Reminder that if this game flops, Charizard or Lucario will be the new mascot.
"Ishihara had previously mentioned the possibility of this project adversely affecting Pikachu’s popularity, which is why it’s quite the big deal. The reason for this is because for the first time in 17 years, Pikachu will be speaking.
Not only will he simply be speaking, but Pikachu, who has been considered the cute and innocent Pokémon, will also have lines that are more suited for an adult, which makes sense considering he’ll be your senior detective partner.
The decision to have a talking Pikachu was one that Ishihara and the other staff members spent a long time in deciding, as they felt that it would be impossible at first, and also a risky proposal."
Pikachu has had no character development since the middle of Gen 2 and if not for the autistic japanese children with ADHD they'd have written it out a long time ago.
It doesn't help that they've been consistently drawing it worse and worse ever since
>Charizard or Lucario
>implying it won't be both
Doubt they'll dump Pikachu or abandon a "cute" mascot altogether but if they ever did, they're going to make a rivalry out of the 2 "cool" mons if it happens. Not to mention orange and blue.
You knew it reason they choose Pikachu as a mascot (instead of Clefairy) is because it fulfilled both "cute" aspect and "cool" aspect right?
Lucario and Charizard only have "cool" aspect.
>Lucha Libre Pikachu
>Spiky-eared baby Pikachu
>Fat, ignored Pikachu
>Ph. D Pikachu
>Rock Star Pikachu
>Pop Star Pikachu
>Not only will he simply be speaking, but Pikachu, who has been considered the cute and innocent Pokémon, will also have lines that are more suited for an adult, which makes sense considering he’ll be your senior detective partner.
No way it will flop, since even someone like me that never liked pikachu is now interested in this game.
I hope it is not digital only. In that case it will flop hard and I won't buy it.
Ishihara said that he was afraid that something like a talking Pikachu with a more adult tone and a "Blue" Pikachu (Pikablu, not Marill) will hurt this game and possibly Pikachu's popularity, which was the reason why this game was created.
He said it three years ago when the documental revealed this game's existence.
I dunno, the fact that they showed up another classic cute Pikachu in the same trailer means that they are really trying to really set that this Pikachu is different (instead of just expecting the populace to understand), so that if it fails they can distance it from normal mascot Pikachu easily. At least that's what it seems to me.
Then I hope it flops. I don't dislike Pikachu or anything, but I feel it's become overrated and overdone over the last 20 years. I wouldn't mind a new mascot to make things seem fresh. However, fuck Lucario, which literally is an overrated peice of shit.
They should give Clefable or Poliwhirl the chance to become the new mascot like they planned to do in the late 90s. Or hey, fucking Zygarde Core.
I don't understand what Ishihara is smoking.
Pikachu is going for Mario levels, it has been abused in marketing to hell and back. One more or one less shit product starring Pikachu won't make a difference.
The anime is what made Pikachit popular on the first place. If they hadn't decided that Ash should get a different starter first and the rest later, Pika wouldn't have ever become as polular. They could've even given Ash a different mon or let Pikachu evolve, and they would've likely become the mascot.
Pikachu has starred in shitty games before, and they didn't hurt its popularity.
>It doesn't help that they've been consistently drawing it worse and worse ever since
wait, I thought fatchu>slimchu was just a silly vp meme
there are peoplae that unironically think this?
>wait, I thought fatchu>slimchu was just a silly vp meme
If you don't see a difference between gen I Pikachu and the current one in terms of body shape you need to get your eyes checked.
I'd like a Meowth detective.
He can be crooked.
You mean we might see a mascot revision if the game does well, not if it flops. If it flops, everyone forgets about deep-voiced Pikachu and life goes in. If it does very well, you've now replaced adorable, own-name-saying Pikachu with this new, hardboiled detective.
Also, why the fuck would they choose Lucario? Replace one gruff, talking Pokemon with another? You're being mental. A cute Pokemon is needed to appeal to that demographic.
I swear, you shitposters don't even think.
It's funny because if Clefairy had been chosen as the mascot all those years ago you'd be saying the same thing.
Because you're a hipster contrarian faggot whose only opinions are "popular = bad", is what I'm saying.
Pikachu is always going to be the mascot no matter what.
nigga are you serious? Pokemonfags are so weird. You think fans of Mario ever say "man I really wish TOAD would be the mascot one of these days!"
Well, he may be an idiot, but he's right in the sense that Pikachu isn't a main character in every main series game barring Yellow. Mario is the MC in practically every main series Mario game.
Slap Pikachu's face on anything and it's guaranteed to sell.
They'll just switch to a new cute pokemon to be the center of attention.
Plus it could mean Ash's pikachu can FINALLY become a Raichu.
Eevee seems like the most logical choice: It pretty much embodies everything pokemon is about.
Bring back Poliwhirl
Lucario, Eevee and Slowpoke are pretty damn popular. Ditto is more of an easter egg or so.
Goomy is the only questionable one since it's short rise to fame was quite short lived to say the least.
Mareep was my biggest dissapointment, when I first played gen 2 as a kid. I hoped it would evolve into some kind of ram. I´m okay now with ampharos, but as a kid, it was the biggest let down.
Eh, close enough, from the player's point of view it's still Pokémon talking.
Now, if this game was voice acted I could see the difference, but we know nothing about the game at all and don't even know if it's still in development.
That's Salaryman Pikachu. The story behind it is that one day Pikachu couldn't get his owner to wake up for work, so he decided to fill in for the day. The plush came with its own business card.
>check the rest of /vp/
>it's not cancelled
Fuck, I should've looked first. This game's going to be a trainwreck.
Assuming the shit about the villain being a blue Pikachu is also true, I really have low expectations for this game, especially since they're holding the game hostage with a "if it does poorly we're going to shove Lucario down your thread EVEN MORE!"
OP said the staff is aware that it could tank Pikachu's popularity. If it does then you know they'll try to push Lucario, who've they've already pushed so far that people call him the "second mascot." If Pikachu dies they're sure to put him in that spot.
Can you tell any difference between these two?
Nothing will happen. This is actually a good way to take a risk with Pikachu. Remember that adults/late teens play Pokemon more than children do, and this could be a good way to attract a more mature audience to the game. At worst, the game flops and it gets swept under the rug. I'm all for it.
