most pokemon are garbage in the format. Pachy was just an electric type amoonguss with some other tricks like super fang, and redirection that ignored safety goggles and affected grass types. also, everyone losing their shit over this is probably ignorant of the fact that Ray used Escavalier in 2011 to win it, another mon with close to zero usage like pachy. it makes sense coming from /vp/ though.

Pachirisu has access to a few moves, namely Follow Me, Super Fang, and Nuzzle. Follow Me redirects all of the opponent's attacks towards Pachi, ensuring that his partner can survive. Super Fang halves the HP of the foe, and Nuzzle is a move with 20 BP and is guaranteed to paralyze.

One of the most common tactics in VGC is to use Rage Powder to direct all attacks to the user. Amoonguss is the best mon for this since it's pretty bulky, but everyone prepares for Rage Powder so he used Follow Me which is the same thing but nothing is immune to it. However, the only VGC-legal mon that can use it was Pachirisu, and it had some other decent niches besides being a Follow Me user like Nuzzle, Volt Absorb, and Super Fang.

Anyway OP is retarded and probably a troll. One niche Pokemon making it on the champ's team doesn't prove anything considering the rest of his team were mons common to VGC. By OP's logic Smogon rules aren't over-centralizing because someone topped the OU ladder with Flareon recently.

Pachi has Follow Me, that's a pretty big deal. Don't pretend it being successful means anything can be successful, cause Pachi is actually useful.

No, not really. There's 134 pokemon that are ranked on the OU viability rankings, meaning they're "officially" considered viable in OU, and then of course there's stuff that has a niche but is just too incredibly niche or situational to warrant a ranking but can still work on select teams.

And then there's just wizards who top the ladder with junk like Mightyena and Flareon.

Not good enough. OU is not smog's only format. You also got UU, RU and NU where stuff that would be niche/awful in VGC or OU are top fucking dogs there.

And then Other Metas. Like Samurott is THE BEST pokemon in PU. You'll never see that garbage in doubles. Kingdra was so fucking insane in Mediocre Mons it had to be b&.

Or if you don't like XY that much, every past gen is still there. Can't say that about gen4 and 5 wifi.

So yeah if you take every meta that smogon supports, you get a number of good (not niche, straight up excellent) pokemon that hopelessly dwarfs and doubles meta.

Doubles is very different from singles, you realize. A lot of pokemon who don't do that well in singles are able to support their teammates really well in doubles. It's why tiering is basically impossible, since you have to account for combinations of pokemon instead of individuals

Smogon's singles meta isn't even that overcentralized. Although there are some choices more popular than others, the usage manages to stay around or below 20%, and there's still maybe 100 choices considered 'viable'

Deo-D didn't even break 7% usage when Deosharp was at its peak. There's no fucking "standard" team in singles, there never has been, and there's a huge amount of diversity.

Genies are just good pokemon (perhaps too good,) not a team archetype. They shat up VGC 2013 too, you know. And their usage in singles is absolutely dwarfed by Garchomp, Talonflame and Mega Mom's usage in doubles.
