As for balance, that'll probably work itself out in the wash as a competitive scene develops. With the added benefit of being able to patch mon/moves with nerfs or buffs to adjust them to where we want them, rather than just banning a non-mega starter to ubers or leaving legendary trio members to rot in PU.

I feel like a build point system might be good. Spend points on BST, ability, and moveset. Good stuff costs more. Box legends get high amounts of build points to spend in creation. Route1 rats and evolves at lvl10 bug, a lot less so.
TM costs slightly less than level up availability, egg less than tms, chain egg if we can measure that easily, more than normal egg.

Seems like a good solution. If I was building a randomizer that built pokemon from scratch and wanted it to be balanced I would implement that as a feature.

I assume we don't want annoying hand-hold "rivals" that drag you everywhere which is how GF has taken to solving this issue.

So, going back to the older gen1-3 ways, have it come hidden in npc dialogue. If a person gives you a quest, make sure you can always go back and talk to them again to hear the instructions.
If there is no quest and it's just "find out what to do" then yeah, have your rival or one or two npcs on the main path in the previous area casually mention it in passing. Think Gary saying he's going north to Bill's house, or people in Caledon mentioning the game corner a lot, and one guy saying there was someone being suspiciously protective of one particular poster on the wall.
Makes the player go... huh I wonder what's up there I guess I'll explore.

I mean, this isn't a Dev team job. This is a community job, primarily for those good at competitive play.

They compile a list of what they think moves and abilities are generally worth, and a BST to BP ratio, build a couple things in each category range to figure out what BP they should all have, rebuild the mon from ground up using the originals as base but now accounting for BP costs, then hand the final, balanced version to the devs to implement.

This wouldn't make everything equal, it would make things we intend to be in similar tiers equal. It prevents things that are unintentionally too good or bad for what they're supposed to be.
Talonflame, for instance, which got promptly nerfed in the next patch equivalent. Route1 bird was not meant to be an ubers suspect. Similarly, i'm guessing Toxiraptor isn't either. But here it is, incredibly fast, with decent other stats, decent ability and move pool, and Spore. In a BP system, the builder would have ran out of points by then and realized he would need to sacrifice some things to get Toxiraptor back to a level he was intended for, or else advocate to everyone else that Toxiraptor be bumped up a tier or two.

Reminder mons with Spore are coded in the game to use it first turn for instaSleep. And if you Awakening/PoopFlute to get rid of it, the AI will use it instantly as well - so the only way to overcome it is to spam Fight and hope to break out of sleep via RNG, or rely on Insomnia.

We could for Ejacasm and Analgae, but the problem is that the sprites on the doc all have a background. (Granted a lot of the sugi art does also), but to get clean sprites with transparent backgrounds would involve me either ripping them straight from the Rom itself, or downloading a tool that would let me clean up the sprites and add the transparent background. I will eventually, but for now I am just focusing on getting the data and adding in art where it's easy for me to add.
