Being the idiot and/or lazy child I was when I got Yellow. I didn't even inch toward getting a Mankey (Don't think I even bothered thinking of the idea.) and just grinded my Pikachu's level up enough that it could beat threw Brock's team. Shit took a while before succeeding, especially since Electric moves were out the question.

No, it wasn't. Pokémon Blue was the third version to Red and Green. Since actually releasing Red and Green out of Japan when Blue existed was dumb and might have made them gain LESS money, the readapted Blue for the international release to be Red and Blue. Then, in Japan, they made Pokémon Pikachu Edition, which was supposed to be similar to the anime (see Jessy and James, for example), and they named it Pokémon Yellow outside of Japan. It's not the third version, it's a special version.

Yes, but in this case it was the fourth version, not the third. Jap Blue changed wild distribution around, fixed glitches, and made a new set of Pokémon sprites, and that was the version they localized as US Red and Blue (but with Red and Green's wild distribution). Yellow is our third because of that.
