Old meems edition
Note: Torrent it. The developer, Squad, is incompetent, extremely mismanaged, and very resistant to actually implementing feedback or criticism. The game is full of poor design decisions, a lack of balance and bugs, and needs a thorough optimization overhaul, something that Squad excels at procrastinating about. If you're reading this, it's probably too late and you've already bought it, but don't call it a grave.
Understand that we here at /kspg/ don't hate KSP. We've simply grown bitter over the direction (or lack thereof,) that Squad has taken it in. That's why we yell at Squad when they fuck up. Because we care about the game, and want it to improve.

Prepare your fragile mind for this concepts: the mamount of books readead by a superior is not listable, it is too much. I know that for a peasant reading 10 books is an achievement.
And in spite of what you may believe, foul language does not make literature that improves living.

>>91209645
Not when KSP was looking back at it it wasn't.
Dear mother of fuck, I just got the most amazing idea I've had in ages. I was wondering how to make a space craft that has enough fuel and power to make it to other planets, but is still sturdy enough to land on them without crashing into a million pieces. And then it hit me - I don't HAVE to. I could just make a massive space station with a shitton of fuel and kerbals that can reach other planets. You then dock dosins of little landers on it, that each hold a single kerbal, get to the planet of interest and launch the pods. Just orbit around the planet and launch a series of scientific orbital deep strikes. I shall call the maneuver Kerbahl Rehn. You don't even have to get the kerbals back, Just load up the station with enough to make them expendable.
I don't care how over the top, impractical and outright autistic it seems. I like 40k, for fucks' sake. Eventually I'm doing this. Don't care if it'll probably take 50 launches just to construct the bloody thing.

holy shit did they make it easier to get to orbit now? second stage still has shitloads of fuel.
>>91210958
Yeah, I know, but I like saying "pre-pre-pre-pre-pre-alpha". As far as I'm concerned it's already a finished game that's just getting the occasional upgrade. Then again, I'm the sort of person who plays it 100% vanilla, so I am likely on the autism spectrum.

if someone was actually this close to an ion thruster IRL, what would happen to them? they'd be all good right?
also it kinda annoys me it takes 5 standard solar panels to power an ion thruster at 100% and not lose charge without too much inefficiency. but 5 is a weird number, so i ran with 8 in the end, just for redundancy.
plus not all of them receive sunlight because it's all calculated from their bases. and half the craft is in shadow.

>Alex (aLeXmOrA): Progress with the KSP Edu system. We had a meeting to discuss and clarify doubts about the system and it’s final functionality. We’re now testing some features of the KSP Edu version of the game.
>Ted (Ted): Over the past week I’ve been busy with the QA Team testing some new additions to Tweakables and some excellent mini-features from Harv. We’ve also been testing out the Develop Branch as everything merges together, to ensure that it all plays nicely and we don’t get any issues from new features combating each other. So far, so good! Lastly, A few of us in the QA Team have been helping test out the Kerbal Edu feature that Alex and Marco have been working on.
>Alex (aLeXmOrA): Almost done with the KerbalEdu system in KSP website. There were some little issues that I have checked and fixed, but it’s going pretty good so far.
>Marco (Samsonart): We made the last few tweaks to the client part of the Edu system.

Yes, because features that could, by some, be considered to be necessary for gameplay, are the same as the ability to write infodumps with a block, or place blocks to mark a boundary for your class.

Regardless of purchase date, your purchase of KSP does not entitle you to the following:
Other "Kerbal" titles, such as sequels, prequels or any other works based on KSP or any subset of the KSP IP, even those that integrate with the original KSP (but do not require it).
>>91229484
Seeing as they're Mexicans, couldn't someone in Russia, China or Eatern Europe just fix some of the major bugs and then upload the game and claim it's all just a mod.
It's not like Squad have the funds for a cross country law suit.
>>91229217
unity 5 will have jack-fucking shit effect on KSP.
For example, it would change how a built-in unity random number generator calculates a random number. Squads code simply asks for a random number, then no matter how that random number was calculated, it then proceeds to shit itself as usual for being a broken, unoptimised mess that would embarass even a toddler.
That, and the fact that they have no idea how to use the resources they are given (hence the minimal GPU usage, shittastic memory managment, and impressive CPU load), means that even if unity came witha buil-in n-body physics calculator, Squad would use it to display backround images by having the pixels weigthed (real time) to form the desired images, with them constanly adjusting to a flickering lightsource.
>>91230046
>It's not like Squad have the funds

