There were originally only meant to be 2 gens hench why Gold & Silver covers both Johto & Kanto, culminating in the ultimate final battle between Ethan & Red.

This is when the series ended, the rest is just filth.

Johto's a bit empty, and Kanto's emptier than it was in Gen I, but just having two whole regions in one game I think makes up for it. Johto has some cool Pokémon, some of the best music in the series, the only thing that really drags it down is the awful level curve.

Both regions are empty as shit, the new Pokemon are literally gen 1 rejects and almost all poorly designed shitmons, and even if you WANTED to use them they're spread out so poorly you'll wind up running into mostly the original 151 anyway. The level curve is terrible, the overworld is horribly laid out with far too many HMs required to get anything done, the story is the worst in a franchise of games with terrible stories, and the music, while probably the high point, is mediocre to good at its best points.

They're just not very good games. Not to mention that Kris is worst girl.

But they DID remake the generic shitmon. Hoothoot is Pidget, Sentret is Rattata. Which is all the more egregious considering how few Pokemon they actually added.
