I'm talking for about the Pokémon world, were mantlets are everywhere and even IRL, the average height for men is still 5'10". Main reason the two are so tall though is because they're of glorious Western European descent.

The reason probably has to do with where the games take place.

Unova = North America
Kalos = Paris

The other regions are all in Japan.
White people are, on average, taller than East Asians.

It also seems like the protagonists have been steadily increasing in age as well, hence the increase in height. I agree with the Anon above. 15-18 seems like the perfect age for the PC for these games, which is right where Hilda/Hilbert, Rosa/Nate, and Serena/Calem seem to be sitting.
It's a nice compromise between small child and full on adult.
