That was more of an observation than a trend.

The real "trend" was Ash having at least one cute Pokemon that doesn't evolve because its evolutions are less cute and thus less marketable. The cutest thing Ash had was usually his Water-type.

Froakie was never cute to begin with, so they didn't have to worry about that.