Bring periapsis to roughly 20k, no lower than 17k because of circularisation. Circularise and possibly bring it to 15/15k.
Find a nice spot upcoming, make sure you're on surface mode and kill velocity from a horizontal angle to make it so you're slowly moving sideways. Once you're down to 5k, then begin to burn vertical speed off.

Ignore those comments, they're from people who don't understand how purchasing anything works.
Those complaining that Edu is getting features requested for stock for years now (dV readout for example) are absolutely justified.
>>91237832
We see here justified criticisms being ignored in favour of a strawman that one or two people may have raised.
The issue we have is that you've contracted out to people who actually know what the hell they're doing, and they're making you look like idiots as a result. You should resign your position and hand over development to them at once.
>>91237868
The whole 15k horizontal speed reduction was to bring your sideways motion to zero so you could purely focus on the last 5k making sure you don't go higher than 30m/s until 1k away from the terrain, at which point you make sure its no faster than 10m/s and at 200m it should be 5m/s

No money exchanged hands til they sold the first copy of it and we got our part for licensing. It's the same deal they have with Minecraft.
Mind you, they made some really, really dope stuff.

It's just a fucking figure of speech you cunt. NO-ONE CARES ABOUT THE FINANCIAL ASPECTS OF THE DEVELOPMENT. THE PROBLEM IS THAT THEY MAKE YOUR "DEVELOPERS" LOOK LIKE A LOAD OF CHILDREN.
>>91237832
>regarding the money people paid for Kerbal being used to make EDU.
This is the only part I can comment on with the data I have, so I'll offer an answer to this - the KSP purchases are used by Squad (in theory,) to pay the development team. Squad dev-team members worked on (at least,) QA and testing for KerbalEDU, and so that money was spent on KerbalEDU development.

I understand the work was done by a third party, and i understand only a couple members from squad gave tech support and bugfixing to kerbalEDU
it doesn't change the fact these are features KSP needs, they are features that have been asked for, and in the case of editable scenarios, they have been specifically asked for and shot down by...YOU
I don't expect a free version of KerbalEDU, but i would expect some of that functionality to make it into stock KSP.
otherwise, how is this any different from DLC fundementally?

We totally agree that some of the functionality might have a place in the stock version. I'm glad that we understand that our coding involvement was minimal.
It makes me worry about the perception of it though. Are we being immoral when Alex helps the marketing side of Squad set up a website because he knows the hosting company?
>>91238679
If that's the core then we agree on it.
>>91238451
That's irrelevant.
>"Early access, alphafunding, or paid-alpha is a funding model in the video game industry by which consumers can pay for a game in the early stages of development and obtain access to playable but unfinished versions of the game, while the developer is able to use those funds to continue work on the game."
>A consumer would assume that their money is going towards the game that's in early access to support it's development, not the development of other products. If KSP was no longer in Early Access, this wouldn't be a concern, but since it is, that raises some questions.

