It's happening again

Almost two years ago, /vp/ expressed interest in a fangame called Pokemon Reborn. A person called Notm played through it and posted screencaps here, exposing some less than stellar writing and game design. Keks were had. I joined him in playing through the game, but his savefile got corrupted, so I'm the only one left. We last left off at Episode 15, which was posted around one and a half years back.
Recently, Episode 16 was released, which will be what this topic covers,
Unfortunately, the previous archive owner was retarded and did not keep backups when the server got corrupted, so although the old posts and thumbnails are still up, the screencaps are gone. The last part posted started with this thread, and links to earlier threads are there as well:

If only it were that simple. For our newcomers I'm going to post a few choice screencaps to deminstrate how this got into /vp/ infamy.
This is an example of character design. This... man is a flaming bisexual who constantly flirts wih the player, to the point where it could be considered sexual harassment. In spite of all this he's one ofthe more bearable characters in the game. Make of that what you will.

The real point where the game jumped the shark, though, is about 4 hours in when a gym leader tells you to watch him to commit suicide. No, really.
Even worse is that this was based off real events, which I will elaborate on later.

It almost happens again too, when a gym leader suddenly find out her lesbian lover never loved her at all, so she tries to jump off a waterfall to her death. Nothing in this is exaggerated, by the way.

Because the archive died, new readers can't join us on this wild ride as easily as before, but I'll try my best to summarise the game's story so far.
Basically you enter the Reborn Region, a polluted fucking shithole with a league of super special gym leaders. Along the way, we meet up with the evil team of this game, Team Meteor, who are revealed to be responsible for the city turning to shit because they want to ""purify"" it. We also meet up with an Arceus cult, which worship a meteor in shrien deep below the city, and when the links between the cult and Team Meteor are revealed we slowly put together their motivation to create a new world.
But we're just an adventuing trainer, so that shouldn't bother us. We hope.
In this update, the PULSEdex and Fielddex are added. PULSEs are megas, but story-wise, pokemon that got supercharged to do evil shit by the evil team. Field effects are the bigger gimmick, and bascially every fight yakes place on a special field that has different effects. Because we're upgrading from a previous version, the game gives us all the info automatically.

Anywaym, have a reintroduction to the team. In the box are HM slaves and reserves, and my current main team in my party. The main challenge of the game also comes from how hard it is to get pokemon that aren't trash, so for the longest time you have to make do with sub 400 BST pokedex filler while everyone and their mother throws pseudolegends at you.
Golurk is the main addition to the team this time, mainly for Fly and STAB earthquake. Serperior was my starter, and continues to carry the team.
Gyarados and Gastly are no longer available, and only obtainable if you manipulate your save to go back to versions where they wre available, unfortuantely. Gyarados truly is an ingame monster, but banning Gengar is dumb.

For what it is, I think it's an impressive effort, it's just to what end? Some of the mechanics seem cool and the plot could be kinda fun if they went the Super Mario Sunshine route with the hero cleaning up the region as they collected gym badges. Right now the writing just seems kinda melodramatic.
Not sure about the balance issues, as this is the first of these threads i've seen.

For a bit of context, Reborn City used to look like this, with brown filthy water and cracked buildings and streets. Basically a shithole. Anyway, just about everyone tells us to go to the city grand hall, so we do. Here we meet up with none other than Ame herself, the self-insert of the lead developer. This character is the owneer and manage of the pokemon league of this region, which might be the worst fucking organized pokemon league ever. To recap, our leaders included:

Mainly, there are nothing but shitmons to catch for a very, very long time (To the point that shit like Technician Persian and Lightingrod Seaking are relatively OP), grinding is fucking hell, because not only are most random encounters with aforementioned shitmons with shit exp multipliers, but they are also usually GSC tier underlevelled. The gym leaders and important fights usually have a terrain advantage, sometimes with bullshit effects (Think, "This terrain makes Meditate boost Attack by 3, makes Fighting moves never miss, and by the way here's the fighting gym, then this terrain fucks off and never returns), and if your own pokemon break the level cap determined by your badge, they stop listening, like they were traded. (There are common candies to help remedy this)
So basically, the only way to win is to either play xtreme bullshit yourself (EZ chicken curbstomps the game), or spend over 3000 hours grinding up perfect counters for everything.
Oh, and you usually only get shitty TMs.

