I've been preparing LL for an AO3 presentation: A few typo/grammar fixes, plus minor clarifications (and maybe tiny retcons? ^_^;;) along the way to bring it up to my current quality standards.

After that, it's back to my next story which has been tying itself into knots as soon as I quit pulling it straight. I wanted a simple, straight up trainers-journeying fic with a little doggo-snek (decided before it became meme) fun, and now it's halfway to becoming a paranormal exploration (sorta). Hope y'all like abstract dream sequences like I had in LL, because I'm doing that sort of shit again. And psychics and electrified sheep, because I'm doing that sort of shit again, too.

South of 1M career words in Pokemon fics and already I write like I'm out of ideas.

It's really the way the normal animations of it show off how its head connects with the rest of it that does it no favors, and the loss of its "dress." The model tends to make it look rather small too due to display limits and emphasize how tiny its head now looks.

If I were writing Type: Null in a major role, I would probably try to emphasize some consequences of its strange origins. Being a chimera and being made in a lab and raised as a weapon would lead to some interesting personality traits. The dex also notes that the control helmet is needed to prevent it from going on a rampage, so there's probably something to work with on that front.

My schedule doesn't change a bit with the upandcoming events, I guess, and that's not a good or a bad thing, I guess.

At least I feel more like in the mood for things. And the season allows me to take naps, which are a curious re-energizer. I can't stop recommending them, with moderation.

Speaking of, I'm starting to outline the ideas I have for this Valentine's story (forever alone, so I have the time to write one).
Since I am I, it's going to be a story about Nidos, and one of the angles I'm leaning towards for the story is to show how the kits learn from their father the tricks to charm the ladies. Hopefully without silly ideas about ramming automatic doors.

I liked it, but here's two things:

I love when Pokémon act independently. When they have their own tastes and desires and do things on their own to try and reach them. It really makes you feel closer to them, and it's a good and easy way to add characterization for the Trainer by showing how they respond. I really did like how they worked together to get the present.

I still can't get over the death thing in a Nuzlocke. I can see it in a story taking place in a war torn region, but it just doesn't fit, at least in my head, to take place in a place with a League and organized rules.

But I too get nervous while preparing to post a story or a part of one (as I am right now), and I always end up delaying its publication by rereading the whole thing over and over and trying to weed out typos or even bigger flaws such as issues with the plot itself. I always feel like I waste too much time doing that, but I still find it hard to force myself to bite the proverbial bullet and get my story out into the open.


On an unrelated note, I figure I'll take this chance to respond to the TOTT without making a second post: I do indeed have more free time now that finals are done, but I overestimated how much motivation that free time would give me for writing. I thought I'd get right to work, but I ended up just spending all weekend wasting time and relaxing, doing nothing productive except beating the postgame of Sun. And then the last two days were largely taken up with errands and the like. Fortunately, I've started to get back into gear by now and I think I'll actually be able to become more productive over the next couple weeks.

Because action scenes are literally effort and resource-intensive to draw. There's a reason why 40% of TTGL's budget got sunk into the last 5 episodes that were almost entirely action scenes.

It's been 3 hours and I've manage to write 3 paragraphs. The text isn't the problem, but trying to fold it all into a story that's worthwhile takes far more concentration than I can usually handle. Been thinking up a storm about my story. Gonna try to get some work on it tonight, but now I realize that I have a big problem. I don't have a name for the story. Or Hoopa Man, but that one I've known about since the beginning.

For everyone unaware of my plan and don't want to see my giant screenshot of 4chan posts, the story is about Zinnia and Steven traveling the world together, after Zinnia is nearly killed by a man in a Hoopa getup, who also drops a strange stone that intrigues Steven, because it's unlike anything on earth. The two go to Johto, Sinnoh, Unova, and even Orre, and meet up with characters like Cynthia, Lance and Clair. It's a comedy/drama sort of thing and a big aspect of the fic is going to be Trust. No fan characters in it, unless you wanna decide to count things like a specific Golurk in Dragonspiral Tower a fan character. Even Hoopa Man is a canon character, just different because Parallel Universes.

I've always been terrible at naming things. My only other two fanfics aren't really all that well named. Tails and Luigi's Mansion, and Ben 10 Omniverse Greengate. You probably don't wanna read either one form the name alone (And on the latter's case, I can't blame you for not. Pretty bad. But, hey, first fanfics. You learn from them). So, having a name for this story would be pretty darn cool.

And Hoopa Man. I might be able to make a couple of work arounds for him when it comes to narration, but having something other then "the Hoopa Man" for dialogue would be great.

See, what happened was: I couldn't think of a name for a while, but I was playing some Kirby at the time and I realized Ledyba has the vaguest of resemblances to Taranza (mainly just the six white hands), so I just gave him that name as a placeholder. OR of that story. I like, very much. Reread this chapter three times in total to fully indulge in the story. The description of the caves and tunnels inside the hive are pretty good, if a bit confusing because of how many passageways the ribombee took to reach the queen.
Dialogue/interaction-wise it is pretty spot on too, with how the other bees treat him and of how his antennae reacted to the powerful honey. I honestly didn't expect the Vespiquen to react the way she did, but boy did it surpass my expectation. Although the combee are labeled with numbers instead of names, it fits the colony feeling and they still hold a good level of their own personality. Can't wait for part 2!

Reading all of this makes me want to give that crossover another try

Actually, Russia was explicitly mentioned back in Gen 1. Remember the Silph Co. employee who mentions that the company has a branch located in "Russian no-man's-land"? Unless you want to chalk that up to early-installment weirdness, which admittedly is an acceptable interpretation--although they did keep that line in the Gen 3 remakes as well.

I don't know the cause but I've seen that effect, too, with a mid chapter having as many views as its two neighbors combined.

I find that giving each chapter its own "main character" best reflected the nature of the games. Finding and catching new Pokémon is what it's all about.

Also spreading out the cast might help new readers jump into the story if they see a chapter about a Pokémon they like, though it's completely pointless on FF.net since you can't use pictures and only see chapter names once you've started reading.
