Subtitles are meant to present the given movie, tv show, anime or whatever to the viewer in the best way possible. They serve no purpose other than to make you understand everything.

To that length and considering that I'm sure 99.99% of all people who watch English subs of pokémon also play the games in English and grew up with it in English, it should use the English names. Because it's more accessible, makes more sense and is easier to understand.

It's still just as accurate, because they're names. There is nothing to translate, as you said.

If we're going to talk common sense, then you might want to look at the fact that out of the tons and tons and tons of Pokemon subs over the years, the only time anyone used dub names was for Origins, a short TV movie that primarily attracted interest from people that didn't watch the anime series and make the connection that Japanese names are what people that watch the subs actually want.

PM subs are too literal. There is some skill in subbing something so it sounds "natural" in the language you sub to. I'm not saying to change the meaning and all, it's a fine line and easy to overshoot, but still.