I think there are rebattleable trainers to make the grinding perfect counters less of a chore. Rejuvenation, for all it's flaws as a somehow more retarded knockoff of this game, has high xp yield trainers in every town so you can grind up a new Pokemon within minutes.

Now, next to find Victoria. Since the water in the city is clean and can be surfed on now, I decide to try going over to he school she's taken over. On the way, I find two incredibly rare and valuable Pokemon.
No, really, Tentacool is only avalaible before now as a mystery egg as a 1/18 chance and you can't reset for it. To be fair, it's because Tentacruel is a really strong Pokemon, and Mantine soon will be. The lack of decent water Pokemon on this game really gets on my nerves though.
This volcano top was the first time we fought a superboss, a level 75 garchomp. I used a Mastermite to kill it, and it became my Magnezone. Also where Victoria's sensei died a horrible death.

Anyway, we finally find Victoria, mourning her former master, Kiki, in the cemetary.
Bascially, while we were with the kids from the orphanage trying to escape the city, an earthquake triggered that seperated us and they got kidnapped by the evil team again. As for why the evil team wanted them, it's because they hold some super powerful jewelry that is the key to arceus or something, and for some reason they hired the orphanage owner, Edmund Connal or something, to join them. I nicknameds him Dr Electrorape.
So anyway to reach the kids and save them from being brought back into the rapehouse we needed the strength HM, but the bitch of a sensei said no because it's only offered to graduating students and it would be disrespectful, you know, if I was given it so I could go and save a few lives or something. Then we follow a stupid dramatic questline that ends with one of her students outed as a traitor, her being decapitated by a garchomp and Victoria overtaking the school, so yeah.

Shauna is a gateway waifu of the worst kind. She's a bad character, a clusterfuck of peppiness and slutiness that isn't very well done by any aspect, but which attempts to compensate for its weaknesses by adding in excessive shipping faggotry and BROWNNESS. The normal anon can see her as the shit she is, and may enjoy her, hate her or be indifferent to her, but all the while recognizing that she, regardless of their opinion, is plain bad.
However, these very aspects that try to smear over the shit of its core make it a breeding ground for aspie, unsociable neckbearded faggots who engage in every kind of faggotry both online and in the real world. Shauna is basically THE waifu to attract the most hated waifufag fanbase known to /vp/, which is why, regardless of individual opinions, it is the responsibility of every anon to troll the fuck out of this character and everyone who likes it, and ensure that no Shauna threads ever encourage the newfriends to show their faces here.

Brief interlude to discuss something I only recently found out.
Back in those threads someone mentioned that an 'IRL' Kiki and Corey (the guy who suicided in >>30769404) died in ways similar to those depicted in game. It turns out that this game is actually based on an ancient forum/Pokemon online server RP dating back to at least 2010, which helps to explain why the characters are as ridiculous as they are. It was originally hosted on a website caleld poke-place, but it has since died when they moved to the current site.
Some people would RP as gym leaders and an E4 and people would battle them using Pokemon online or other simulators, and as of today they continue to do so on Showdown. The game itself was a small project of Amethyst, one of the staff back then, that only came out in 2012, and slowly grew bigger.
So IRL Corey and Kiki were roleplayers who died because of suicide and nephritis complications from systemic lupus erythematosus .
Putting them in your game seems liek a less than stellar way of honouring their memories.