>>91238764
>Are we being immoral when Alex helps the marketing side of Squad set up a website because he knows the hosting company?
No, but there are many who don't realise how Squad is structured.
Also putting that shit in the dev notes probably doesn't help, but I suppose if there wasn't people would ask what they were doing.
It just makes me suspect the the "dope stuff" in EDU is _never_ going to be in vanilla _because_ it's in EDU.
I mean why buy EDU if stock has all the same or most of the same features?
>>91238910
Why do people not realise how money works? You can't just magically turn money into videogames, and we sure as hell know Squads stance on actually spending their "hard" earned shekels. Until very recently they've been incredibly reluctant to actually (publically) invest directly in KSP with contracting modders.
>>91238985
I'm sure EDU has at least some features that don't really belong in stock
Like the force vectors, I don't think anyone really needs those
>>91238764
>Are we being immoral when Alex helps the marketing side of Squad set up a website because he knows the hosting company?
No, because that's Squad-related work, and would be considered a normal operating cost, not pouring money/manhours into a different product.
I haven't been watching the R9 attempts, I'll be watching this one. It's gonna go up tomorrow.
>>91239094

>>91238764
Max you are seriously stupid. This is the third time you've deflected the point, which is that the people who wrote the EDU version are streets ahead of whatever clowns you have working on the main version.
>I'm glad that we understand that our coding involvement was minimal.
Why? That just makes Squad look more incompetent.
>>91238764
Can I stop you right there, the "pretty dope stuff" in EDU had NO PLACE in KSP as it's just more "content" in a game that needs bug fixes and not content.
We have mods for content, worry about fixing the multitude of bugs the game has, worry about fixing/removing x64, worry about making the game use less memory, worry about getting the game to work with Unity 5, worry about making the game stable.
Users don't want more content, we want a game that doesn't crash every 5 minutes. People use mods because the stock game is rather boring and needs more content, however we'd all prefer a game that's actually stable rather than a game that has content. You can work on the content when you have a game that works.
it's taken you just under 4 years to get out of the alpha stage, you've got a bug list with 600+ bugs of which only 8 have been fixed. Maybe start working on that and you wouldn't have people telling you that you're a cunt.

Squad licensed them to sell a copy of KSP with their own modifications in return for royalties? Sounds like a poor deal for Squad when the per-unit pricing is so similar. Do they have a good distribution network? Do they retain ownership of their modifications?
Still, it's nothing Jim couldn't put together in an update cycle or two.

>>91238764
>It makes me worry about the perception of it though. Are we being immoral when Alex helps the marketing side of Squad set up a website because he knows the hosting company?
well yes and no
Personally i dont have a problem with kerbalEDU existing, and i understand why it needs to be in that format to sell licenses to schools etc.
Squad supplying QA time and tech support to kerbalEDU falls into the same area, i understand why squad put some manhours into it.
but if there is dope shit going on, and it is in KSP, I want it.
especially considering these are things that have been asked for a buttload of times.
I think it's immoral squad have this strange relationship with what is essentially a mod, and are selling it separately, no matter who coded it.
i find it strange more than anything really.
>>91239301
>it's taken you just under 4 years to get out of the alpha stage
But they are still adding features, as far as i know, that still is alpha, what ever Max wants to call it
>>91239075
Which is why that thing you're commenting on is referring to paying wages, and why it's questionable for Squad to be paying wages to their developers for them to work on a totally different piece of software. Especially when their game was still in alpha.

Bullshit, there are major bugs that have been around for 2 years that you haven't touched. Go look at your buglist right now and tell me how many bugs are older than 6 months? You'll find that it's most of them. Stop giving us "updates" with shitty features like "bases" or XP for Kerbals and just sit down and go through the buglist.
Your lemmings on the forum are more than happy to play the game as it is, the Steam reviews keeps people buying the game; you don't need more content you just need to fix the game.
Just do what you always do and buy the tops mods for your content, but at least fix the game. All 0.90 did was add more bugs to your workload. At some point, the brown-noses on the forum and going to realise we are right and that the game is broken. You should try to fix it before they turn on you and you're game slips into oblivion.

>>91242489
Procedural doesn't mean adjustable, nor does it mean random. All the planets in the game are procedural: They don't exist as models, they're generated in-game using code procedures. It's one of the reasons it took so long for modders to work out how to change them. In this case, they use libnoise and their own custom layers on top of it. Pic related, it's the default libnoise planet. It was used (flipped horizontally) as a placeholder for early KSP. Fans grew attached to it, naming the continents and such, so it has had modifications added to it rather than being outright replaced.

