End of the 2nd cour.

That'll be the big deciding factor of the series for me.

If we don't get shown a glimpse of the future, ie, Aether, Skull, or UB's, then it's going to be tough to defend SM.

We're 14 episodes in and we've had 2 real battles so far.

Ash VS Dekagoose and Ash VS Hala. Everything else has been short, 30 second fights that has no real impact.

If we don't get to see trials, captures, or plot soon for the show things are going to start becoming stale quick. This is the longest Ash has gone without capturing a 2nd Pokemon in a new region, and while I don't mind some of the SoL aspects of the series having to much at the start is a very bad way to begin.

I also dislike anime Lillie, she's cute yes, but having her essentially become Z-Powered Lillie but unable to touch Pokemon 14 episodes in is really disheartening.

We've had a lot of foreshadowing of future events, but unless there is even a slim pay off of it soon there's going to be no incentive to keep watching.

I don't know how serebii is now, but AG and DP were viewed very fondly back when they were originally airing there. Most of the bashing just came from some minor rabid Misty fans just going on how much the anime sucked just because Misty left, even though they didn't bother watching any of the episodes.

Kind of funny the fandom today doesn't have to deal with those people anymore.

Nothing delivered. Not the TF arc, not the Greninja arc, not the contest shit, and the romance was absolutely nothing until a bit of last minute fanservice. Mind you most of this was in XYZ, prior to that XY had absolutely nothing going on besides gyms.

The league was by far the most important thing since the whole series revolved around Ash being competent finally, and nothing else. League not delivering means nothing delivered.

People are forgetting XY was people giving the anime one more chance after BW, because they saw XY as being more similar to DP with Ash competent again, better animation, etc.

XY was the last bit of goodwill the writers had left. BW would have just been viewed as an anomaly, and XY got the show back on track. That's what people were saying when XY was airing. However after it ended and SM happened...it just proves that the writers have no real intention of going anywhere with Ash, and that was the last straw that broke the camels back for people.

It's also now been 20 years. After 20 years people have given up. That's why people don't care. After DP and XY, people won't be fooled a third time even if Ash is made competent again in Gen 8 and things chance for the better once more.

The arc ties directly into the league, and didn't deliver because he accomplished nothing with the form, and lost exactly like he did before mastering the form, making the whole thing a huge waste of time.

The battles were shit, all they fought were fucking tentacle roots, Lysandre was as generic as possible, there was still zero conflict between Ash and Alain, and they stopped it with power of friendship + literal deus ex machina. Oh but the Citroid died for absolutely no reason, just to force some drama, after a battle that wasn't shown.

The battles were fine, and the tentaqcle roots were only a small part of it. Bonnie's bondwith squishy, the Gym leaders all returning, Steven and Diantha helping out, Clemont and Clembot, TR fighting, Ash and Alan working side by side, and Greninja did it's job.

And in the end they all did nothing, ZZ gundam could have just ended it from the start.

Clemont's role wasn't so much the battle, it was him and Clembot's role inside the Flare base. Greninja's prophecy wasn't only the Flare arc but continued as Kalos protector with Zyagrde in his last episode. The Gym leaders and Champions all returning to help out added to the epicness.

People were enjoying it in the begining, but they're leaving the show after seeing it's not deliverying. Until this episode, it feels Ash is more like an extra character who doesn't do any shit besides being the circunstamcial victim of the forced gags and simply being there to remind "hey, we're the faces of the show!". It's like Matsui demoted him to a walking bulk who has to be removed at any cost.

It's like you watch a long running show you have got to get fond of and used to the MC, but then a new season starts and the show introduces a pretty big cast since the beginning. Then you start to realize the MC is starting to get shafted in favour of the new characters and starts to become just part of the BG until the moment he is finally axed from the show. It's the same feeling I have with S&M. I feel Ash is really becoming just part of the BG in the big majority of the episodes, just like Brock was in DP.