I missed one of the earlier threads due to the odd numbering back then (the second number 6, I think?). And then I completely missed the last two threads from Jun. Still, better than nothing I guess. Someone in a XY vs SM thread a few days ago summed it up pretty well. XY told but never showed. You were told about how Lysandre was (and on the surface is pretending to be) this nice philanthropist guy but only see the seething contempt for the filth destroying his perfect world without any pretense at pretending. You're told that there's a blackout in Lumioise City and thus can't explore all of it during your first visit, but behind the barricades impeding your path you can see all the lights are still on. You get told about how Diantha is an amazing movie star but not once does the game mention any movies she's been in. You're told things and expected to believe them when the game then gives zero evidence to support those things.
In SM, you're being shown rather than told. Lillie doesn't say outright she had a bad upbringing thanks to her mother being a worse parent than Ghetis, but you can piece it together throughout the game from parts of her (and Gladion's) dialogue even before the familial link between her and Lusamine is confirmed. You never are told anything about Lana's personality, leaving you surprised when she tricks you into entering the trial site without warning (and cursing her for lying about Kyogre being in the local lake). You're never explicitly told Gumza had a horrible upbringing, you instead (optionally!) find his house, hear the awful implications from his abusive father, and see the bent golf clubs.
This is why basically no one from XY can be remembered for shit and why SM's cast is much more liked and memorable.

God how is XY such a blur to me when I played it so recently? I played B2W2 back in 2012 and still remember stuff like the Elesa gym fakeout (oh you thought it was the same gym as back in BW1? Gardevoir managed to pick up a lot of calm mind boosts, so it manages to survive the Magnezone's discharge attack. The discharge attack shorts out the environment and turns it dark. The 'darkness strengthens the attack' thing is one of the rare few times the field works out in my favour, as it powers up shadow ball.

Luckily my Gardevoir traces the Granbull's intimidate, and I keep switching in my Arcanine to stack intimidates, trying to make it as useless as possible while my Gardevoir boosts to +6 calm minds. Not how their gardevoir is male.
The mega is revealed early, and thank fuck I can kill it before servere damage is done, but I have to keep sacrificing pokemon for turns to heal Gardevoir.
When the Whimsicott comes out, it uses prankster tailwind to change the field to a growing garden. Apaprently it's some super complicated field that grows with certain moves unless you cut or burn it down, but I didn;t need to do that.
That Florges seems to be their ace.

A lot of the game makes so much more sense when you find out it's based on a forum RP.
Anyway, one of the biggest features introduced in this episode is online capabilities. In the previous version, the game was building up to this by taking a lot of non-shit pokemon that were previously available in pretty fun events, and making them all come from the same event, of which you can only have one of eighteen. Fucking stupid and lazy, really.
Among the Pokemon that used to be available, Gastly and Gyarados are the main ones that have been removed for 'balance' purposes. Natrually, people online would want to trade for them.

There are few fields that you don't get by default on non-E16 native file, like Holy Field (it's in the Sanctum), Fairy Tale (complete second Coral Ward quiz), New World (new field, hasn't been used yet; it's hidden in a Beryl Library's secret room) and Underwater (you guess it, it's in one of the underwater areas). And probably one or two I've missed.

Yeah. I don't remember where it was, other than it's a cavern that can be accessed only by using Dive spot (it's on surface but you have to go underwater to go under rocks).
Once you enter, you will get a message that hints what you do. Enter a battle, use Blizzard to freeze the water and it should also freeze water in the overworld (other than waterfalls that are crucial for moving around). If you exit the cavern, it will return to normal.
I am not sure if any other place does that, though. Seems like a new puzzle.

While I thought Fern was a harmless cynic, he turns out to be a true blue cuntwad. We beat him again and take the second badge from his sister, then head further north. More of Team Meteor's shennanigans and we meet an admin called Taka who seems pretty reluctant to be in Team Meteor. When we get trapped in a cage, Fern refuses to bail us out unless we suck his dick, but Taka's chatot does. We find a man called Corey, who seems to be a Meteor admin and a gym leader with a poor relationship with his daughter Heather, who is for some reason powerful enough to be a member of the E4.

