I have to say today's episode restored my faith in SM. If they can make more funny eps like this, develop whatever Ash's future team is, and do a good job adapting the Ultra Beasts/Lusamine story from the games into the anime, it'll be a decent series. I still wish Ash's character ended with XY, but this series isn't too bad.

One of my biggest hopes for the anime is to someday see the Team Rocket organization in the field again. Yes they're still operating and flourishing but that's only to continue the TRio's existence. If there's one thing Best Wishes did right, it was making the entire organization relevant again, if only for a slight drop-off thanks to the cancellation of Rocket vs Plasma.
I wanna see something like that but more fullfiled, like Giovanni getting off his ass and traveling to the new region WITH the TRio, establishing a new base, a few episodes where Ash and Co. have to thwart the plans of TR members other than the TRio.
And to top it all off, Team Rocket getting into an underground turf war with the resident evil team. Team Skull might be seen as more of an annoyance, but imagine Rocket trying to terrorize the Aether Foundation's conservation efforts, and eventually finding out about the UBs. Imagine seeing an episode where Rocket invades Aether Paradise. IMAGINE Giovanni having a standoff with Lusamine.

This. There are no in-school rivalries aside MAYBE from the thus-far-friendly one Ash has with Kiawe. There are no bullies or antagonists in the school. There are few, if any, plot developments that result directly from what happens in class; only the egg has resulted from it, and even then it was just a matter of the principal giving them the egg and sending them along instead of putting them through these rigorous lessons and exams on it. The rest has just been "X random thing happens to occur while they're in this certain place for an unrelated school reason," like in Lana's episode or this beach episode.

Pokemon wasn't a good choice for a slice-of-life style for that reason. You can't just take games that are based heavily in battling and adventure and traveling and such, turn it into a school setting with slapstick comedy, and then expect everything to gel perfectly.
