I loved it, but was very disappointed that male options were so limited.

Character creation is literally my all-time favorite feature in Pokemon. I've been eagerly awaiting another Kalos game announcement ever since ORAS came out. I know I'm not the only one, too.

Nearly nobody hates it. Having a blank slate rpg protagonist without customization is beyond stupid.
Quite some people wish they did more with it, but still greatly enjoy the concept.
Some find it boring/uninteresting, but I don't think they directly hate it.

If they don't plan to improve upon it I'd rather they remove it but in exchange they'd have to use better all around visual effects, character portraits, cutscenes, and better story telling to justify it. If choice is singular than single player basically needs a big overhaul to make up for it. In the same vein if character customization becomes a bigger and better feature than it was in gen 6 they need to really ramp up the multiplayer experience.

As much as I love all the different ways to customize Serena (god damn she's just too cute!), it's just my nature to always choose to be the male character if given the choice in these kind of games. Probably because if I'm going to self-insert, I feel it should be my own gender. But I make up for it by mainly playing female characters in fighting games.

And the fact that Serena gets a personality by being your rival (I know, it's barely one but still). I felt bad every time I beat her, while I'd feel nothing if I was beating Calem.

And I was pretty satisfied with how my guy looked at the end though honestly.
