This is pretty good. I'm an amateur myself, but I find my painting/coloring/rendering skills to be getting better as I work on human skin. Human skin has a lot of depth and color to it, with shadows and such playing with the colors in it to the extreme.

Some things that might help out just to start:
Don't shade with black or greyscale. Use cooler colors for shadows and warmer colors for highlights, unless the lighting is a certain intense hue.

Don't be afraid of contrast.

Take your time.

Have a light source. Doodling a temporary "sun" in a corner can help you remember where light is coming from. Look at references if you're uncertain.
