I stumbled across a Clefairy nest that also happens to have CRAZY-diverse spawning of all kinds of stuff, different biomes I've never seen interact like this.

in the couple of hours I was there hanging around farming for Clefables, I saw:
Squirtle, Wartortle, Caterpie, Metapod, Weedle, Kakuna, Beedrill, Pidgey, Pidgeot, Rattata, Spearow, Ekans, Nidoran, Nidoran, Nidorino, Clefairy, Vulpix, Zubat, Oddish, Gloom, Paras, Venonat, Meowth, Psyduck, Growlithe, Abra, Machop, Bellsprout, Geodude, Graveller, Seel, Grimer, Shellder, Gastly, Drowzee, Krabby, Cubone, Rhyhorn, Horsea, Seadra, Goldeen, Staryu, Jynx, Tauros and Eevee.

All within like a 2 block radius of each other. This place is a 20 minute drive from my home and I never knew about it until now, I could cry. It's pretty barren of Pokestops, but a great area to go on safari if you stock up elsewhere before you go.

Who'd have thought that Hodgkins, Illinois was Pokemecca? Honestly, I didn't see it coming.

It can happen if your phone lost the signal for an instant, it happened to me more than once in a certain area where I have a weak signal for about 20m.
It can also happen when your gps is drifting you away, like when you lose your sightings for a moment.

Speaking of cut features, I was thinking of a way pvp could be implemented in the never reaching future.
Players can start pvp matches at gyms. (Maybe Pokestops)
Players can choose to either

Or
>seek/request challenge

It could work the same was as gym battles do now when two players fight one gym. Player who requests the battle will be the defender, while seeker is the attacker.
The defender, instead of dodging, swipes to aim. And dodging has a recharge time equivalent to the weight and size of the Pokémon (so a Pokémon weighing 10kg would dodge more often than a 50kg one for example)
Maybe some rebalancing for heavier sized Pokémon to have more HP.
If the player who wins is the same Team as the gym they're standing on, the gym gains prestige. I think people could battle within their teams as well.

Doesn't make it any less pointless. If you can only PVP at gyms, and the result of a PVP battle is that it rewards prestige, what's the point? Why wouldn't I just beat the shit out of the stupid AI for prestige?

And sure, you could stretch the definition of an MMO to include PoGo because there are multiple players in the same world. But with other players literally nonexistent in each individual instance of the world, it's not much of an MMO. You can't interact with other players. Not even as much as communication with other players. So implementing something like trading would be awkward.

The only way they could implement it without drastically overhauling the game would be a GTS that everyone can access, make a trade request and just wait for it to complete. I don't know how that'd affect the game's performance or how useful that feature would be with all of the PoGo players at once.

Let's scrap the prestige reward entirely. That way we can tie PVP to Pokestops exclusively.

Basically, when you pull up a Stop, it has a Battle icon that pulls up a list where you can see active players that have requested a battle. Also available is a button that will add you to that list. Just like with swiping a Stop for items, you have to be in range of the Stop to initiate a battle or request a battle. A prompt will confirm that both players want to battle and if both say yes they're taken into the same interface as gym battling. They swipe to dodge and tap to attack just as they normally do when attacking gyms, except the opponent's actions will be reflected on your screen as well.

This way, Niantic doesn't have to overhaul the MMO aspect of the game (players' locations are still technically private, you only know that they're within the Stop's radius) and they don't have to overhaul the battling mechanics because it's just the Gym mechanics, mirrored.

As for rewards, you could give the winner of the PVP battle coins or items, in addition to experience.

The only issue is that the current battle system works in a circle, with the defender in the middle. The player in gyms at the moment can dodge infinitely at a fast pace. The ai has to aim to hit the player.
It wouldn't work if two players were pit against eachother like that because the players can just dodge until they come to the same point in the circle. Also aiming would be broken.

Excuse the shitty drawing, but they could change the system from the current layout (top) to the bottom layout where the dodging is extremely narrow and the "defender" isn't positioned in the middle of the stage but directly across. Admittedly the arena would have to be much smaller (which makes logical sense as it's not a full gym battle, just a casual game at a Stop) so that you can still see other.

Gyms are stagnant because of spoofers.
My parents live about 50 km from a big city, I live in said big city. Parents' town has 2 gyms at the elementary schools. When the gam came out it was a healthy competition between mystic and instinct in the town. Now every time I visit, I see only mystic in the gyms and the same names I see in the big city 50 km away. These spoofers take small town gyms all over every day if must. I kick them out every time I visit, but they re-gain the gyms almost immediately. Small town kids have absolutely zero chance against them. Competition=0.

Did anything happen since Christmas? Do I reinstall?

So typically, in between events, I make an attempt to get to 9x10km eggs to do a mass hatch. Unfortunately, I've never reached the full 9. Most of the time I hit 8 when a new event starts, forcing me to incubate all 8. So this time around, I started collecting 10km eggs again after the baby event. Got 8x eggs 3 weeks ago, and have hatched 25x5km and 2x2km eggs waiting to get another 10km egg. Hopefully I get another 10km before Gen2 comes out, but yet, I would not mind incubating them all if Gen2 comes out this week!