While we're away Team Meteor kidnaps the kids because for some reason Dr Electrorape is working with them. We need strength, which is held by Victoria's mater at her school, but there's no way to get across the shit lake. Cain can becauseh e has poison Pokemon, but we need to help the water gym leader storm the source of the pollution before she lends us her boat. Turns out they were behind the pollution because they wanted to force the outlanders out of the city. I nickname their leader, Solaris, Captain Pollution because of this. Dagoth Ur would fit too.

So we go to the island to find Victoria's master Kiki so she can give us strength to save the kids. She turns out to be a fucking bitch who won't do it because m-muh school honour. So Victoria intends to graduate to get the HM and give it to me, and to take the badge I have to do her request to find one of her students a fire trainer called Cal, which Victoria seems to have a crush on. Kiki is revealed to have some incurable disease that causes her to collapse in front of everyone when I beat her. In the meantime we notice Cain is missing, and it turns out he was captured by Meteors, who are preparing an attack on the island. Meteor Admin Taka doesn't seem to enthusiastic.
We find out he's Captain Pollution's son, and we fight our first superboss, which I defeat using a level 1 sturdy Magnemite.

Despite being a cripple at this point Kiki comes and promptly gets decapitated, the second violent death. Victoria's crush is a traitor. Because she died her badge is useless so I need to beat Cain's sister for the badge needed to use strength. His house is located in a weird as fuck place alled the wasteland. We meet his sister Aya and some rock type guy called Hardy. Turns out Cain was supposed to be the gym leader but ran away from home.

Turns out Team Meteor really, really wants the jewelry of these girls for some reason. We save them and they bring us to their home outside the city. Spirit girl fell sick the moment she lost her jewelry and we have to get medicine for her from a nearby town. For some reason, entire buildings are teleporting around. We run into the ice gym leader and her son Bennett. A creepy guy called El introduces himself as an Arceus cultists and is very interested in her adopted daughter Luna, claiming her to be his daughter and somehow has the power to offer Bennett E4 membership if he helps him.

We head back and we meet another of their sisters, Saphira, a dragon gym leader. Dr Electrorape and friends are out for us. We repel them and invade their nearby base to get back some of the kids they managed to get. This is the first we see of Lin, the true leader or Team Meteor, which terrifies the admins so much they ask us to pretend to be a grunt so they don't get fucked up for letting their base be invaded. With the help of a giant giga steelix we make it out and challenge one of the orphans for the normal type badge.

Because of how obsessed Team Meteor is with stealing the jewelry of some girls, it's decided it's safer for us to hold some of them. We're told to head notth to the cities where the Belrose sisters (Charlotte, Laura, Saphira) own gyms. 12 hours into the game, we make it to Route...1. We come across a castle where the luckiest man in the universe, Radomus, lives. Not only does he own a castle and is a gym leader, he has a talking slut Gardevoir and inexplicably attracted a cosplaying qt to live with him. A few moments later his Gardevoir is seemingly kidnapped and we're told to head back into the city, where a strange shrine is deep underground. We run into Adrienn, who claims to have been there for just an hour. We get the educational dialogue in >>30769390.
His Gardevoir didn't like fucking him after all, or so it seems, but i turns out to have been a ditto. He has his ditto use the latent power of the area to transform into an arceus we have to fight. After that, the real Gardevoir appears, knocks him out and we leave. There is a piece of unsettling dialogue that may be coming from the infant Arceus imprisoned in the shrine.

