Honestly, Duels isn't close to being the worst when it comes to its gacha currency prices. Last time I played it PAD demanded me to pay something like $12 for two character pulls (and you're of course not guaranteed to get anything good), and the game I play right now, Jurassic World, puts a whopping $60 price tag on a single booster pack with one rare dino (which you can just unlock yourself by progressing through the game anyway) and some materials like coins and food (easy as fuck to farm). That game also has a jewy """VIP""" subscribtion system (~9$ per month) with exclusive tournaments and exclusive overpowered dinosaurs.

For a comparison, Duels anniversary pack gets you roughtly 18 gacha pulls with very good drop rates, plus some plates and crafting material.

There's not much else to spend gems on.
Box expansions are a gem a slot and you stop needing to use them once you get to 300.
Team expansions are useless.
You shouldn't be using gems on timed boosters.
You should already have every relevant plate.
You don't need 200 gems to wipe a gym and gym boosters have sub-quad rates on top of a huge pull list.
There's apparently only one kind of sexpack and you should already have Zapdos, Mew, and Metagross by now.
So quad packs are fine for converting gems into material.

Will Gold ever be useful?
I know it costs gold to fuse figures, but after a week of getting gold from rewards and ingots, you'll never come close to getting low.

They should let you purchase AI tickets or even gems/boosters for absurd amounts of gold. Something like 1 gem for 5000 gold seems fair to me. Even cosmetic options like being able to change the room/field/music of the duel as the Master League stuff is easily the worst in the game.

I've been playing since launch and mainly used the same deck of figures leveled up to 4. I will level up figures for events, but only a few that I have on me and use. It helps that my main team has enough type-diversity to where at least one or two members, or one former member is usable in each event.
My team for the psychic/fighting event literally only had me swapping out Blastoise, and Moltres and I could run Chesnaught, Latios, Metagross, Shuppet, Gardevoir and Infernape.

My coin count is actually only 1.02 mil.

I currently have a lvl5 Chimchar with Fury Swipes damage boosted by 1, but I'm looking to switch it out for something better. As for my team the metagross and manaphy let them counter both of those pretty well and greninija is for mew. Honestly they're good but not meta worthy, I just think they're fun. I could've made a pair of jelly babies instead of metagross and run a reun team with the third I have but where's the skill or fun in running that.

Rares are on the left, not in any particular order.

New figurine placements are guesstimates and if you think a figure is lower than it should be i probably put it there because it loses to/ is outclassed by, most of the figures above it

Also for rares like Sylveon/Weavile/Crobat I'm assuming that the entire deck is themed.

Leaf Blade for Sceptile. You can use Mew on your gym team too. There will be a lot of purple attackers and 100+ power attackers thanks to poison types finally becoming useful. Mew will most likely be really useful

It's worth it for some stuff. Pupitar and Charmeleon are actually sort of decent at low ranks and the payout is nice if they do. Vibrava is kind of the same deal though it evolves a lot less frequently without the help of supersonic.
But I've also played people that evolve Pikachu into Raichu and that makes me question their thought process.

Grotle is in the maybe pile for me. I was going to use Turtwig but then I looked at Grotle's wheel and realized it was basically the same thing but a little more miss for stronger attacks. That ability is going to be really nice for a 3MP figure, especially one that hopefully spins blue and waits on or near your opponent's entries.

I'd rank Tentacool as E, it's gotten much better with the introduction of new poison figures such Crobat and Skorupi but it still can feel pretty underpowered at times (especially if the opponent knocks out some of your Poison figures) and the lack of specialised energy plate hurts. I suspect Venusaur and Manaphy would also work pretty well but I need that Metagross to block Deocancer.

Pulled an EX cube, what do I use it on?

I've got a Zapdos with Thunder Crash at +1, I've got a Xerneas with both Moonblasts at +1 since it was my first EX and my only one for a long time, and I fused the Dragonites from the Dragon gym. As for the rest, I just pulled a Venusaur from a quad, I have Greninja, Ho-oh, Rayquaza, Charizard, Blastoise, Mewtwo, Empoleon, Infenape, Groudon, and Zygarde

going down from 2900+ to 2550 because i keep getting matched against sub 2400 with great decks and amazing luck or rather i'm too unlucky.
my last match was against some 2330 guy that every fight ended with my figures getting the worst rolls, to the point that the only figure that he lost was one that he sacrificed with hurdle jump to take out one of the last 2 figures i had to defend.
i'm getting really fucking tired of this...
