Note that in the anime it can't battle in its Core form. The only times it's battled, it had to go to 10%.

Until the most recent episode, they just assumed it was an undiscovered Pokemon and kept it around with them, naming it "Puni-chan/Squishy."

But in the most recent episode, prior to the New Years Special, they took it back to Terminus Cave, and discovered that it could transform into Zygarde 10%, where it escaped from them as well as Team Flare.