>>91244509
Honestly I'd like to see a system where you could choose what parts to unlock, rather than this booster pack type of deal.
>>91244135
HULLO!
>>91244785
You can, though? Unless you mean with science and not the part unlock costs
>>91244496
Considering pic related is the the very best one we have of it currently, I'm happy with that.
I'd like to see a career mode that allows a similar situation to occur. The lack of delta V readings means that you're going to aim for an overengineered manned lander to reach any given body for the first time, rather than a cheap one-shot probe to get first pics. Things are balanced against both probes and flybys currently.
>>91244339
>>91244581
alright I'll check out those. Thanks.
>>91242393
Because 3 types fits with all crafts and purposes and satisfies all tastes in styling.
If only there were a way to add 4 different textures to materials in a very memory friendly way.
If only there were a way to customize part length dynamically.
If only there were a way to change key characteristics like mass, impact speed, angle etc. in a context menu, so the catalog stays small.:^)
>>91244690
The first missions in career mode on hard mode are the worst. It isn't "hard". It's just tedious and repetitive.
Doing a ton of bullshit part tests just so you can afford to upgrade your piece of shit launch pad to hold more than 18 tons isn't fun, it's just a grind.
T-10 hours
>>91244665
I dont care if you personally find it challenging, git gud.
the lack of flight planning has nothing to do with the tech tree.
>>91244785
i just wanna see >aeroplanes>low atmosphere probes>high atmosphere probes>orbits with probes>manned high atmosphere flights>manned orbits>orbital docking+rendezvous >probes to moons>>manned missions to moons>probes interplanetary>>manned interplanetary>munar colonies>interplanetary space stations>interplanetary colonies
in that order
>>91244963
If you're doing a stock career mode run, you can use Science Alert or For Science! to reduce the annoyance of the science system. The former tells you when there's new science available, while the latter automatically gathers it for you. Stock forces you to randomly check in a click-heavy way while in orbit.
It is not good gameplay.
>>91245118
Yeah the part testing missions right now are just awful.
Would be interesting if perhaps you had to test fly a part succesfully to unlock it permanently, that would make more sense. Right now it's easier and cheaper to just unlock the part.
>>91245462
I also recommend getting the stage recovery mod.
>>91245462
I don't have a problem with science gathering right now. The science center gives good feedback on where you might find science, and the rest is up to your imagination.
>>91245707
You mean imagining how goo doing a little dance on an asteroid teaches me to build fuel pumps?
>>91245471
The randomness leaves them awful in terms of in-flight gameplay, and career mode itself. Testing a big booster in orbit can get you half a million funds early in the game, basically putting you back in science mode.
>>91245707
>Well my interplanetary ship has come back from a journey to Jool

He's talking about the resource, while you are talking about the shit you buy with the resource.
>>91246362
Yeah that's a possibly bad example, but what about ladders?
>>91246387
Actually, gathering science from crew reports and experiments is probably underpowered compared to the science you basically get for free out of contracts and strategies.
Guys can we please go back to ded?

Except they're not spaceplanes, they're just jets
One could say that they're specially made to be able to withstand the space environment, which would make sense, if just regular jets had no use in KSP
Which they do, because apparently data from some random point on Kerbin's surface is both not already known and is useful for spaceflight
>>91246585
This. They trained pilots to become astronauts for flight and scientists to build capable spacecraft.
They weren't two separate research paths, one depended on the other.

>>91248764
They don't even need to do that. The retarded thing is that the bug exists because of a fix for x64 that for some stupid reason is applied to EVERY build. And there's even a DLL on the forum that fixes it.
>>91248323
It's a stupid bug but there are MUCH better ways than sepatrons to work around it.

The Saturn V had a capacity of 118,000 kg. to LEO
The Falcon 9 has a capacity of 13,150 kg
and if this test is succesful the cost of launching would be reduced to at least 1/10 of what it was...
that means you could send an apollo mission for the current cost of a falcon 9 launch...
