That"s the point of the z-moves, it doesn't have to be used on its type. As long as you have matching move type, you can use it. And I'm sure there are tons of physical moves for all sorts of Pokemon in Alola. Heck, he doesn't even need to use it now, he could very well use it for a later episode.
