything but rare candied or FOGP'd stage 2 cards. Between ROS and SM there was only one stage 2 deck in the meta.

Well, right now we are on the "Prerelease Hype Price" Phase so the prices for chase cards are usually at the highest. Prices will usually lower when the set is officially released since there's a large influx of supply and will go lower/higher depending on playability / collectibility of the card (aka pretty much MUH CHARIZARD on the latter, and I'm not looking forward to Charizar-GX when it comes out in Burning Shadows)

About $250 I'd say. My only valuable cards are two Shaymin, two Jolteon, two Mew, a Tauros, a Manaphy, a playset each of Espeons and Umbreons GX (worst fucking purchase of my life), and a Darkrai, but all those commons and uncommons add up.

Going to a pre-release next sunday, I have been interested in the tcg part of pokemon for a long time but havent really played it much myself, only really thing I do is play the online game and even then I just enjoy playing theme.
With that said, what can I expect to happen on the pre-release and is there something I should know before going. Appreciate any advice.

Yes, a game will have 4 Prizes instead and lasts 20 minutes

You can't really use the counters from the ancient theme decks anymore since they don't have clear indicators of how much damage they represent. So you are better off buying a tower of 36 d6 + 1 round edged translucent die (that is different from the color of your tower of die if said tower is translucent) for rolling.

With UB you can get any pokemon at the cost of two cards, which is not bad, and with sycamore, getting 7 and discarding a few cards is better than having a dead hand. If you have a seven card hand which is three energy and one letter (a likely hand given your deck ratios), its a shitty clogged hand.

Thats a standard deck that pretty decent and has no expensive cards. The most expensive is talonflame and thats barely worth a pack. You can use this until you can get your VS seekers.

acro bikes aren't good in this type of list, typically you use those in lists where you want pokemon in discard or you have a huge investment in pulling something off turn 1 (such as vileplume lock), but bicycle is a card you should pretty much never use, it's just not good.

That list is still a fucking mess but an improvement, good enough to easily trash most of the theme players you'll encounter low on the ladder but you won't be climbing too high with it. Since you're playing expanded this is the turbo dark skeleton I recommend aiming to build:

If you want to play this skeleton in standard, just cut out the dark patches, Darkrai DEX and Xerosic which together is probably around 10 packs of value less than the expanded version. It's good though because once you get this up you'll have a t1 deck in both standard and expanded. Be sure to run a few extra float stones without Darkrai DEX.

Also a couple of comments on your filler cards

1. reverse valley is basically shit, it's usually better to run tech stadiums like silent lab or parallel city over it.

2. giovanni is an obsolete card, Kukui is just flat out better.

Stadiums are pretty much weather, abilities are obviously abilities, as are (soon to be were) traits, and tools are like held items. Natures are a pretty dumb idea considering all the variation it creates given how difficult it would be to make the optimal one easily attainable. There could certainly be more cards that have 3 aspects to them, like back in Stormfront/D&P. Four aspects per card is far too cramped and will lead to simplification of attacks/powers, making them boring and probably making them overlap far too much. That's already a problem that the game has.

But the problem with taking a card's prerelease price and using it as an approximating figure a week-and-a-half before the actual set releases is that its supply is extremely limited. The only way to get GUR packs is prerelease kits, generally speaking. I don't understand why you're salty about mill decks getting support. The support they get is quite minimal, and it's certainly not enough to make a mill deck Tier 1. You don't see mill decks top regionals, except for Sableye in expanded, but even then they rarely make it because of the Bo3 format.

As for why LTC is banned, once Shaymin EX became standard legal, it became incredibly easy to burn through your entire deck, and LTC removed the punishment for doing so.

You probably didn't play the game when LTC was legal, it was the stupidest shit. When you entered a low damage output mirror match the games would just last forever due to super scoop up and LTC. Wailord Stall was only decent for a very brief period.

Anyways Durant mill was a scrub magnet that wasn't even that good and had a tech card added to counter it like one season after it was introduced or less iirc. Wailord stall was the only mill deck that had any major WCS success, but it only took second and was killed by rotation immediately after that placement.

The only viable mill deck right now is houndoom which takes 10x more skill to play than whatever turbo dark or vileplume horse shit you see everywhere on ladder these days.

It's not very good but hilarious to play. I have taken down some meta decks that were unprepared with it. Hit for 380 once on a Lapras GX, and won one game against Darkrai on the very last turn because he had 1 item in his hand so I hit for 220.

Very easy to get set back up with a combo of Octillery + Lass if they are running a full bench of basic.

It's just a fun meme to play but don't expect anything greater than a 50% winrate with it.

Might be even more hilarious with a Garbodor second attacker.

I guess so, it punishes those decks since every Max Elixir just makes it stronger. Garbodor is legitimately stupid, I can't think of anything that beats it outside Glaceon EX. Being able to do 260 damage off one energy shouldn't be a thing. And using Field Blower to knock off Exp Shares, Float Stones and Fury Belts is basically just a free +40 damage increase.

Weavile-BSH is going to be the most compelling reason to not run Shaymin.