There's a few gyms that are sort of like stop gaps in our little area, what I mean by that is there's a pocket of yellow gyms at one end of the road and several more further up the road but there's one in particular that is a blue citadel that interrupts an otherwise exclusively yellow dominated area. I can clear the gym no problem and if the bubblestrat is successful, build it to a level 10 and in theory the other nearby yellow players will see that and fill the open spaces.
Obviously I don't need more gyms for myself but I'd like to reestablish some strongholds in this manner.

I live on a residential loop that has houses and three apartment complexes. The loop is maybe one square kilometer. I don't do regular scanning, but do scan on occasion with the typical tracker that can cover about 1/7th of a square kilometer. I seem to notice many more evolution forms at home than I do at work. I'm not talking rares, but just evolutions.

For example, I seem to see Pidgeottos almost always. One scan last night had 7 Pidgeottos, 1 Pidgeot, 2 Raticate all in the same radius. That's perhaps an exceptional number, but 2-3 Pidgeottos is very common.

What gives? Thoughts would include:

Confirmation bias. I scan more at home so maybe I'm just seeing what is also happening in other places. However, I don't seem to see this pattern at work.

Spawn density leads to more chances for evolutions. There are two "poke explosion" spots in the scan. One usually has 5-7 spawns and the other can easily have a dozen. However, the evolutions don't always or even usually show up there.

I'm very close to finishing my Pokedex. In the last two weeks, I picked up several new entries thanks to the nest atlas and finally racking up enough candies on multiple different species to evolve their final forms. The only Pokemon that feels out of reach is Lapras - I've never seen one in the wild and never hatched one. However, I'm also finally getting my gym game together and collecting 30 to 60 coins a day, so I'm hoping the influx of incubators will help me hatch a Lapras eventually. I'll also be level 30 soon, which is cool.
I've been keeping myself busy by using all the extra candy I've saved up for various species to try to evolve prestigers with good movesets. I'm building two teams, one at 1450-1500 CP, and the other at 1200-1250 CP. Since I'm on the dominant team in my neighborhood, having solid prestigers is more important than high CP attackers or defenders anyway.

All, Just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone on /pgg/ for the help they have provided me and my wife's son. We started playing in July, and today, after many happy memories and much fingers crossed for BBC, we have now completed our regional pokedex (+1).

Thanks to all the spoofers on /pgg/, we discovered rares near us that allowed us to get all those Lapras and Snorlax. We discovered tutu app and only recently started to look at IVs. We've been pretty active in gym battles, but only now learning to gitgud.

We are going to take a break now, as we have just walked the final kms to max out Farfetchd and to now have a pokedex showing 152/152 (Thanks to a business trip to the Japan, I was able to catch several waifus).

We are level 33, hatched 1230 eggs and walked just over 1100 kms, and have a living dex, all free to play.

My wife's son is now bored catching the same Pokemon, so he is just playing Rhythm Heaven Megamix on his 3DS.

This is my first ever experience of pokemon and it has been lots of fun, though the last few months have been a "grind". I'll keep checking /pgg/ for updates and maybe events, but will be much less active than we have been - though not sure I will be able to spank the monkey. Will probably still catch 1/spin 1 each day and collect coins from gyms for as long as they last.

I have been observing this player for a few weeks and I have come to conclusion that she/he (can't assume gender in 2017) is probably spoofing. In my campus, there are 3 gyms and the distance between the two is around 10 minutes walk. However, every time she takes over the gym, it takes less than 3 minutes (if the gym level is low). It is just merely impossible even if the gyms are empty?

What are some good live maps for cities? All I can find is the NYC one. There has to be other ones.

I am not certain the animation itself is a direct 1:1 relationship of what is going on battle-wise. Unlike Pokken Tournament where the animation pretty much ties into the inputs a player does, I am noticing issues with the animation being shown for the attack and the reported animation for damage. There are periodic adjustments done by the system, and player inputs don't tend to match actions animated. That and the critical hit values that have been suggested seem to tie more into if the special attack is actually animated or not vs. being counted towards actual damage. In short, critical hits don't seem to do any more or less damage.
I have also noticed that that if you do 10 quick attacks it powers up the special attack pretty much every time. And if you don't do any quick attacks the damage you take seems to store in the orange bar which then gets applied to the special attack bars and main stamina bar (green/yellow/red), but the amounts are much less. I have also noticed that gym defenders will wait until all the full bars are powered up before attacking.
And I have noticed there seems to be a tie-in into size and who goes first in attack sequence. Small goes first, then normal, then gigantic. But if the size is the same between attacker and defender than its the same time. So if a small pokemon is an attacker goes against a gigantic, the small pokemon will go first in the sequence of attacks.
Its almost like the animation being shown during battles are more relative to what is going on battle-wise, but is not an exact representation. The battle animation seems more as feedback for the player on how the game is playing out, but cannot be relied on where DPS ideas are concerned.
Just curious what the history of the DPS theory, because my observations are not really lining up to the concept.
