Lillie was too important of a character to Sun/Moon's plot for them to COMPLETELY ignore that story in the anime, if they were going to put her in it in the first place. If her story doesn't matter, then they could have just easily replaced her with a Chicken-chan in the anime, like they did with previous seasons and the default female character option.