With that settled, we head back to his castle and find him ERPing with his Gardevoir. Also he has somehow brainwashed the Arceus cultist earlier into becoming his servant, which is unsettling. We beat him and the cosplayer turns out to be a gym leader too, but then Meteors suddenly invade his castle. Since we're worn out from the fight and have had no chance to heal, Cain decides to be the best character in the game and sacrfices himself for us to get out safely. RIP in peace. Luna, the dark leader, is captured.
Radomus has to go into hiding for some reason but knows that Luna has been taken to a secret criminal hideout. We meet Bennett, who has joined up with the Arceus cultist, and has no problems with imprisoning us or brainwashing Luna. The Gardevoir gets us all out , and it turns out Bennett has been jacking off to Luna in his room constantly or something. Luna tells us to find her gym in some valley she gives us the key to.

However, Bennett has stalked us. He tries to get it on with Luna but is shut down because he's a creepy autist. Then he tries to mug us for the key to get in her room and rape her, and when that fails he goes off muttering to himself darkly. I'm going to call him bug rapist from now on.
We get some of the cringiest fucking dialogue in the game, and considering everything else, this is truly an accomplishment.
Then we head north with Cain to a town where everyone seems to be asleep for some reason. Before we fall asleep ourselves, we are thrown into the safety of the next town by this nice lady, as shown in >>30769392

We end up in a circus and head west to find the lesbian luv shack, where Amaria the water gym leader and Titania the steel gym leader live. We're given a pass to battle one of the gym leaders in the circus. Then we go back to their hosue to get the HM and accidentally trigger yet another suicide attempt. Titania jumps down to save her, but we'll need to rescue them both later.
We continue heading up the mountain, joining up with Aya, Cain's sister and find yet another Meteor base. There is the same pair of grunts we've been fighting from the beginning, now promoted to higher ranks. Aster and Eclipse.
Eclipse, the girl, proceeds to shut off the PULSE because she's suddenly having doubts about being in a violent terrorist cell. Apparently the attack is currently on her hometown. Team Meteor also used to be different until Lin came in.

Oh, but her superior was watching, and decides to punish desertion with a soul burning. Seems reasonable. Aya manages to save us the same thing, but gets captured.
A giant barrier is blocking half of this city, Calcenon. Oh, and Fern has joined Team Meteor. They ask us for the jewelry again, but we tell them to fuck off. Because we need to reach another city and the only way through the mountain due to a giant iceberg is diving through the ponds, we have to fight Charlotte, who is somehow the fire gym leader.
Dr Electrorape may have been right to keep them imprisoned.
We get the badge and HM, fight the next PULSE, and make it to Ametrine City.

Okay, the story line is inexcusable, but the gameplay is a really good challenge. You have to keep remaking and rebalancing your team, and finding Pokémon and moves to properly handle the field effects. Considering everything but the plot, this might be my favorite fan game.

Reborn would be unironically good if they just had a decent writer to tell them what was retarded and should not have been in the game. I don't think honouring your dead friends by making them game characters is exactly a good decision.

Our true objective is Ametrine city because we want to rescue Heather and stop the sleep signal in that town. here we find the Heather has hooked herself up with some sugar daddy but is secretly distiburing food to the starving people, because her sugar daddy is a meteor agent. We're with Shelly, the bug gym leader and supposedly Bugsy's (the Johto gym leader) sister he 'never mentions'. I forgot to cap the battle we had with her much earlier, after Corey's suicide. We also find a house xplaning the origins of ZEL, and apparently it's a fusion of a sick girl, her scientist sister and a meteor agent into the meteor agent's body.
We meet the fuckface from the volcano again, Cal, and he's here to help us. We manage to break Heather out and repel the meteor invasion. However, there is no sleep signal coming from here. Cal reveals that fucking Terra, the lel so randum wacky xD gurl, is a Meteor agent and likely lied about where the sleep signal came from.
We confront her, and she...
She escapes by uploaded herself into her computer.

We enter her computer and found ourselves in a replica of gen 1, which we dig through to find and beat her. Since she's somehow a gym leader, she gives us a badge for waterfall. We can use it to descend down and rescue the suicide lesbians.
Meanwhile Titania has been murdering grunts in cold blood, using her.. Aegislash as a sword and shield. We run into Taka again and he calls her out for the edgelord she is.
