No, the anime confirmed you need a trainer. Those mega segments were all Alain fighting some other trainer, they just didn't show them.
That doesn't really prove anything.
It's just a reference to the anime, but it doesn't mean the anime is actually canon.
Which, it isn't, as far as the games go. The anime has its own canon.
>mfw these children are too young to remember
It's okay, junior, no need to be so flustered. Nobody blames you for when you were born.
You could stand to tone down the epic memeing, though. I know it's popular with your generation but it makes older folks cringe.
and you could tone down the epic fedora tipping manchild
Of course the anime is canon! That's why you can "break" Trick Room with Bug moves, since it's a Psychic type move! That's why using Thunder on your Swellow in sinless to get Thunder Armor is a totally viable strategy!
You're right, I'm sure "real" Pokemon battles would involve wild Pokemon politely taking turns with the trainer, floating HP bars magically materializing, Bonemerang doing literally nothing to Flying Pokemon, and any two people with Pokemon being literally forced to battle if they see each other. The anime -and literally every other adaptation, for that matter- is ridiculous for not interpreting every aspect of the games entirely literally.
The games have always been a terrible representation of how Pokemon battling would be like irl. Things like the turn based nonsense and the strict implementation of type match ups leading to shit like ground moves such as Bone Rush, Mud Bomb and Boomerang not being able to damage to flying types, whilst throwing rocks at them does cause damage, makes no sense.
The anime for all it's faults at least shines battles in a more realistic light.
Yes, the new one has a female voice.
