I've put too much effort into this world already to start in a different one.

Would we be good pokemon trainers? Throughout the games it's implied not many can just get a Pokemon to listen and react so seamlessly, then imagine mananging 6 or more, and then remember that there are different types with different needs and quirks. Not wonder trainers tend to stick to a certain amount with similarly themed pokemon. You're playing someone who is almost gifted because they're a character seperate from you at the end of the day. But if you were to wake up on Poke Earth tomorrow would you be as skilled?

It could be a sort of gameplay and lore separation thing. Just like in Elder Scrolls the cities and locations in lore are said to be bigger, even the devs say this, but you're given a condensed version with all the important bits. It might be a similar case with only parts relevant to the game (pokemon) appearing to the player character and the player. I can't prove that of course, but I do know regular animals are a thing in pokemon. From Gen 1 dex entries that still aren't retconned, to dialogue that mentions them. Yet we never see any out in the wild, and that's because it's not relevant to the game. That's the only thing supporting my hypothesis.
